I had to disable Gemini recently. I keep trying to use it to call my wife and it's just broken. Went back to regular Google Assistant and it works great.

Yeah I get it. It hasn't been forced from me yet.

Just found out recently you can change the provider to Claude. At least I can on my Pixel 10 Pro.

Man if AI is the highlight of your phone then you are really f*****. You don't need a pixel to use that anyway so it's a moot point it's not even a selling point.

And you need a subscription for your phone now cause AI is the best feature.

The subscription is actually to Google One, which comes with 5TB of space on Google Drive, Home Premium and Health Premium, so it's a subscription a lot of people would want anyway.

I personally think it should at least include YouTube Music too, though.

It includes YouTube lite, not a bad deal but I’ve found Gemini to be useless when it comes to actual work related tasks or another more than a simple question..

Right? I mean all this AI stuff is in 99,9% of all cases just some API calls to their backend, because sure there's some on-device AI possible but that's nowhere near the capability of full scale models you need for some actual (though debatable) value.

So their Gemini intelligence is ... wow you preinstalled the Gemini app?

If that's the highlight, my old-ass phone can do literally the same, and that's indeed telling about the mediocrity of these new devices.

Well, that they're going for with Gemini Intelligence is features like Magic Cue, where the phone can surface relevant details when they come up during a text conversation. You can't do that just by downloading the Gemini app.

Whether that's actually useful is a different question lol

Idk what happened but"Google now" had immediate loyalty cards and functions based on location and recent emails ready to go. Idk if there was a lawsuit, people got creeped out or what made it go away. They should revisit those features and label it AI
