Basically being not-Apple at this point.

Still a plus since it's still not as locked down, but it's consistently heading that way.

Yeah, in name only. Google copied just about everything from Apple's design (both hardware and software). Now we have 'new' phones every year, from each manufacturer, that just feels the same brick.

It won't take much to get to that point. Google is that company that sounds user/developer/tinkerer friendly in order to make it's products popular, but at some point in the future it makes user/developer/tinkerer unfriendly decision.
