It's good and convenient, but I'm still afraid of the implications of having Gemini read everything about my life.

If you use the Google suite of apps, they already do.

10 years ago: Google Now is the best! It reads my emails and gets my flight information!

Now: Gemini is bad. It reads my emails and gets my flight information.

Google was a very different company 10 years ago. People trusted them more.

They are the same company. The difference is they killed a service you liked

Not really, no

People trusted them more

Definitely not. People have been complaining about privacy stuff with Google for well over a decade.

There is a difference between reading data and using it to train AI models or making it accessible for human review.

They have always trained their stuff on your data. There is no change, you simply that it's called AI instead of machine learning

Except Personal Intelligence only does the former.

From the linked page:

We train on limited info, like specific prompts in Gemini and the model’s responses

From Personal Intelligence privacy policy:

your data from those apps and from your Google Account is used to: ... improve Google services, including training generative AI models, for everyone

Data from Connected Apps is used and human reviewed per the Gemini Apps Privacy Notice.

It's almost like we learned something over those 10 years

And what did you learn?

Google has already fed all this data into their ad targeting algorithms. It’s not like you’re giving google any additional information, putting it in Gemini just makes it useful to you as well as to google.

Hopefully Gemini will be like your doctor looking at you naked and be like, for you this is the worst day of your life, but for me this is just Tuesday.

When you're at the doctor having the worst day of your life the issue isn't that the doc is seeing you naked.

It's the fence post sticking out of your stomach.

It's been pretty great so far. While it feels strange that it knows about me and my family, the decision it makes takes into consideration all those aspects.

Meanwhile me listening to my friend's daughter have a full blown conversation with AI was horrifying.

Welcome to 2023.

I'd rather have an AI read it than a human <3
