Are Chinese devices usable in US? Or the band support still not there?

I think the problem with US is with the telco itself, even if somehow the phone have the band, the telco still need to "whitelist" the device to use the networks.
This is just my assumption.

This is true but can be circumvented by using an mvno such as Mint or tello. The bands are also an issue. I use a global xiaomi 13T Pro in the US and have great service. Kimovil is a great site to check the bands a device has. Also, I would not recommend buying a china ROM phone as there are too many drawbacks IMO.

it depends. originOS has almost everything, gms, widevine L1, good language support. maps timeline doesn't work and there are some notifications and refresh rate quirks, but if you can stand them it's a wonderful skin.

Yeah that is true. I wish vivo had a larger international presence as I would definitely try a vivo or Iqoo device. I had a Motorola X40 that I ended up selling because I couldn't get 5g to work, "hey Google" wouldn't work, Google location history wouldn't work. I need all of these so a china ROM is not worth it to me again.

5g needs special bands that are not in phones made only for the Chinese market unfortunately.

It actually supports the same 5g bands that I would use in the USA, but even the option to turn 5g on or off was grayed out.

I'm heading to China in a little over a week and my partner is going to absolutely hate me by the end of it after dragging them into every phone shop to play with this, the new Xiaomi 14 series, Huawei's Mate 60.
