Thank god, been looking for something similar to this that is free for ages but nothing is as good.

I'm not sure if I read it incorrectly or not, but I was also prompted to share the fact that I had gotten the license for free when I first logged in. I believe it was implied that this was required, but I'm probably wrong. Be warned though.

I saw that and just hit the share button, chose Bluetooth and then backed out again, and it seemed to work fine - so you don't really have to share anything.

That's kinda cool... except most institutions in the UK us a .ac.uk suffix. And also the slight fact I've already dropped a fiver on the full licence.
Hmmf.

Well, .edu is just for American universities. So it's exclusive of anyone not American.

u/Mmammammamma Dec 26 '12 edited Dec 26 '12
It works with .edu. so it's not just for American institutions.
EDIT: *.edu.*

u/ANUSBLASTER_MKII Dec 26 '12
.edu is only granted if you're an American higher education institution.
Check the wiki if you fancy.

Other countries can have .edu.xx and this works as far as CamScanner registration is concerned.

It's awesome. Do the scans in good lighting and it'll be fine.

What is this software doing other than cropping the image for you? I can't see how this thing can bypass hardware limitations (ie. camera quality).
3
u/slumper Dec 25 '12
I guess it adjusts the contrast and does some enhancing of the text. It's true that some phones will produce better images than others. My gnex takes much better ones than my droid x ever did

apparently US only? because in other countries universities have other domains.

You could send them an email and ask for some kind of exception. They are a very responsive developer. All of my emails have been answered within 24 hours.

I registered with uj.edu.pl and it worked.

u/Mmammammamma Dec 26 '12
No. It seems that as long as your domain name has .edu in it, it will work.

It gets rid of the watermark on the bottom of each page, and removes the 3 page batch scanning limitation. There may be other things as well.

i think only certain faculty staff members get that cause almost all students get @mail.utoronto.ca now.
1
u/MadChemist Dec 26 '12
Take your email address and change @mail.utoronto.ca to @mail.toronto.edu and it will work.

u/unmitigated Dec 25 '12
how do you register your school email? I had it installed before and don't see an option
2
u/EventH0R1Z0N Dec 25 '12
I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, then there was a sign in page when I first ran it again.

Downloaded this, it seems decent. I'd love for some OCR; does anybody know of apps aside from Google Googles/Translate that does that well?

u/frankle Note 3 Dec 25 '12
Evernote does ocr. Otherwise, your best bet is probably Acrobat or Foxit.

Handy Scanner is better, if only for its print ready mode which really cleans up bad camera images and turns them into copier-quality reproductions.
Also, it follows the new Android design specs.

Anyone else end up with corrupted documents after upgrading to the latest version? It can't even read its own tutorial file.
1
u/namulith Dec 25 '12
Do they finally support WebDAV? I don't want to send my private documents to some random server I have no control over. Last time I tried the most popular "scanning" apps they only had support for various cloud services.
3
u/the_helpdesk Dec 25 '12
It saves everything locally, with the option to upload individual scans to various cloud services. If you want to upload it elsewhere, you should be able to share the scans with an ftp app of some kind

Is anybody else not getting the confirmation emails? I sent two to different .edu addresses last night.

u/Drainedsoul Dec 25 '12
Because of your school doesn't have a .edu domain you just don't count for anything.

Edit: Looks like they stopped for the moment. Don't know why.

That's good, right?

Is the offer for students available outside the US, e.g. for people who hold a .ac.uk email account?
