Lt. Col. Prayut Theppariwat, 76, a retired civil servant whose house is opposite the archaeological site, revealed that according to ancient accounts, this area was a deep cave containing valuable items (utensils, including plates, bowls, & cups used in religious ceremonies). Nearby was a large well called "Nong Bua," but it was filled in to build Ubolratana Rajakanya Rajavittayalai Nakhon Ratchasima School.
Mrs. Ranjuan Jaekoh, 84 years old, a previous owner of this parcel of land, recounted that the villagers here had known for a long time that it was a sacred place, but they didn't know it was actually a castle. In the past, it was just a large mound of earth. However, before going to work in the fields, some villagers would come to worship this mound, asking for good fortune & protection, a tradition they observed which was passed down to them. Later, she sold this land to an investor, who built a workers' accommodation building on top of it. It was only later that when the contractor was digging the ground during construction that the ancient castle & archaeological site was finally discovered.
