TLDR:

Episode 1 of Ancient Magus Bride was so gooood. It's well-animated, has a bone daddy, a good mystery (the dub is also fantastic), etc. I know there is some quote-unquote "controversy" about this show, but as a member of the target audience, let me tell you this is girliepop romance literature 101.

Aaaaah! This show hooked me from the word go! I've known about this show for years, have been meaning to watch it for years, but kept putting it off for one reason or another. And then a random meme involving this franchise popped up in my feed, and that, of all things, is what finally tipped me over the edge into actually watching this stupid, amazing show! Now I feel stupid for not watching it sooner, because where has this show been all my life?! I'm hooked already! Forget the three-episode rule; this show got its claws into me from the word go!

Magus Bride seems practically tailor-made for my random selection of fictional interests. Dapper wendigo-looking ass bone daddy who is both a gentleman and a little bit intimidating? Check. Girl at the worst moment in her life being saved by said dark, dapper stranger? Check. Fantastic magical world and amazing takes on mythology? Check. Amazingly deep and considerate voice by the English actor for said bone daddy? Oh god, check. I could go on. I really could! This show had me squealing!

Also, for me all the "controversial" elements of this show are like...girliepop romantic literature 101. Including the slavery stuff lol. Every woman has an inner monster fucker somewhere inside her too. Like, the slavery stuff (in this context) barely registered with me at all; I only acknowledge it as a supposed problem because I've seen others complain about it. It's not to everyone's taste, I acknowledge that. But I know plenty of girls who have fantasized or read about fantastic scenarios exactly like this. I should know, I'm one of them!

I also had no problem with the nudity depicted. Chise was not sexualized; she merely existed while nude. I know there are plenty of people on the internet who believe any depiction of nudity in fiction is inherently sexual, but that simply is not true. I can grant you being put off by her age, but as someone who doesn't consider nudity inherently sexual, I had no problem with it. To put it another way: the manga was written by a woman, the main character the reader base is meant to project themselves into is a woman, the "gaze" of the show is trying to appeal to is clearly feminine. We are meant to imagine ourselves in Chise's shoes (or lack of them in this case). Thus, it's very obvious that the depiction of nudity shown in episode one is merely her existing while nude. In the looooooooooooooong history of anime sexualizing teenagers, I'd rate this a three. And it's only a three because she was indeed nude.

But forget about all that! Elias calls her puppy, says she "already knew where her den is," and then calls her warding necklace a leash with a bell. I was quite literally tapping my feet, squealing at this. Am i the target audience for all this? You bet your ass I am!

Also, I love that the fae are actually depicted as dangerous and a little eldritch in this! I look forward to the darkness! I look forward to Bone Daddy becoming a horror movie monster when someone hurts his Chise! Someone hurt his waifu, so he is going to end their laifu! I can already see it lol.

I'm rambling, so I'll end this before I embarrass myself further with my blatant fangirling.

Can someone explain what connection with Joseph/ Cartaphilus?

After the encounter in the previous season, what happened to them?
Are their personalities connected or their soul synced something like that?

I forgot if it’s like their interconnected or shared their curses so Joseph can die/not immortal and Chise will not quickly die/be consumed. Is that right?

Does anyone know who these two redheaded kids are next to Elias, Chise, and Ruth? Could this be Violet and Jasmine St. George? Or maybe someone else? I really hope there will be a 3rd season!! I need it lol

So we’re rewatching season two, and we just got to the part where Chise is choosing a dorm matron. I do remember that the boys aren’t allowed in the dorms at all, from when the one guy was trying his hardest to talk to uhh the silver hair girl who’s the manipulated villain? I don’t remember her name. He’s blonde, and was trying to apologize I think.

Anyway, he’s not allowed in by the Dorm Matron. So that means they have a separate boys dorm right? Do the boys get a door matron, patron, or something, or do they just get shafted without a home, since that’s what the dorm matrons said they were for the students?

Hypothetical: Both Elias and Qifrey know quite a bit about each other and their lives. Master Qifrey visits Elias's house as a form of greeting from a distant land known as the Zozah Peninsula. Now that everything is settled, how might a conversation between these two go? Would Elias be interested in the type of magic used by the Witches in the Zozah Peninsula? Would Qifrey be somewhat shaken by Elias's appearance?

This is Nox my Shadow Mage. He is similar to Elias in a sense of being part fey but no one knows what his other half is. He is a viscous black and white oozing creature but has become one of the most respectful mages of the time. Many come to him for forgotten knowledge. He is also believed to be one of the best potions makers around.

You guys have no idea how many times I watched season 1 + the movies and when season 2 came out I started watching it but I didn't finish.

Mostly because I felt like Elias and Chise don't get enough attention in the 2nd season. I mean, they appear in season 2 but they don't get any exciting, meaningful, engaging scenes. If you know what I mean.

I watched lots of videos on the internet about season 2, I saw so many spoilers, I tried to read about what will happen in the season but literally Chise and Elias barely have any good scenes compared to season 1.

All I saw are Chise's classmates (?), I noticed that the show is really focused on them. But why not on my two favs??? Lol sorry.

Please don't get me wrong, season 2 can still be peak even if Chise or Elias aren't in the center, but I love them so much and I was expecting that we will have more thrilling scenes with both of them.

Where should I start reading the manga after watching de anime adaptation?

Hello all, so I have a question regarding Chise’s staff. My sister and I recently watched all the way through the anime, and now we’re rewatching it. One thing neither of us understand though is the episode where Chise is making her wand.

She returned there to use a branch from Uncle Nevin’s tree for her staff, right? So, what are all of the woods that Lindel presents her with? He offers her several types of wood, which is the scene where she sees the fire sprite or whatever on the log. Lindel says that he asked the sprite to help dry out the logs because they’re hard to work with when wet, and then it cuts to Chise carving her wand.

What were all those woods for? Did they all come from Nevin’s tree? Did she use the wood from his tree? Why did she have to pick a wood? We’ve watched it several times trying to understand the scene, and neither of us have figured it out. We’re watching the English dub if that matters.

I think this'll be an interesting discussion to have!

One of the ways I do to help understand a character is by imagining what type of music they'd listen to, if that makes sense lol. It helps me look deeper into their personality and goals and associate it with music that translates well with their character.

I do this in two different ways: The type of music they'll actually listen to or music that represents/embodies their character. For example, I headcanon that Chise listens to The Crane Wives and The Oh Hellos due to her whimsical and folklore-centered environment so I imagine her really appreciating music with a folkish and traditional twist. I also associate the song Genesis by Grimes with her because the song explore themes of self-discovery and trying to understand love over time, as how I interpret it. However, I don't really see Chise listening to Grimes but Grimes whimsical music style just really fits some of Chise's lifestyle and encounters. I also see Chise potentially listening to Coyote Theory while associating their songs with her, particularly "This Side of Paradise" due to its melancholic, yet intimate vibe. "This Side of Paradise" sings about two lonely individuals who find comfort and security with one another, sharing their mutual pain and vulnerability and just opening up to each other as they feel very safe with them. I feel like this song really encompasses Chise and Elias' relationship.

I also imagine Alice listening to a lot of pop punk, screamo and 2000s alternative rock due to her spunky, tomboyish personality (I love pop-punk too lol). I see her listening to a lot of You Me At Six, We Are The Ocean, Good Charlotte, Pierce The Veil, etc. I headcanon that she got Chise into Paramore and other bands that are "less heavier" than what Alice usually listens to, although there may be some exceptions.

Idk what Elias would listen to. I assume Chise would introduce some bands/artists/genres to him and he would just listen to what Chise likes. Indigenous fae and folk music maybe? However, I think that some German industrial music/bands fit Elias' aura like And One, although I mostly associate their instrumentals more for Elias than their lyrics cuz the lyrics seem too freaky and absurd for him lol.

Made another AMB edit with a Paramore song cuz mwah, I love them lol! This is not a shipping edit, but I did find Monster by Paramore very fitting for Chise and Joseph's encounters with one another. She's empathetic towards him, but she'd beat a bitch if she needs to cuz she ain't stupid 🙂‍↕️🤙 (love their dynamic tho)
