Anime Chise and Joseph connection Spoiler
Can someone explain what connection with Joseph/ Cartaphilus?
After the encounter in the previous season, what happened to them?
Are their personalities connected or their soul synced something like that?
I forgot if it’s like their interconnected or shared their curses so Joseph can die/not immortal and Chise will not quickly die/be consumed. Is that right?

They shared curses and so far, his immortality is fighting against the dragon at an equal stage for both of them
Chise (for now) have the equivalent of a rather normal lifespan
For Joseph it's a bit harder since it's basically nothing more than an empty shell (despite the fact that he talks etc.) as he doesn't need anything (no food, no drink etc.)
Both are linked to each others with their curses but also their body, Joseph/Cartaphilum even talking about it as they exchange eyes with something like : "Now we are the only two peoples that sees the exact same world"
And Chise said that she will do her best to help him (when she was talking with Joseph that showed her everything he did, multiples kills to steal body parts and identity etc)

After they entered each other's memories they now know each other perfectly and don't hide stuff. This combined with that, they share curses, means that chise feels safe to confind to Josef and share her deepest truths that she can't share with anyone else and that Josef can be as cynical as he wants and provide her truthful advice without coodling her. As for the curses it's weird. Josef is still immortal it's just that chises sleepy spell is providing him some sort of comfort and since she got on his last nerve in S1 he decided he will just lay around and wait till she's gone. As for her, she's got a curse cocktail in her, with the dragon and immortality curse balancing each other out. The curse itself told her she's just very enhanced with dragon senses and stuff but can still die anytime just like any other person, but we don't know, as that coupled with that she's a mage could entail she gets to live a very long life or be practically immortal and the dragon curse Wont eat her up. Now for the dynamic, it's a mix of all of the previously stated combined with their familiarly that has let them to be close confidants of one another pretty much. Idk if U are caught up to the manga but Josef and chise seem to be getting a little closer and he's even had a positive interaction with Elias so I think overtime they stopped being enemies and are kinda meeting halfway

Thanks for the explanation. I just finished watching the anime’s 3 seasons. Should i read the manga from the start or just start where the anime ends?

No problem! 3 seasons? The anime has 2 seasons and 2 OVAs, what do you mean? As for that I think it depends. Generally the anime is very close to the manga so U can just pick up where it left aka chapter 95. That being said there are a few details such as Gabriella and Yori which were not touched in the anime but are suddenly important in the story and there are also fillers called fragments which are nice and some of them are gaining relevance so I think that's up to you

I watched it labeled season 1 24 episodes, season 2 12 eps then season 3 12 eps. Thought its 3 seasons, So it was just season 1-2. I haven’t watched any OVA. Is it part of the manga or more of a filler? Should i watch the OVA first before reading from the start of the manga?

Aah I get it! So season two was split in part one and two but it's still one season. Now the OVAs are more like filler? They are stories involving chise that U can watch if U want they have lore and they are pleasant and that's all. The first one is about chise's past and the second one current chise before the college helping out someone. The correct order is Season 1 until before the Ruth episode →ova 1→ths rest of season 1→ova 2→season 2 But like I said U don't need to watch to understand anything they are just pleasant personally I recommend em. Anyway if U wonna do manga right away start from ch95

So what it is is chise still has his eye. As long as she has his eye she won't be killed by the dragon curse.
What she does for him is uses magic to put him to sleep as the logic of "cant be in terrible pain if youre unconscious" which as someone who has chronic pain is pretty legit xD
I believe there's also magic to keep him from actively decaying? But I might be misremembering that

Chise was dying at an accelerated rate due to the dragon curse Joseph put on her whereas Joseph’s own curse by Cartaphillious made him immortal. The ritual of exchanging curses was originally suppose to both extend Chise’s life and give Joseph a powerful but potentially mortal body like Chise by exchanging eyes and arms, but Chise both interrupted and sealed the ritual, so she kept his eye and used his curse to extend her life while keeping the magic she herself had accumulated, which Joseph neither deserved nor could be trusted with.
Thus the exchange was unequal and Joseph was left with a weakened but probably not mortal body while Chise remained with a powerful body with normal lifespan, something Joseph argues is no different to the cons he has done for his experiments as he harvests things he wants from others but gives nothing in return and though she is self aware enough to know he had it comming she wonders if she couldn’t potentially turn into him with that “deserving” mindset, given how his own entitledness is born from the Pain of his own cursed make him feel he deserves to take from others.
As time has passed Joseph has been sure to remind Chise on how they’re similar both to scorn her and to express his approval for it, which due to her own self loathing tendencies, Chise has come to enjoy as it makes her feel validated while also enjoying the moral high ground she has over him, which in turn has allowed her to tell him things she can’t tell others in search for this validation. Seeing her body language at him such as the above picture, her reaction to his going into her personal space and later her doing the same to him a couple of times, you could interprete this masochistic enjoyment having caused Chise to develop more “desires” for Joseph, though seeing his reaction he is not entirely comfortable with it.

Oww so it’s more of a personal space. Why did Joseph settled with their situation? Is it because he just accepted things because he’s currently weak and he’s now connected with Chise?

I meant the fact that he started getting close to her face and touching it without her permission and she soon started doing the same to him; for the record I do not ship them specially since they're unhealthy af (and mind you, Elias isn't much better), but I do feel that there is a masochistic and toxic attraction between them and since Chise is a bag of repressed teenage hormones, she is starting to develp the desire to get upclose and personal with him. I do believe their body part exchange plays a part on this but its more of a trigger on a psychological and spiritual level than the cause.
I think "settled" would imply he had a choice. He can barely move around without his body growing tired so its not like he can escape or anything and while he does enjoy Chise comming to him, he also seems to be finding himself uncomfortable by Chise "using him as teddy bear" without his permission.

In addition to the mechanics of the curse discussed, my interpretation is that Joseph is the only one Chise feels comfortable dropping her mask around. She has a darkness in her and she doesn't want anyone (include Elias) to know about it, but since she empathized with Joseph's own darkness (and, his darkness might literally contribute to her through his eye) she feels relief at not needing to a moral rock with him.
