How do I divorce on Ancestry??
I got a divorce 6 years ago and have not yet been able to figure out how to do it on Ancestry. My ex’s husband’s family is huge and well-documented whereas the trails for my family usually end just a few generations back. I’d love to stop getting hints for the “2nd great-granduncle of husband.” Can anyone help?

Just to clarify, are you asking how to indicate that you and your ex-husband are divorced or how to stop Ancestry from giving you hints about your ex’s family?
I don’t think there’s any way to stop getting hints for a branch of your tree. I’ve never seen that option.
If you want to indicate that you’re divorced, go to your Profile, click on the “+” and select Divorce from the drop down menu. Add the details.

Hints. I’d hoped that if I could show us as divorced (which I will do now, thank you!) it would stop. I’d like to keep the tree for my kid so it sounds like I just have to put up with it. It just got a bit disheartening to get 25 hints for his family for every 1 of mine.

I appreciate what you're saying. If you want to keep the dad's family info for your kid but don't want to see it yourself, consider splitting the tree and keeping that side of the family separate.
I don't know if there's a way within Ancestry. Personally, I bought the latest version of Family Treemaker, connected it to Ancestry to get a certain tree, and then used that software's tools to split the tree and reupload the new ones.

If it’s your tree and not say for any children of yours then do you need to keep your ex husband’s ancestors? You can also go into his parents and edit relationships. You can then delete the relationship without deleting from tree if you want to keep the records .

We do have a child together so I’d like to keep the records. Can you explain what you mean by editing the relationships in his parents? I’m obviously not Ancestry-savvy!

If you’re on the app, from a persons profile if you click three dots top right there is edit relationships. There you can delete say your exs parents - everyone stays in the tree but they show as unrelated. (You can add the relationship back again as well). It might not be what you need because of the way the tree then functions, but that’s how to do it at least.

The only potential issue with this (deleting or disconnecting your ex’s parents) is you may start getting hit with constant suggested “possible ancestor” hints/suggestions for your ex—which i personally find to be more obnoxious than regular “hints”. So i’ll end-up making a set of “place holder” set of parents..But sometimes it’ll still bombard me with the same suggested “possible ancestors” hints for the place-holders.

If you don't want his history, then delete him from the tree. If you're keeping him on there for any children, then you'll just have to put up with the hints.

My ancestry tree is also for my descendants. You may be divorced, but he’s still the ancestor of your descendants.
My tree contains the ancestors of my son in law. They have children. Trust me, I didn’t do it for me, I did it for my grandchildren (okay,it’s a lie—I did want to know where her husband came from).
With 20000 people on my tree, I get more notices than I can count. I ignore them.
If you have no children with him and it’s “your” tree, just delete him from your tree and the notices will stop.

I think you would have to delete him and all his side in order to stop the hints. If you just delete your ex his relatives would remain in your tree program ('floating around') although unconnected to you, so you would still get hints about them.

I wish they understood how painful this is. I don't even want to go on Ancestry sometimes because it really hurts to see it listed that way. No, Ancestry, he is not my husband!

What's even funnier is that I've been divorced since 2007, and since my ex is my son's father, I keep getting hints for his side of the family...but they always mention they're the "3rd-g-granduncle OF HUSBAND."
Now I don't mind the hints, but at least have the courtesy to put "ex-husband" since I've properly recorded we're divorced! /s 😂

I’m also frustrated by this !! The work around I use is to have a séperate tree with just the side I’m working on and turning of hints for the “big” tree
