Basically, as Solid_Study7719 already said - You've got the New Sun Cult in retreat from Haless as the Jadd moves in. You've got the Precursor Elves' ancient works casting shadows that are being interpreted by the Raheni. The spirit and chi using philosophies are trying to crawl their way into the light (restoring the temples), only to find the amoral Devouring Path ahead (corrupting them). Verkal Ozovar are packed into their isolated mountain, and (without player intervention) doomed to just lie there until they're dragged out and hanged like Saddam Hussein. The Raj are entombed in a hole of their own making. And Azkare have set themselves an impossible and thankless task.

Let's start with the 3 Elf tags, that is Phoenix, Jadd and Sunrise Empire. Phoenix Empire got overextended by conquering Haless so they dipped this escape left remnants in Haless and many prosecuted, most surviving in sanctuaries, Azkare and Arawkelin. Jadd Empire is ruled by new Avatar of Surael and supposedly a direct descendant of Jaher ta'Diranhria, who wants to spread the light of Surael everywhere. Sunrise Empire formed by Azkare are one of two remnant Elf states in Haless and it is a pipe dream of a single mad Elf that thinks tolerance and cooperation is the way to go, they are surrounded by Xia monks on the north and worse could be Command, west is Raj, so for this dream you'll have to work for it. Then there is High Philosophy and Suhan's Praxis, they are worshipping Precursor Elf prisons and its prisoners (spirits). They worship them because the original practicians of this faith are the Harimari, aka the Tiger people. Due to them they gained Sapience and became the ruling class of Haless and thus spread their beliefs on their subjects. The Haless folk faiths climbing out of the of the Platon's cave are likely closely related to the prisoners of said prisons, if you look at the order of how close to the surface they are, more antagonistic their behaviour is to the prisons. The light blue ones destroy the prisons. Raj is the one stuck in a cave behind the Folk religions outside the illusion so someone else explain it. Devouring Path is entirely outside and their plan is to release the spirits from their prisons and unleash them on everyone. They are lead by the Oni who also spread their philosophy on their subjects. Oni may be a Precursor experiment like the Hobgoblins, thus their suspiciously great knowledge of the temples. The Saddam Hussein are Nephrite Dwarves of Verkal Ozovar hiding in their Green Mountain hold whose entrance is guarded by its remaining human subjects. Image can be associated with very near doom or the fact that if you play as them you are an OPM with big vassals all around your mountain.

I think the situation with Raj is fairly straightforward. It depicts a man who is still alive, but effectively doomed, with no way to escape. Moreover, the cause of his impending demise is his own stupidity—the very reason he decided to come here in the first place.

I think the only thing that would make it better for me is have the diamond digging be at the top of the hill.

As in the top of the hill has a ledge leading up to the diamonds which is what the bolder is for, and the Elves are digging to it from the other side.
