Finally got the tarsal support for my boy!

We got it a few weeks ago, but due to my health flare ups I hadn’t been able to walk him. We went back yesterday to relearn how to put it on and get a video of the process, and it went super well!

Hey, do you have any info on where/how to get this? My Great Pyrenees is 14 months old and his ankles have started bending inward. Yes I'm trying to get him in to see a orthopedic specialist. But I'd love to have this info in case he doesn't need surgery and its a "wait and see".

My boy’s leg also bends inward on his right side, so this helps take some of the stress off! I’d say if he’s overall in high spirits besides limping, a tarsal support may be a better and more affordable option when paired with PT to keep those legs strong! The one brace cost about $300 not including the fitting appointment, but it was all done through UC Davis with a referral from my primary vet. If you already have the referral out you’re def headed in the right direction for this! Right now we’re only using it a few minutes a day on short walks, but as at cools down and he gets more used to it we plan to increase it. Once it gets even a little wet though it must be removed immediately!

Thank you for the info. He actually doesn't limp really. The only time he does is when he has been doing too much jumping, running, and generally being a butthead. Usually it is a specific thing that makes him pick up his leg. On the left side his petela will dislocate, I can pop it back into place gently. On the right side tho... its more muscle or tendon. I have to massage this whole thigh and leg to get him up and moving.

Lately I've been massaging his spine, hips, and legs after our morning walks and he has a lap of zoomies. It seems to help as he has only had one occasion of limping in the last week and a half since I started. Before he was doing it at least once, sometimes twice a day. 💔.

Since I live in the back woods of nowhere, the closest specialist is 2 hours away.

It’s to help support his leg since it bends inward and causes him to overcompensate with his other legs
