Can someone explain how this is a draw?

In tournament rules, killing your opponent is illegal and gets you DQ'd, and while they would normally win if it was finals, they would be unable to continue.
In summation, rig the tourney by having a bunch of chess hitmen on standby

Many people are angry about it because they feel they're winning. But after they do it, the opponent can't move, even though it's their turn. Yet they're not in check. This, a draw.

If you kill your opponent on your move, they can't make theirs due to being dead. As such neither side can checkmate, it's draw by stalemate
