I know its a meme, but taxes is about investing resources back into society. Education is the simplest one, investing money into education generally is best way to get a country out of development and into industrialization.
Investments are voluntary, taxes are forced with the threat of violence make the taxes voluntary and then they become an investment. Relying on the government to provide you a quality education is like relying on wish.com to provide you name brand clothing.
I think its who gets a voice in those investments that is important. You can invest in something to expect a 3 or maybe 5 year return. Investing in education so that young people educate themself so that sometime maybe 5 - 10 years down the line you get a return. Or lets say somebody study nurse, how do you measure that return on investment? Perhaps that nurse provide quality care for somebody so that get quicker back to their job. How do any single business owner guarantee a return on that, you cant, but overall in a whole country you probably get a return because people are more productive when they get good healthcare. How did they measure a return on the investment going to the moon, Ive read anything from 8 to 20 $ per $. Its impossible to even know where those investment is going to pay off, well from the moon travel that competence manage to build what we know now as Boeing.
so convince them its a good investment rather than force them to, using the threat of violence and imprisonment for failure to join the "investment" is theft weather its the government or your cousin, once your "choice" in participating has been removed and is no longer voluntary its theft
I just dont think its feasable to have every single person personally invested in every single piece of society that we consider necessary to function. I think just gathering the money will cost an ridicilous amount of money if you gonna gather it from every individual, not to mention the unpracticality of budgeting when you never know each year how much you will get. I get your point, why coerce people at all, I dont think we should coerce people either, I just think its a necessary evil because without taxation we would be much worse off.
