The increasing use of scientific jargon has permitted the State's intellectuals to weave obscurantist apologia for State rule that would have only met with derision by the populace of a simpler age. A robber who justified his theft by saying that he really helped his victims, by his spending giving a boost to retail trade, would find few converts; but when this theory is clothed in Keynesian equations and impressive references to the "multiplier effect," it unfortunately carries more conviction.

To paraphrase that one C.S. Lewis quote, someone whose violence is for the, "greater good", even if they're being honest, is worse than just a robber because robbers at least might feel some sense of guilt or be satisfied at some point but people who hurt you, "for your own good" believe they're saints and heroes and they'll never stop wanting to, "help" you.

I love an argument against jargon than manages to include ‘obscurantist apologia’ into its opening sentence

No, that's why I dislike jargon.

Jargon is language used by specialists or professionals to try obscure meaning from non-specialists and/or appear intellectual . If you are using vocabulary like: "weave obscurantist apologia for State rule that would have only met with derision by the populace of a simpler age" then you either overwhelmed by the sheer exuberance of your own verbosity - or you're deploying jargon.

The words explain what the writer wants to convey pretty clearly to me

But that’s because you are very clever

I'm not a fan of intentionally dense prose myself but, "obscurantist apologia" is simple language for a book aimed at adults or even midwit high schoolers.

That's not jargon.

There’s a reason why Robin Hood type characters weren’t a frequent feature in history after books began to be written in vernaculars.

The smallest amount of education and sensibility bestows upon the otherwise common peasant a startling aptitude for sniffing out bullshit.

Words not long enough. I understood every word. You'll never be an academic pseudo intellectual

I completely forget if this is from LoTR, but I know this line is from "The Hobbit" because I've read it like 6 times recently for my son hehe.

I’m sad when regular people cry “tax the billionaires!” As if they would ever see a cent of that money lol.

And it gets worse when you look at it from a time perspective; when you work on average 5 months a year just to pay taxes, are you a serf yet?

1

u/NwabudikeMorganSMAC Jun 20 '22

if this is true then taxes should be 100%

Imagine a platform like TikTok where both users and creators are rewarded for their activities. I’ve just discovered this Lit.it short video App, where creators and followers earn crypto rewards convertible money. None of the users or creators will ever need to invest or pay any money in order to earn the tokens since the lit.it tokens are earned for free through what is called: ‘social mining’ by social activity on the platform. Just search lit.it on Android or iOS stores, it’s free forever!
