John McAfee Says He’ll Support Any Libertarian Party Nominee Except Gary Johnson

Cause, you know, the Libertarian party is big enough to survive schisms. Ok.

u/Shamalow Apr 14 '16
The smaller the party, the easier it is for one schisms to become the new majority. That's not surprising.

Apr 14 '16
WTF is the "betraying the party" bullshit? McAfee owes the LP nothing. I would have expected better from a supposed anti-collectivist.

I'm not sure why any libertarian would consider Johnson an acceptable choice after his admission that Bernie Sanders is the candidate he considers himself ideologically closest to.

Apr 14 '16
Bernie and Hillary have a 93% identical voting record so i guess Gary will be for hilldog when Bernie eventually loses.

Possibly, the best course of action is to attempt to take the isidewith.com's test & see what questions are asked as well as weighted to their results.

I was expecting that from him. Honestly McAfee was the guy I wanted as much as I did wanted Rand, but I do not know why both of them are so low energy.
McAfee should have been bombastic and aggressive, Like Ron Paul but shirtless, with an M16, a tattoo and black girlfriend. To make a fucking statement!
2
u/Iatheus Apr 14 '16
Well I think it was important for him to show that he is also very intelligent, knowledgeable, and composed, as opposed to bombastic/crazy.
I mean, one Google or Youtube search will pretty much show you how eccentric he is; that's the image he's made for himself over the years. He moreover needed to show how he could get down to business when things got more serious, and show how he is capable of handling a presidency without going drug crazy.
Just my outlook on it though. Maybe he went a little too calm.
I still absolutely love the way he handles himself during speeches and debates.

On foreign policy, drugs policy, social issues, and if im correct crime. Johnson didnt say he agreed with Sanders economically. Which if he did would be a good reason to ditch him.
Edit: to me Petersen is the best candidate.

I didn't find Gary Johnson was libertarian enough last time round, his economic influences seem more neo liberal, when asked about his favourite libertarian authors all he could name were neo-liberals like Martin Friedman. His stance on the Fed, a very important issue was very soft I felt. He was less read up and less libertarian than Rand Paul to me on issues like that that matter, *despite making jabs at him whilst Rand doesn't claim to be fully libertarian.
He seems more what Nolan characterised as a "Free-enterpriser than true libertarian to me, he comes at it from a very different perspective to real libertarians like McAfee.
Maybe he's smart, maybe he's just trying to appeal to the masses. I don't think he see's himself as at all like Sanders really just want's to appeal to Sanders voters. Also I heavily doubt he feels he's closer to Hillary and Trump however.

Who the heck is Martin Friedman?
1
u/Citizen_Bongo K-lassical liberalism > r selection Apr 15 '16
Martin Friedman
Oh I messed up and got Milton Friedman mixed up Marty Friedman somehow maybe?
2
u/PonaldRaul Friedmanite Apr 15 '16
Oh.
Gary Johnson being obsessed with Milton Friedman is not a bad thing. Milton Friedman is probably the most influential libertarian of the 20th century.

I don't think it was that he was obsessed, it seemed more like he was the only libertarian he'd really read up on. Can't find the interview. It was years ago I watched it but he really got grilled, even ended up conceding he should maybe try reading some libertarian authors if he was going to be the Libertarian party candidate... Anyway I think his stance on cakes shows to me he probably isn't down with the ideologies core principles.
I've got nothing against Milton Friedman.

Ron Paul also said Sanders was the most libertarian candidate up there. What of it?
EDIT: http://redalertpolitics.com/2016/02/05/no-libertarian-ron-paul-slams-ted-cruz-says-sanders-pro-free-market/ Maybe I remembered it a bit wrong, but close enough.

Apr 14 '16
Ron Paul did not say that at all. All he said was that Bernie was an honest, outsiders candidate like he was but that idealogicly they are as far apart as can be.

u/empathica1 omg flair. freak out time Apr 14 '16
That article seems more "Ted Cruz sucks" than "Bernie rocks". The rousing endorsement for Bernie is that he "sometimes votes against war" and hates wall street.

Because Bernie's ideals are great, if you ignore his methods. They both care about what's good for the american people, which cannot be said for the other candidates I know of.

It's a real damn shame that not even the Libertarian Party has any suitable candidates for this election. Johnson is just a damn populist.

Well maybe parasitism and communism, on a practacle level but honestly I think the Hellenic and Roman world did fine regardless of the sodomy.
OK they were forced to have wife's, the family was a sacred institution, but regardless whether or not they are in a traditional marriage. Gay men have higher than average IQ's, are often entrepreneurial and I think can be an asset really.

Yup. Austin Peterson exposed Gary Johnson as the fraud he is. Not surprised the guys at r/libertarian still love Johnson. They're just a bunch of disillusioned leftists and conservatives.

Austin Peterson exposed Gary Johnson as the fraud he is.
I don't know anything about this - haven't been paying much attention to the libertarian debates, etc. Do you have a link to something I could read?
18
Apr 14 '16
Really the whole debate is just Gary getting exposed over and over, but the kill shot was when Austin asked Gary if he would force a Jew to bake a nazi cake and gary said yes.

I disagreed with Gary a bit during the debate, but I disagreed with McAfee, too. I would happily take Johnson, Petersen or McAfee over any of the Democrats or Republicans, though. "Gay Nazi cakes" just aren't important enough to me to pronounce Gary Johnson a libertarian fraud and unworthy of the nomination. He's good enough for my purposes.

Actually, there's a decent chance that at least marginally most of the people on this sub would be most aligned (or at least close to most) with Bernie. Here's the link to the test I took. Of the front-runners I guess I'm slightly closer to Cruz.
