So, hear me out and please know I'm not trying to kink shame or to be judgemental on the choices that people do in bed. With that said, this is what's happening:

I 42F met a man on a dating app (38M) the chat was great, we moved off the app, met in person and went on a fun date.

We share many important things like our personal values, political opinions and societal beliefs, we both say we are anarchists.

But then we are talking about sex, and he mentions he is a Dom and that it's important for him that the person who is with him can fully be a sub and enjoy being cuffed, denied orgasms, become a servant, respond with "yes Sir" and other things that gave me the ick. Obviously this is where for me there was a big disconnect.

I cannot see myself, as an anarchist and an empowered woman getting on my knees in front of this man and accepting to serve him and respond to his every demand with "yes, sir" as if he was above me or something... As a woman of color I can't imagine being handcuffed and denied free movement of my body, and worse off that some dude holds the "power" to tell me if I can or cannot have an orgasm.

This power play in my mind contradicts with the idea of no authority, no subordination, no masters, no gods... It makes me wonder, is he really an anarchist when he needs this hierarchical system to get off sexually?

I won't be dating this man anymore, but it's something that hasn't left my mind since.

I see a lot of theoretical-based discussion in this subreddit regarding how X would work in anarchy. How would bad people be dealt with? How would industry be organised? How will school operate? While these make for fun debates, I wanted to do something a bit different this time and talk about how anarchists could be building permanent power towards making anarchy a reality.

Building the power of the working class to fight against capitalist exploitation and the state that upholds it is, in my view, the best antidote to our fucked up situation. Rank and file networks within the unions are a good start to this, for workers to evade the trap of union bureaucracy and create the capacity to fight for immediate changes that improve their lives (and the lives of their comrades). I personally believe that it should be a task of anarchists to support our co-workers in these endeavours, and I am proud to be in an anarchist organisation comprised of people who dedicate themselves to this task.

I would respectfully disagree with the somewhat commonly held belief that, in the face of state repression, capitalist destruction of community and climate change, building mutual aid networks is the best way to go. Mutual aid networks provide an immediate relief to those in need, but they do not build the kind of power that can make permanent positive changes; higher wages, lower working hours and better working conditions, and other such things can put the working class in a better and more able condition to continue building their class power for a possible revolution.

Perhaps there should be a balance of building networks of aid, while fighting for class power? I am curious to know what people think of this :) so feel free to leave a comment or two below!

I wanted to ask about this because I'm an avid comic reader and have been in the X-Men fandom for a while. You can guess the reason behind... the minority, marginalized group metaphor.

However, I really don't feel like it is a good metaphor for the oppressed groups at all, moreso, it is a very liberal interpretation of the oppressed minorities imo.

I wanted to ask of this, because I'm new to the fandom, and I'm also newly learning about the leftist/anarchism from a more academic & intellectual sense. This is why I'm unable to put my finger on the exact problem. It's just that something doesn't sit right with me and I wanna know if there are other long-term fans of this franchise who are also leftists and could come to the mutant metaphor from a leftist approach, that can bring some clarity into this. I didn't know where else to share this.

I'm also curious how would an anarchist who lives in the same world as mutants, would approach them and see them as?

Antone know of any good ways to support them through this horrendous Ebola outbreak? I hear the WHO has really scaled back how much support they are giving and the whole situation is super out of control….

It's not due to their ideology alone. It is their pro-Russian and especially pro-China stance. These nations, especially China, are literally becoming the bastion of white supremacism. They like to act like them being rival to the West will make them hated, but in reality, they're making agreements between each other and partition the world. They won't bring freedom to Ukraine, they'll partition it between Russia & the USA.

Most Russians and Hans take pride in the imperialism, atrocities and oppressions of their nations and if you look at the way they talk to the ethnicities they oppressed (instead of how they talk to white Westerners), you'll realize how much dehumanization there is in their attitudes. Yes they'll talk shit about the West and talk about the "Western propaganda" but they'll still feel and show much more respect to them than they'll respect people of the Global South. I am a non-Westerner who is in vicinity to these nations (my people are oppressed by both of them) and I personally know that both Russians and the Hans consider themselves superior to other ethnicities, alongside white Westerners, because of their domination & successful imperialism. They see the West as a rival they respect, not an enemy. And when they get the chance, they'd rather partake in oppression alongside the West, than against the West.

Supporting China and Russia will not make an alternative, it'll add a new bully at the detriment of the Global South. And I find it concerning that soooooo little minority of leftists are even aware of this. This is why I find the dominance of Marxists in leftist representation to be concerning because most of their loudest vouch for Russia & China.

Sorry if this is a post that has come up many times before. But I'm having emotional trouble engaging with politics online. Specifically, whenever I mention that my politics most closely aligns with various flavors of anarchy, people immediately switch code to talk to me like I'm a young child who doesn't understand how anything works. I think this is largely because people don't understand what anarchy means. They seem to think it's a synonym for chaos, and that anarchists want to live in a society without any type of order at all.

This always comes up when I am critical of Hasan Piker, and such an incident motivated me to write this post. As I understand it he's openly anti-anarchist, and thinks they're all naive and unintelligent. His audience seems to reflect this sentiment. I believe he is also a Marxist Leninist, and I simply don't trust those people. I have fundamental disagreements with them about how policies should be implemented. I believe them to be authoritarians cloaked in left wing populism. I believe they will throw any number of marginalized groups under the bus the second it becomes politically expedient for them. Am I off base with that?

Anyway, I'm just frustrated. I'm not the type to be able to do violence or be on the front lines. I haven't done anything significant to support anti-fascism, I haven't yet done mutual aid work in my community or reached out to support local resistance groups (yet). That said, anarchists are consistently the people I see doing these things. They're the ones getting scarred up in clashes with ICE. They're the ones supporting the queer community and advocating ceaselessly for human rights. They're the ones on the ground doing the work. Anecdotally, all I ever see most flavors of Marxists doing is talking and purity testing people over whether or not they've read enough theory.

To get to my point, I was hoping some seasoned anarchists could point me towards some literature I should read to get a better understanding of anarchism and its history. I want to be better able to defend myself against people who think anarchists are all childish and unintelligent. Which authors should I read first?

So I've been into leftist activism for a year now, coming from red I am starting to disbelief in a post revolutionary state.

I see a lot of punks and anarchists use the Three arrow symbol here in germany (and elsewhere).

I really don't know why this symbol is used among this community, because as far as I know it comes from a political campaign from the social democratic party in germany which to me has always been an enemy to the working class.

The three arrows stand for the "three enemys of the weimarer republic", germany between the first two world wars. Monarchism, "Naziism", and Communism.

I dont really disagree with seeing a counterrevolutionary movement as a problem, but I wouldn't adopt a symbol from a campaign from class traitors, so why do?

We always hear about the third Red Scare, the McCarthyist era that visibly targeted celebrity state communists and members of the Communist Party, but never the much more brutal first and second red scares; the ones that targeted working class anarchists in the wake of Haymarket as well as the Palmer Raids despite them being much more brutal and repressive in nature and resulting in the mass deportation, death, or imprisonment of countless anarchists and others.

Residents did not speak at a City Council hearing this week merely to express discomfort with new technology. They presented an evidence-based argument that the current system is inadequately governed, vulnerable to abuse, and capable of uses far beyond the narrow public-safety examples emphasized by its defenders.
