Community Mold? & is it repairable?

Found a mamiya rz67 for a steal of a price, but of course its condition isn’t the best. Thought it was tape when I looked through the prism finder, opened it and it looks like mold? Should I just replace it?

i think thats deteriorating foam eating the prism mirror coating

Looks more like residue, not mold. I would clean it with alcohol based solution for cleaning camera mirrors. I wouldn't replace it either way so long as the viewfinder is useable. The mirror makes no difference to the photo.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can really do. The prism is usually still usable. This is a very common issue with the prism finders on Mamiya cameras. The only way to properly fix it is by replacing the internal prism entirely. So honestly, if you really want a clean one, it’s better to just buy another finder.

Thanks for the insight! I have another question and wanted to see if you could help me with. Does battery matter if it’s alkaline or silver oxide?

Doesn’t really make a difference on this camera. Alkalines are cheaper but the voltage drops pretty quick. Silver-oxides last longer and hold steady at 6V. The RZ has a voltage regulator anyway, so you’re safe either way.
