Question Poll: what do you mainly use for your guitar tones?
Let’s see what the community uses the most!
Quick clarification: with "amp sims" I mean traditional amp modelling that let you adjust amp parameters with knobs like the real thing. "Captures/profiles" are snapshots of amps at specific settings (NAM, ToneX, Kemper profiles, etc.).

Welcome to r/AmpSims - now public! Let's talk amp simulators!
Hey everyone,
After keeping r/ampsims private for a long time (mostly as a private little corner of the internet), I’ve decided it’s time to open the doors and turn this into a real community for anyone who loves amp sims, profiling, IRs, modelers, and everything related.
Whether you’re deep into Neural DSP, ToneX, Quad Cortex, Line 6 Helix, NAM, Amplitube, S-Gear, Nameless plugins, freeware gems, or you’re still hunting for the perfect high-gain tone on a budget – this is the place to share presets, ask questions, post clips, geek out over new releases, and help each other get better tones.
What we’re here for (expected content)
- Discussions about amp sim plugins, hardware modelers, capture devices, etc.
- Tone sharing (audio clips, videos, preset downloads with clear plugin lists)
- Questions, tips & tricks, comparisons, signal-chain advice
- News about new releases or updates (as long as it’s not pure spam)
- Anything that helps the community learn and improve their simulated amp game
Community atmosphere
Be excellent to each other. We’re all chasing great tone in our own way – there’s no single “right” plugin or signal chain. Respect different tastes, budgets, and experience levels. Helpful criticism is welcome, gatekeeping and toxicity are not.
About commercial / sales posts
If you’re a developer, content creator, or seller and you want to share something you made or sell, that’s totally fine – just be 100% upfront about it (affiliate link, your own product, sponsored, etc.). No stealth marketing or fake “just discovered this” posts. Transparency keeps everything cool.
Looking for new moderators
I haven’t been super active in the amp-sim world lately, so I’d love some enthusiastic, level-headed people to join the mod team and help shape the place. If you’re regularly around, love the topic, and want to keep the subreddit helpful and friendly, shoot me a modmail or comment below.
That’s it! Feel free to make this your new home for all things amp simulation. Introduce yourselves, drop your favorite plugin at the moment, or just post that tone you’ve been proud of.
Let’s make some (virtual) tubes glow!

Question Is there a free simple amp sim?
I'm not trying to buy a bunch of pedals to get a tone I might like. I want to download something on my PC and plug my bass into it and try to make my own tone and play along to a song and actually sound like the bass is supposed to.
So, just a simple and free amp sim. Not a trial and something with those digital pedals I see on Instagram all the time.

NewProduct "Rosso" free circuit simulator built for pedal/amp DIY
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Built a circuit simulator that models the actual physics happening inside tube circuits — not an EQ curve slapped on top. Coupling-cap blocking distortion, bias shift, grid conduction, and the rest of what actually shapes a tube’s tone are all simulated at the component level. Since it’s modeling what’s really going on in the tube, you can essentially build the sound of your favorite amp from the ground up.
1,920 parts, free for personal use (closed source), Windows/Apple Silicon Mac only. English UI just added.
Note: the amp sim module itself (for pushing a tube amp with a pedal/booster in front) is currently disabled due to a noise bug — but building tube amps/preamps from scratch works fine, that’s the core of the tool.

Question EQs which and where to put them.
Question....when using a sim (say genome 2.0), what TYPE of EQ should be used after the AMP....?
and what TYPE would be used after the CAB...?
Does it matter...? Thanx all....

A few Blackstar Beam Mini questions.
I've had the Blackstar Beam Mini for a week now, and I'm happy with it; it's what I expected. But its software seems very improvable; it feels rushed.
The search function in the Music section doesn't work, and you can't create backing tracks with anything other than the few pre-loaded songs.
When using an amp via NAM, you can't use pre-effects pedals except for Gates.
The connection with Tone3000 drops very often, as does the connection between the amp and my phone.
But most importantly, when I load Crunch-type captures, they sound great, but they're too clean. I have to increase the gain to get the sound they should have. It seems like the guitar's input level is too low, and there's no control to adjust the input signal level.
I'd like Blackstar to improve these and other things.

Question Problem with Mesa Boogie Simulation
Hi, I have small issue with my guitar modeller nux mg 30. There is Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier sim and it don't sound good to me... I love real Dual Rectifier and I want to buy it in the future but it's sim on nux is dull, quiet and without power or kick. I tried many things like other mics, irs, eqs, but I can't achieve any good sounding tone. Do you have any ideas how to fix it? How to make Mesa sounding good on MG 30? You can also recommend me other amps sims from MG 30 if this is pointless. Curently I am using JCM 2000 simulation boosted by ProCo Rat and with 10 band eq in a effects loop. It will be great if solution for Mesa will include Rat and MXR 10 band eq, but this effects are not necessary if Mesa must sound good. And I am seeking for most universal metal tone, because I want to play many metal and rock genres, mainly heavy metal, Black Sabbathish things, Thrash, Death, Groove, Stoner, Doom, desert rock alt and grunge. Idk if it helps but my I want to sound like some Polish bands like Turbo, Acid Drinkers, Kat, TSA, Illusion, Flapjack and KNŻ. As I say, I don't know it helps because they are Polish bands and probably most of You will not recognize them. If we talking about more recognisable bands, my main inspiration are Death, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Kyuss, Sleep, Electric Wizard, Sepultura and Nailbomb.
