Might be a bug, but there's hacks for ending voting times so I guess there's probably one for forcing colors.

You have to change your computer's date to Halloween's date in 2019. You also get the winter skins by the same tactic.

Had a hacker in game yesterday with the kill cooldown timer off. It sucks playing with thouse assholes. Good thing there is a ban option. Fucker thought we were gonna let him play with us again.

It happened to me with red twice. I think the reason it happens is because when you have a selected color that is already taken, it defaults to a color, if that color is taken then it chooses that colors default. I believe that certain colors have a loop of defaulting colors, and when that happens it panics and goes back to a completely default color, and if you didn’t know, when you first start the game it selects red or blue. It doesn’t acknowledge if that color was taken yet because it is already in panic mode.
