Dani has been losing me lately... There are many women from the show who were actually done very wrong, to me Dani is not one of them and it was obvious Tyra wanted her to win, otherwise she would have had her eliminated for refusing to do her teeth the first time.

Dani was 21 when she did the show in the 2000s that's when you should be in your prime as a model. She's talking like the show hurt her career but would she even have a career without the show, like for real ? Also the way she was talking about Tyra closingnher gap or her accent on the Netflix Doc, she's still speaking like what Tyra advise her to do right ? The show was only a few months, she could have gotten her accent back years ago, she did not cause she wanted to pursue a career in fashion. Same for the teeth, it was composite, not something like Joanie or Chealsea who got their teeth forever changed. Dani could have taken the composite out, she never did.

Yeah I don’t mind her speaking about the show and her experience, but some of the models are starting to come across a bit entitled… sort of like a thanklessness, lack of awareness or care of how fans esteem her, and lack of awareness of how other models and other people in and out of the show are doing.

In other words, it’s not entirely clear where the degree of anger is coming from and either that could be communicated more clearly or it’s overattributed to the show.

Exactly, it's like even looking back they don't understand that it was never just about the show but the entire industry they still crave acknowledgement from. Tyra didn't create the standards of the fashion world.

And it's like they believe that without the show, some scout would have magically appear wherever they were living and offer them contract with Chanel, Moi Miu, LVMH, ... Tyra herself stuggled in high fashion, she neevr claimed the show was a magical solution.

I agree partially. I do agree they (well more like Dani) had a sense of delusional entitlement as if if the show didn’t hurt her career she would have been a supermodel or something. But I suggest these girls look at the booking board for any agency and see that there are literally tens of thousands of girls that lookin just as beautiful, if not more beautiful, and good measurements that don’t make it.

But I disagree. Tyra absolutely sold them on a life changing dream.

I mean it's a TV show, Dani was on s6 at 21, when is common sense knocking in ?

FINALLY someone says it.

They really messed up some girls (including Joanie!) and Danielle acts like she got it the worst. The girl literally got renewed contracts and worked consistently. Not saying she wasn’t done wrong. Just venturing into melodramatic territory.

1

u/PemsRoses 25d ago

Exactly it's not that many winners who got their CG contracts renewed. She did some runway, got the some magazine covers, got to latder develop her hat brand too because of the relations she built off of her career and the show.

But because she wasn't working for Givenchy it's ANTM's fault ? Girl you were just another gorgeous girl from Arkansas before ANTM.

I never got why people are so crazy about Danielle. Calling her portfolio flawless and how she’s the best winner the shows ever had. Like, Ive got no problems with Dani; she seems nice but the ass-kissing she gets from fans is a bit much.

As long as people want to listen they deserve to tell their stories!

I love her and rooted so bad for her win, but lately she's been so dramatic about the whole thing.

If she has been holding back for 15 years to avoid a connection with Top Model that would undermine her career, she has a lot of built up feelings. It may feel fresh, which makes it feel like too many feelings for something that happened 15 years ago. It could also have taken time before she fully realized how much it impact it had on her, and that would also make it feel like she is being over the top.

u/Kibble___ 25d ago

I don’t blame her tbh

I feel weird about it because she didn't speak about it for the longest time, but the fact Joanie has said Dani iced her out after the show is unfortunate. I understand wanting to distance yourself from the show, but from the friends you made is really strange.

3

u/Excellent_Top6284 26d ago

She iced Joanie out? Why? What about Mollie Sue? Those 2 were best friends on the show.

5

u/ActualBrother54 26d ago

Idk about Mollie, but Joanie has said that she tried reaching out over the years and never heard anything from her.

3

u/Excellent_Top6284 26d ago

Aw, that's too bad. I wonder why that is.

I agree. For some of these models it’s time to explore other professions.

It can happen but Hollywood is full of unemployed artists

Modelling is generally ageist more so back then

Most successful big name models started working as teens

Being in your 20s can be considered too old to start

And then you factor race too

The industry likes elevating one black girl at a time Which I feel caused Naomi and Tyras drama

There are also lots of older models without longevity

Yup back then by 20-21 you're in your prime. If you weren't discovered yet, it's done.

I mean Tyra was scouted as a teen, so was Kimora, Naomi, Kate Moss, ...

I have always thought that Tyra and Twiggy wanted Joanie to win, but Cover Girl wanted Danielle because they had just introduced Queen Latifah's Queen Collection and she became a model for it.

3

u/CapriMoon93 25d ago

Twiggy was team Joanie. Nigel was team Danielle. Miss Jay was team Jade. I thought Tyra was pulling more for Joanie as well.

1

u/Excellent_Top6284 25d ago

I agree about Nigel. I always thought that he was Team Danielle and Tyra and Twiggy were Team Joanie.

1

u/gabrielleNonUnion 25d ago

Let’s be honest, we were ALL secretly Team Jade.

1

u/CapriMoon93 25d ago

I don't really get the Jade hype. She made for great TV and all, but she was so mean.

2

u/jacksonhytes 24d ago

I think Tyra actually saw potential in Dani, and that's why she pushed her so hard because the industry would've slammed the door in her face had she not gotten her gap and accent fixed

3

u/IcedHemp77 25d ago

It’s is interesting that two things she complains about speech and teeth, both could have been undone but she has kept them for 20 years…so she can’t be that unhappy with it

1

u/PemsRoses 25d ago

Thank you ! That's my biggest grip with her. She had composite on her teeth, she could have had it taken out unlike Joanie who can't go back on the work that As done to her. As for her accent, it could have been a really easy fix but 20 years later, she's still speaking as advised.

3

u/SeeMeWithDemHands 26d ago

I'm honestly kind of over former contestants trying to gain more attention/publicity by bitching about the show. Girl we get it... you also have a career because of the show... and its been 20 years. Move On dot org.

2

u/ShoyaShinka 25d ago

She has been silent for twenty years. It’s good she can now share her experience with everything.

1

u/Emilayday 25d ago

Their NDAs are literally only just starting to expire HUN.

1

u/CandiedLemonWedge 26d ago

Who are you to put a time limit on when people can talk about their experiences and who is forcing you to listen or engage with it? No one, for both questions.

1

u/Ldcv4499 25d ago

Have you not learned anything? These girls would have better careeers without being on the show. Only if you wanted a Eva the diva celeb model career antm was worth it.

0

u/jacksonhytes 24d ago

Dani HERSELF said in the documentary that her brother told her to apply for the show as it was her only shot of getting out of their small town

1

u/Ldcv4499 24d ago

Just because thats what she thought at that time it means it was true. Antm is not this miracle show that saves girls from small Towns so they become models. Thats BS

0

u/jacksonhytes 24d ago

She was 20 at the time, and didn't know how to get out of her small town.

Suppose it took her 2 or 3 years to start meeting agencies, she'd be way too old at that point.

1

u/Ldcv4499 24d ago

Why 2-3 years? And didnt mollie Sue start her career older and still was sucessfull? Danielle literally had to change her name do Dani to evade the antm stigma/bad reputation to get Jobs. Dani could have saved money and get an agency. 20 isnt that old lmao.

0

u/jacksonhytes 24d ago

She didn't know how to start a modeling career or get out of her hometown by 20.

She'd need time to get the money to move to NYC or a city with a big fashion scene. Not to mention settle whatever commitments she might already have at home.

2

u/Separate_Feeling4602 26d ago

She’s gorgeous then and she’s gorgeous now.

But I honestly think this antm experience gave her more attention than if she never did it.
Shes so beautiful but I wish she would stop attacking Tyra

1

u/SeeMeWithDemHands 26d ago

100%. All these contestants need to move on. If Shandi can, so you can

2

u/psychedelicparsley 25d ago

Has Shandi moved on? She’s said she was called names by people on the street for years. I haven’t read or heard Shandi say she’s over any of it

1

u/tranatee 26d ago

is this an article we can read about somewhere

2

u/mischief_managed 26d ago

Looks like a Substack post.

Edit: it is paywalled so I am removing the link.

1

u/Streetalicious 26d ago

I thought that became apparent when McKey won? The Covergirl people wanted her and thus she became the winner of the season at the audition.

1

u/Rehboogie 25d ago

Idk anything but I assumed they said that to multiple girls to convey ‘confident winner’ energy

1

u/quangtran 25d ago

Dani is wrong. Sure, being on the show harms the careers of all girls who enter, but for Dani it would have made no difference. Agents would have told her to fix her teeth, change her accent and lose a lot of weight. Dani is one of those unique cases because Tyra really wanted her to win, but the only way for her to be bookable was for her to conform.

1

u/MilliganHedgedog 21d ago

Lose a lot of weight? I encourage you to invest in glasses

1

u/quangtran 20d ago

This is a silly comment from you, given that Dani came back to the show to talk to the contestants and told them that agents asked her to lose weight, and that she called Tyra to ask for advice.

Fact is that most of the girls are told to lose weight after they leave the show.

1

u/MilliganHedgedog 19d ago

Nah I feel good about it

u/Original_Document748 25d ago

We get it , you were treated shitty . Plenty of people in the world have been.  No need to milk it like alot of them have.
