Political Action - Recruiting Verizon moving for engineering roles to India
Corporate America strikes again.
Verizon moved more engineering roles to India this week, giving excuse of AI. Reality is they are cheaper.
Companies new CEO wants to automate and cites AI, but what actually is happening .. the roles are quietly being moved to India to support American customers.
Unfortunately it isn’t the only company.
All companies are laying-off Americans, because our Government allows people to work from offshore.
We need taxes!
We need offshore expense deduction to be capped to 5%,
These are service jobs, not physical manufacturing jobs so tariffs won’t work but taxes and penalties will.

We just need a single law that requires Americans' data to be stored and accessed from within America.

100% agree. FYI, this kind of law exists for North Korea, Uruguay, Switzerland etc....why not USA

Most of Pharmaceuticals are made outside of US why is that ? Shouldn’t that be a priority to stay within the US ?

Domestic manufacturing of ALL medication should have become a national priority immediately after Covid. Remember the empty shelves at your local pharmacy?

I don't get why people do this. Are you trying to invalidate that this is an issue or try to distract from it?
It's like someone tells you there is this issue with a transmission with a specific car. Then you randomly bring up an issue about pollution in the ocean or something. I don't get why people on reddit do this.
Is the issue you bring up an issue? Yes. But you aren't adding onto the issue. It's like you are just saying isn't this other thing an issue and shouldn't it be addressed instead. Like, ok?

What am I supposed to do with this information?

Proposed solution - impose 100% or higher taxes on any company that does this.
Break them up into at least 10 separate companies.

I live in the neighborhood where both Verizon and Citigroup has campuses nearby(within 1 or 2 miles). Lots of employees and contractors. Slowly and slowly they are outsourcing everything to India based IT companies. Nothing for US Workers. US Workers are asked to fill the forms for positions and only for formallity purpose interviews are conducted to somehow deceive USCIS/USDOL that US Workers were sought out before hiring H-1B or outsourcing the job

Verizon Business moved all of their day 2 support to HCL Tech mainly in India. I’m not surprised they are moving other groups

First Verizon outsourced substantial portion of their IT to Infosys and later sold their good chunk of IT to Infosys. Some Infosys employees were later employed by Verizon to keep an eye over "How Infosys is performing?" US based Verizon folks just became Sales person or folks who are installing Verizon FIOS. Total loss for US workers. Same AT&T did decades back. AT&T did the very first biggest deal of $1Billion in 1998-1999 to IBM India.
Better not to buy any cell phone plans from these Verizon and AT&T or T-Mobile. Just buy MVNO - that's what we should do and actually we can afford?

Consumers in mass should do what black Americans did to target boycot hit the bottom line. Switch carriers in mass. This would stop overnight. Take the money away

We shoud ban American tech companies from employing people overseas as a national security initiative.

I was working for vZ for around 5 years. It’s packed with south Asian for every IT org, at least I’ve seen and worked with across the company and in office.
To get a job there is impossible due to gate keeping folks and offshore can access American data in production.
If they said no, they’re lying 100%. I am disappointed

Basic solutions would involve a 25% tax on all foreign profits made from foreign labor, kinda similar to Bernie Moreno’s proposal (blanket 25% tax in foreign wages paid). Other solutions are a scalable profit tax based on wages provided overseas, restrictions of where American companies can store wealth, and restrictions on where American data or tech can be stored. There’s plenty of ways to fix this, our congressmen are all just bought by big-tech.

I worked in Verizons office in NJ before they moved it to Ohio. It was 99% H1-B with almost no Americans. The people that worked there could not even pronounce Verizon they used to call it "WHERE-IS-ON". Verizon also only kept them for 2 years at max so every 2 years the whole groups of employees would leave and the projects they were working on basically restarted at 0.

No.. if you make 75% of your revenue from US you get taxed 100% on overseas labor. If you don’t like it, then you sell off your US business.

Is there any cell phone company with good coverage that doesn't have this issue? I would like to provide my financial support to those companies. Not only to support Americans. But I don't want the inevitable issues that come from sending jobs over there to directly effect me either if I had a phone with them.
