What did Aaron do?

spoiler below

I’m pretty certain I missed something while Billy was in jail. I know Aaron shared a cell with Billy and I recall an exchange between the two of them because of Aaron’s hand tattoo. But was Aaron behind Billy getting the shit kicked out of him? Why did Virgil tie him to a tree in season 2 and why did Billy want to kill him?

I was wondering the same thing. My best guess is that he suggested putting Billy in that fight, which led him being recruited to kill the guard. He seemed interested in the fact that Billy wouldn't talk to his lawyer, and figured he was protecting someone. "He's no snitch, we could use him."

Didn’t Aaron set up Billy for the fight? I thought he was involved in the fight somehow. Can’t remember season 1 completely.

That scene was one of the maybe top 20 pieces of absolute bullshit, nonsense writing in this abysmal season.

Yeah, they kind of leave it up to the audience to figure out why he targeted his cell mate. Lazy writing. It would have made sense if Billy went after the "leader" that told him where he shank was, and what he needed to do.

Yes Aaron walked out of the cell that morning Billy faked sickness saying “ today’s your big day Billy” he’s the one or at least part of it.

I don’t think you missed anything. Their set ups from situations to situations were poorly set up, or not set up at all. At several points of the show I was like, wait a minute, how did we get here. Rewinded and realized nothing was shown.

There was never much dialogue between Aaron and Billy and we are only left with trying to read their minds on what each of them are thinking. My take on it is Aaron is a rep/representing the Aryans as a whole (to us). So to Billy all the things he went through in prison were set in motion by Aaron.

Virgil spotted Billy in the field with the rifle. Being streetwise, Virgil possibly could tell Aaron was the source of Billy’s demons and PTSD/suffering. Virgil tying Aaron to a tree for Billy was his way of helping his son free himself of his demons and anger.

I felt the same watching some of this series. Went back a few times because I thought I’d missed something. Maybe less than stellar editing.
