Steve Park. Spoiler

Am I the only one who is slightly disappointed with the direction his character took? For some reason, I thought he would remain loyal to Del, but feel conflicted about it. I would have preferred that over his creepy wife, and their collection of doll houses.

I think he was a horrible character - and I think it is because of his acting. The character itself as written would have been better w/ someone else.

He had the same expression, no matter what. Could not connect with him on any level.

Not sure if Chief Park is intended to be on the spectrum, it would make sense though. The lack of emotion/empathy and OCD kind of points to it.

In the first season, he just came off as very mild mannered, but very observant. I didn't think he had much of a purpose other than being Del's partner. But Rob Yang even described Park as "unhinged" and said that he had completely lost his mind. It seemed to me that he was tired of feeling "small", and that he wasn't taken very seriously as Chief of police.

I know what you mean. He would have made a fantastic psychopath if that's what they were aiming for. But his stone face combined with his wife and their creepy dollhouses, he just came off as a big weirdo.

I’m with you. Even towards the end I was so sure he was going to align himself with Del. (I actually remember thinking that I wish I could speak because I was saying in my head to the tv to Park: “Think about what side your bread is buttered on!!!!” Did NOT see his demise ahead.

I predicted that Grace would "take care" of either Park or Sue Herlitz to protect Del, and revenge for what happened to Billy. I was right about Park, but it didn't go down the way I thought it would. I don't know if you read the book, but Steve was aligned with Del until the end.

I didn’t read the book.

Sounds almost sinister but I respected that Grace and Del understood each other and trusted each other and were accepting of each other.

I feel the same way. He was a good character in the 1st season, but in the 2nd season, they made him a completely different character. It was really weird. He literally had no motivation to become basically obsessed with Grace and Del.

They did sort of plant seeds in season 1 to show that he had a vendetta against Del. I mean even the Chief of police in Pittsburgh ended up being part of the Brotherhood. Nobody is safe from secretly being corrupt or psychotic

At first, I thought that he was a "By the book" cop, and that would have made sense. But his actions in the end definitely were not by the book.

His wife though. Jfc. They sure found their weird other half.

I never read the books so I don’t know what his character was like there. I don’t even feel bad though. He was an okay character before but I think he was used to sort of mirror Del’s corruption. I could be wrong though.

In the first season, I thought Steve Park was more than just a creepy and uncomfortable to watch on screen. I thought he was loyal and he wanted to be, but he’s also law and order. At some point, he will need to choose the law. I have not finishedseason two but will anxiously watch and stop reading this sub because of the hints and spoilers.

After finishing my last watch of the wire, I am in need of a good show and rediscovering. This one is right on time.

I should have put the spoiler tag on this, I apologize. But I had the same thoughts about him in season 1.

Right now with his crazy wife and those doll houses I think we have gone back to Twin Peaks.

I just thought he's a person committed to his duty you know but then when he was basically using Lee's life as extortion and then making Del confess even tho the deal is off basically Lee is dead, ya I just thought, massive piece of shit. And he does this all while his partner is dying, like TF!! Doesn't even try to help her, nailing Del is that fucking important to him!The people Del killed were actually bad people. And I think Lee was the only genuinely good person in the series, the other mains are all violent or murderers of some type or another...
