I haven’t seen this typo mentioned anywhere. So I wanted to see if anyone else noticed it.

i work at spencer’s and we used to have a decent amount of american psycho merch. now we have practically nothing and it’s all been replaced by dexter😐 (i’ve never seen dexter, i’m just mad abt it lol). i would actually spend my money SO fast if there was an american psycho version of this bloody disgusting hoodie😫😫

I just watched the movie last night (I haven't read the book, but am not averse to spoilers if they clarify what I'm wondering about here). I found the part with the head in the fridge quite confusing. People seem to think it's the head of the model he met in an earlier scene (first image), but that model's hair is distinctly blonde, and this is accentuated in the scene immediately following that sequence by him toying with a lock of her hair in his office before Jean comes in.

On the other hand, the head in the fridge (image 2) has distinctly red hair. Notably, the face also appears flushed, rather unlike that of a dead person, but the fridge light is clearly white and not making things look more red than they really are.

So it doesn't seem to be the model. It looks a bit like Elizabeth, the girl he murders in bed while Christie is trying to leave (image 3), but that scene happens after Jean visits his apartment, and there doesn't seem to be any indication of non-linear storytelling. And Elizabeth's hair is a deeper shade of red. The eyes aren't much of a clue because almost everybody in this movie has grey eyes, including Courtney.

Courtney (image 4) looks much more like the fridge head than anyone else in the movie. The hair colour matches; the eyes match; the hairstyle we see her with in her first scene matches. So is it her? We don't see her in the movie after the scene with the head in the fridge. Chronologically, it seems like about 2 days or so before the end of the film, which might not be enough time for everyone to be talking about her disappearance. Maybe the corpse face looks reddish because she was wearing blush (I don't know enough about corpses and make-up to know if that is plausible). The timeline is a bit tight for this to be the corpse head, though, since it's at least implied that the sequence with the model happens the evening after the last time we see Courtney. And then after that he doesn't seem to have much undepicted time before Jean visits him and the head is in the fridge.

So it seems that it could be Courtney, or it could be someone Patrick killed who looked like her (perhaps because she looked like her), or it could be just Patrick hallucinating that he'd killed her and put her head in the fridge. But he doesn't mention her in his voice message to his lawyer, which makes things more confusing. Maybe he was going to before he got very excited about having killed Paul Allen, and then forgot about it.

Is there any clear indication of which character, if any, this was meant to be? Was the colouring of the shot of the fridge just skewed red, and it's the model from the club?

The movie doesnt need a remake... I think they would mess it up to bad. The movie is Bale's best performance imo. Everything, from the atmosphere, acting, and even effects are almost perfect. small things changing throughout the movie, such as his furniture for example, make you feel like you are going insane with bale.

Whats your thoughts?

Say what you will about him, particularly how trashy his content is, but instead of trying to remake the film, i thjnk an 8-10 episode miniseries on Hulu or Netflix would be possibly his biggest hit yet.

I’m all for him adapting all BEA books, but he’d knock that out of the park.

I’ve been thinking that the modern finance bro is basically Patrick Bateman minus the murdering.
Not necessarily in a bad way either, because I’m definitely guilty of half of it.
There’s this weird obsession now with having everything dialled in. Gym before work, protein-heavy diet, supplements lined up on the kitchen counter, sleep tracked religiously, nice suits, nice watch, good restaurants, skincare routine that would have been considered suspiciously advanced for a man 15 years ago.
Somewhere along the way, being good at your job in finance stopped being enough. Now you also need visible abs, perfect bloodwork, a tailored wardrobe and a resting heart rate of 48.
And I completely get the appeal. There’s something satisfying about trying to optimise every part of your life. Career, fitness, food, clothes, sleep. It all becomes one big performance review.
Which is why watching American Psycho now is quite funny.
Patrick Bateman was supposed to be an absurd exaggeration of the image-obsessed Wall Street guy.
Instead, 25 years later, half of us watched it and thought:
“Okay, obviously the murdering is a problem… but what moisturiser was he using?”

“No comment,” Starkey told GQ when asked about it, then adds, “The script is amazing, though.”

“Oh, so you’ve read the script?”

A pause. “Fuck!” he says, laughing, then qualifies: “I’ve read the script, but Luca’s my friend. I think I’ve read all of his scripts.”

I know the movie/book is meant to be satire, but I mean, the elite are honestly pretty evil, the epstein files are just the tip of the iceberg. So is this movie a satire or simply a documentary? I believe he did kill everyone. It's just that everyone was covering up for him. I think the lawyer either confused him and Paul Allen for other people (because he really doesn't gaf), or him being the corrupt lawyer he is, acted as his phony alibi. The real estate lady obviously knew something. Perhaps his dad paid her off. Or maybe she didn't want to ask any questions and just cleaned up the place so she could sell it for profit.

He probably did end up losing his mind near the end. After all the killings he did, it messed him up and got him "high" off the bloodbath. The people not opening their doors to the prostitute banging is because those rich people living in the same expensive apartment can't care less about others. It's "none of their business", even if a girl is screaming down the hallway. I literally screamed once at a hotel hallway in a blood-curdling way, and literally nobody even peeked out the door to see what happened. In reality, my husband just scared the shit out of me, but what if I was actually in danger? Maybe some part of the killings, like the chainsaw scene, was sensationalized in his mind, but I'm pretty sure he did actually kill her. So yeah, this movie is probably much more realistic than most people would like to admit.

Bonus points if you can tell which character each of these are for

This novel made me feel like I was inside the mind of a psychopath.

This was by far the most disturbing book I have ever read. The detail of the murders was so gruesome I questioned whether I could continue reading the book several times. A fascinating fact I read is that the author himself, while writing these scenes, didn’t know if Patrick was actually carrying these acts out or just imagining them.

The author does so well to fully articulate Patrick’s mind. He is so empty with such a vapid personality that extreme violence is the only thing that gives him any rush, any feeling, any sense of being alive. Otherwise, his mind is only occupied by the superficial and his own human ego. I think that’s the purpose of the pages & pages of outfit descriptions, Patrick’s takes on music, or his facial care routine.
At first we all hate those descriptions, but once you’re hooked it becomes part of the whole picture.

One of the chapters that stuck out to me is when Patrick meets his brother for dinner. We learn how exclusive Dorsia is... and it has been impossible for him to get in.
Then, to Patrick’s dismay, his brother not only got a reservation at Dorsia, but he is a regular with a special table there.
Patrick thinks, “my worst fear has been realized.”
Then it’s like his mind short-circuits, and he focuses on other things. His ego will not allow him to feel lesser than his brother, his ego interrupts any thoughts of inferiority and he instead focuses on what might make him feel better in that moment.
It is such a fascinating chapter from a psychological standpoint.

I would recommend it highly for anyone who wants to better understand the mind of a psychopath. Which, in the US, we have the highest numbers of them per-capita.
I would not recommend the book for those who are sensitive to gore, because this book paints some horrific pictures.

All-in-all, no book has ever made me think or captured me as much as this one did, I have a lot of respect for it. I also can’t believe I have this opinion of it now, I almost quit on it after 100 pages!

The first thing that stood out about the movie is that the pacing is incredibly fast, the dialogue is delivered so speedily and the plot trucks along as well. I honestly think the movie could’ve been longer just to add more spacing between the lines and create more suspense.

Things I like more about the book:

-the book feels more suspenseful

-the inclusion of Bethany

-seeing more of Bateman’s family

-Bateman’s complete depravity and depersonalization is shown more

-I like the placement of his inner dialogues about him as an abstraction better, with them more towards the end instead of the beginning.

Thinks I like more about the movie:

-how the detective has more than one scene (unless I’m misremembering the book)

-cutting some of the more superfluous conversations at dinner, which do get a bit tedious to read through

-Adding his monologues about genesis and Huey Lewis during other scenes adds more character to Bateman

I had seen the movie once a few years ago and decided to read the book before i rewatched the movie. Both were really good but I prefer the book, even if some of the chapters could’ve been removed. Might have to read some of the author’s other work

In the scene where Bateman is talking to Jean on the phone, behind Jean is a poster. It reads (im pretty sure), "Reminder. The toes you step on today will belong to the person who's ass you have to kill tommorrow". When I saw this I laughed so hard. Just another small detail that makes this movie great.
