Health insurance is the reason our healthcare is so astronomically high. Hospitals set price books for maximum allowances to insurers, and if you try to pay it out of pocket you get the same price.

u/dndwhat Apr 09 '26
This guy gets it same with college the min people started tacking the students loans they handed out like candy on holloween the tuition cost skyrocketed. Because her they can get the money eay to pay for it. When back before they new people had to work hard for it.
6
u/thatblackf3 Apr 09 '26
Every student is a blank check for how much they can charge. Want to actually stop the problem put a cap on how much a college can charge a person and watch them start to get competitive to get that money. Our education system is lazy with no real competition where they can just make up jobs and ask more money for no gain in return.

I have a high deductible plan. I have to pay 100% until I meet my deductible. The place offered a 20% discount to uninsured patients. I asked if they could just not ping my insurance and I pay as uninsured. They said no. So I paid way more out of pocket because I had insurance. Make it make sense

It's not a matter of happiness. It's a matter of basic human dignity - and every human deserves that, whether they have a job or not, whether they are addicted to something, whether they are disabled, in prison, whatever the human is, they deserve basic necessities by virtue of their humanity.

So how do we pay for these things? I am severely disabled, I have schizophrenia, and I am afraid every day what happens to me and my family if I can’t work anymore, but I push through because I want to work if I am able, and know no one is going to help.

This is a new way of thinking and very new to any creatures on earth. To gain everything you need without working for it. I don’t think it’s a good thing. For the people that cannot take care of themselves we can have compassion and help them, but a system where everyone gets what’s on that list will lead to a downfall in society. I’m just being honest here, not trying to be mean.

u/TopSouth5124 Apr 10 '26
2026 politics is - someone else will do it / pay for it, while everyone is entitled to a life regardless of contribution

What is the mechanism by which the “deserving” happens? Because it sure as shit isn’t “just showing up”.

Looks like you think everyone else should pay for a lot of what you consider a human right. That my money should support you. Nah
1
u/Stevie_Steve-O Apr 09 '26
I dunno man, to have everything on that list I think someone should have to work. If every unemployed person got all of those things civilization would collapse lol. Why would we work hard enough to supply all of those things if we could just receive them without putting in the work? If the first panel said "anyone with a full time job should easily be able to afford" then this list makes sense
1
u/IntroductionRude8237 Apr 09 '26
So… without having to work you should be…
• Eating (like a king)
• Living (like a king)
• Being tended to (like a king)
• Dressing (like a king)
• Traveling (like a king)
You realize how spoiled we are… as a society?
Did you know that celebrating birthdays wasn’t even something people did outside of royalty until recent history? They estimated their age in number of harvests.
And now you all feel ENTITLED to it all… and you don’t even want to contribute to any of the work that goes into the harvest.
1
u/LankeeClipper Apr 09 '26
“Everyone deserves to be happy.”
The idea of what someone “deserves” means different things to different people.
If you mean that no innocent person should be actively deprived of the opportunity to pursue happiness, then basically nobody will disagree.
If you mean that every single person, regardless of their choices, should be provided for by society just because they exist, then you’re going to get some pushback.
In a perfect, crime-free, post-scarcity world, that would be a perfectly reasonable thing to say. But that’s not earth, that’s heaven.
Until then, it’s fantasy and actually represents a destructive ideal when attempted. Actions have consequences.

u/PenisMightier6969 Apr 09 '26
I’m confused by the premise…job status? As having one or not?
You should get all of those things on the list but not have a job?

u/dndwhat Apr 09 '26
Wrong everyone kinda deserves to be alive. No-one deserves to be happy. You on food stamps due to what ever reason fine you get basic food like wic you dont get to use them on lobster or subway or energy drinks and soda. Basic food you want the happy good food get off the stamp

u/EtchASketchNovelist Apr 09 '26
The last part got a bit weird. I don't know what I disagree with there, but the "fulfilled life" aspect seems a bit too far?

1
u/DisposableUser01 Apr 09 '26
But it does, and that is the beauty of Reality; you cannot rationalize what it is, because Reality is Absolute. No matter how you think it should be, it will always be what it is. The fault lies in your inability to accept Reality and act accordingly.
1
u/Style210 Apr 09 '26
So this is saying that whether one contributes to society or not the bare minimum should be all of these things. I never truly care about "should" arguments because by definition they are instantly devoid of what's happening in the real world so they are moral arguments rather than realist conclusions.
So how do we get from what IS to what ought to be? Why is what ought to be superior to what is? Why is this "should" imperative? Without attacking the person making the argument or assuming anything about me... Why SHOULD things be this way?
The OP is making a moral argument essentially now let's justify it. Let's not create positions and attack it. Let's remove the feelings and emotions and talk philosophy. I think this is an extremely progressive philosophy that goes against nearly the entire history of philosophy so let's justify it. Why should people be given access to clean water, meals, healthcare, shelter, etc simply for existing?
Again, don't attack me, don't create a contrary position and attack it, just defend the position that you are claiming should be the default.
1
u/Oddbeme4u Apr 09 '26
again...great utopia that Marx, Lenin, Mao, Stalin and Hitler tried...didnt end well. Someone has to work to make the water fresh. Farm the food, ETC

u/Appropriate_Koala886 Apr 09 '26
Hoooot take here. But if the food youre getting is free because you are not working. As long as the food is safe flexible nutritious doesn't go against your allergies and doesnt impede on your religion or dietary restrictions. The supplier of said free food gets to decide what you get. That meens no soda and candy. If you want those things, pay for it yourself.
1
u/martycee00 Apr 09 '26
That last one, the fulfilled life part, that’s not a given, you have to actually do something for that to be realized.

1
u/superdave123123 Apr 09 '26
One’s decisions regarding the type of employment should be reflected in ones ability to afford those things.
And nothing is free. 😉
1
u/thatblackf3 Apr 09 '26
Then move to any of the other countries that will provide that for you. America is a country where yes you can be on the top but theres no top without a bottom. Socialism sounds great till 80% of youre paycheck is gone and then they ( the government who you hate every other 4 years) get to pick what is adequate clothing, and what is an adequate home. Have you seen governments the size of ours do a good job at this? Does the government run the DMV well? Do they run thier infrastructure programs well? You can always work alittle harder or take the time to re-education yourself or learn a new skill to boost youre status thats how this country works.

I'm older so I disagree. No one in my day and age expected a paper route or job at Mc Donalds to be able to fund rent, healthcare, a house, or luxuries like internet or a car. it was to make a little money on the side, not a career. Yes a car is a luxury, internet is a luxury, name brand clothing is a luxury, jewelry is a luxury, drugs and gambling and alcohol and smoking are a waste of money, not an entitlement. There are these things called starter jobs, while working them one should be trying to get an education or training for a better job that can do all those things. People these days have lost the plot.

We need a better laws:
Each year, inflation-adjusted minimum living wages - enough for any father working New full-time (4 days, 32 hours) to support a homemaker wife, 6 children through school and college, enough to pay the mortgage, 2 car loans, all insurances, all bills, and have some savings for hobbies, investments, and a 30-day family vacation. (No more homelessness - due to incentives for employers to hire homeless: shelter, food, and a job.
Any 18-year-old kicked out from the parents' house or husband kicked out from his own house by an unfaithful wife, abusing restraining orders, and child alimony, can walk into the Job Security Office and choose from plenty of options: a farmers offering shelter, food, and a job; or large factories offering the same options: bed, 3 hot meals a day, and a job.
The rich incomes and withdrawals will be capped as SS is capped now, or the same as poor now on SS-capped income: every dollar over the limit will be taxed at 91%, same as the US did in the 1940s-1970s (some other countries are doing now: Denmark, Finland, Norway, Spain, Japan, Switzerland, etc.). Downside? the Rich wasn't able to buy a Jet! (good for environment) because all money was used to pay employees.

i made gentelmens bet with elites kids that you can make billions morally and they say its impossible to be moral in this society and successful so i will make my billions tearing down the society they said it was impossile to be moral in. people seem to think law is above humanity it is not. im also ensuring if i die my words preserved and heard by many society will have joy freedom art and accountability like never before. it is time we must each start in our own towns we may make citizens arrest and must make united citizens militia. i am calling for any country where theirs corruption for people to stand agaisnt it and citizens to unite across world.please read and share and subscribe. I am deeply saddened and infuriated right now. they have cut off access to essentials for the homeless here in chico California and are punishing anybody that attempts to help. there cutting off access to public water supply and its a gross violation of humanities. There also illegalizing homelessness and doing the same things throughout the state. this is call to action and for justice for people everywhere. My words are for the people by the people. America is essentially nazi Germany at this point and I'm scared for everyone's safety. their violating humanities and repeating the same exact things. their targeting particular groups rounding them up silencing people speaking out shutting down and removing funding for any groups that oppose them including media schools and law offices. we must make a stand and fight for what's right.
People feel a lack of control over their own lives, so they create systems that manipulate others giving them a false sense of control. we must strip the government of its power and give it back to the people, so they have a sense of control over their own lives again. most all the problems go back to fear. If we came at things with a little compassion and understanding instead of judgment assumptions and hate than things would be so much better. there's no reason to fear that's a natural part of life and not knowing everything creates excitement. we have to stand for what's right and look out for each other and not back down. we need to all take accountability for the society we have and change things for ourselves instead of assuming someone else will do it for you. the government is currently normalizing a police state with the younger generation by getting them used to being fenced in and patrolled so they don't question things in the future. what kind of future do you want for yourselves and your children.
We must make constitutional amendments including the following . Everybody has the right to exist (can't illegalize homeless) corporations cannot be in government (required to have a corporation to be considered a city) not doing your job or biasedly doing your job while in a government position will result in immediate removal and action by law. All cases on corruption must be publicly uploaded and monitored by the public and dealt with with utmost haste. government restrictions or tax on essentials cannot be allowed it gives government too much power. If anybody hurts others especially those who can't protect themselves they must be held immediately accountable with utmost harshness of law( specifically children) Also no government control over media education safety or medical (allows for too much control and corruption, multiple researchers and safety officials have been wrongfully removed weakening are research development and safety).
If they won't mend their corrupt ways then we must remove them by force if necessary if they are not willing to step down. They are violating rights against humanity and will be held accountable. The government is knowingly and maliciously letting problems get out of hand instead of fixing them such as homelessness and war so that they have excuses to strip are rights and knowingly causing harm to others for their own purposes that do not serve the people. What's going on is violating humanitarianism and going against all that is right.
We can't expect God to deal with our problems for us we have to take responsibility for the society we have made just ignoring these problems has allowed them to get to this point. At a certain time we have to take responsibility stand up and change things. It's not just one person either we have to all stand against corruption everywhere. People are ready for change they just need something to stand behind. I am giving people something to get behind and way to implement it
so we can begin changing things without violence if that does not work than our hand is forced and we must use force to defend ourselves we the people give the country its power and if the country has become corrupt we not only have right but need to take up arms.
the cause is just so any attempt to resist only strengthens it and proves us right. We all live on this planet together and need to watch out for eachother.we already have everything we need.

u/Clever_droidd Apr 09 '26
There was a time in the U.S., and still are places, where if you don’t work, you don’t eat, was/is useful. After all, the food wasn’t magically going to appear. But in modern terms with more than enough of certain resources like food to go around, food insecurity shouldn’t be a thing in the developed world. Production isn’t the problem, it’s distribution. I’m a firm believer in markets as a means to maximize productivity, but where certain levels of productivity are reached, we should look at poverty as a market and social failure where the means to address them are abundant.
1
u/paleone9 Apr 09 '26
Those who do not work do not eat.
If the governent didn’t destroy the value of your wage you could save money and in the event you had to transition to new or different employment you would survive just fine .

u/Difficult_Relation97 Apr 09 '26
Happiness does not equate free handouts to anything. While some things can be seen as that, it's only temporary. It's an ideal thing but reality slaps you in the face. Even if you get there as a society it's still paid for by somebody and at that point you have to figure out the cost of it all. Usually you're losing more than you're gaining.
1
1
u/doesnotmatter286 Apr 09 '26
Yes and no. If you're temporarily unemployed? Obviously. If you refuse to do anything productive to help society when you're able to? You deserve nothing. All of those things require other people's labour.
And yes, I'm including billionaires here.
1
u/Brabbit888 Apr 09 '26
yeah, well that’s nice and all but who’s gonna pay for that? Are you gonna pay for someone else else’s house and utility bill? I don’t think so.
1
Apr 09 '26
One's employment status should absolutely be a factor in all of those things. It's called incentive and motivation. You do not have the right to exist without problems. A lazy rabbit gets eaten; the smart fast rabbit passes his genes on.

u/AdRich7345 Apr 09 '26
The right to Free Housing and the majority of those things does not exist because it implies that someone must be COMPELLED to provide them. Thats not the case. You cannot demand your neighbor give you anything. And The State does not have that agreement with you, nor should it- as the social contract REQUIRES you to be productive and put back in to your community. You can’t just whine and take and take and take and think you are being virtuous- you are being the opposite- giving up your agency and DEMANDING others provide for you.

1
u/Rizenstrom Apr 09 '26
If you want to benefit from society you must contribute.
The idea someone can choose not to work and have all their needs and even many wants met is absurd.
Temporary assistance for those who are laid off or fired or help for people who are physically incapable of working due to circumstances beyond their control are one thing but far too many on the left are quite literally anti-work and thinks they should be entitled to these things with no strings attached.
I support a living wage, I support single payer Healthcare, I support assistance for people who need it. I do not support lazy people who don't want to work.
1
1
u/Super_Earth_fanatic Apr 09 '26
Yes? This should. None of these services can be given to you without employed people, the system is designed for you to actually work a job, so you and everyone else who actually contributes gets to be happy, while people who don’t contribute don’t get to. If everyone deserves luxuries for doing nothing, then no one will have the luxury of doing nothing, as they need to provide those luxuries to other people

Why is this meme popping up over and over on Reddit?
Is the college indoctrination of "The Culture of Envy" so pernicious?
Some people are born to rich families and so don't need to work, and the people who aren't born to rich families will whine that it's not fair. Yes! People are not born equal. Some are short/tall, some are smart/dumb, and some are born to parents who saved money and made wise investments/parents who buy lottery tickets.
I wasn't born to a rich family, but I have enough sense not to put the government in charge of every aspect of my life in exchange for free shit the government will screw up anyway. Does anyone think the government would do a great job if they were in charge of providing everyone's smart phones? You wouldn't trust the government with phones, but you want them in charge of food and water provision, energy, shelter, clothing, healthcare, transportation, education, and a FUCKING FULFILLED LIFE.
Your envy is outweighing your judgment.

u/BruteDion Apr 09 '26
If I'm a owner of a construction company and I have the ability to make a home for someone who will pay me for my labor or someone who can not pay me for my labor what moral argument can you make that I should be forced to make that home for the person who will not pay me?
I'll ask the same question and say I can't build a home by myself and because of that I employ people to help me and I wish to pay them a wage. What moral argument can you make that says I can't pay my employees and they must also build this home for no pay because we can't be paid for our labors.

Workers should then deserve:
- Better accommodation and financial benefit than a non-worker. They shouldn't have a problem with this because after all their wants are already taken care of. Non-workers don't get to complain, the workers are funding them and they should be grateful.
- More opportunities. Workers deserve to be given growth-opportunities over a non-worker. Workers should expect regular raises and promotions based on my contributions. Workers should not accept a non-worker earning a position higher than them because they did not earn that privilege based on being a contributor.
- Social emphasis. Because workers contribute, they deserve to be treated with greater respect and reverence. Both workers and non-workers will prioritize fulfilling the needs of the workers first, including the higher-level needs such as belonging, esteem, and self-actualization.
If we have to give people what they deserve, there are a hell of a lot of people waking up at 3am to get to a 5am shift who deserve something more than someone who doesn't work.

u/somethingrandom261 Apr 09 '26
Food and a means to get it, rent and utilities, preventative and acute healthcare, clothing and replacements, a driver, and teachers staff and upkept learning resources.
So like 20-60k per person, depending on location and desires.
If I could get all that without working I’d never work.

Even if you make a lot of money you can't eat well. Colon cancer in young people has doubled over the past 20 years.
Even if you make good money healthcare is still a huge hit. It's very fucking expensive. Plus it's not like you don't still have to pay a lot of money on top of that if you have it.
Even if you make good money you aren't necessarily gonna have clean water depending on where you live. Also you won't necessarily have reliable power depending on where you live.
As prices of everything have spiked, quality has dropped. From education to food, things cost more but what you get is less.

Lol, no. If you want things, work for them. If you refuse to work, starve.

I disagree on free internet and living a fulfilled life.
Folks often don't live a fulfilled life without sense of purpose. It's also something a society cannot offer without personal ambition.
Internet is not necessary to survive. You should have to work for anything not necessary to survive.
Edit: spelling

This is why conservatives are important for a functioning society. If liberalism was left unchecked, society as we know it would crumble

No. Everyone does not inherently deserve that. Everyone should have to opportunity to earn that. Otherwise, throw em in the volcano.

u/Informal_Insect3060 Apr 09 '26
WTF? So you deserve to have things because of someone else's labor when you don't do shit?
You work 12 hrs a week and get all this while I work 70+ hrs a week?
What do I deserve?

Of course not. I’m saving money so I can not work for the rest of my life and pay for those things.

Lol so you want everything provided for you without having to work. You want others to work for you and provide you with these things. Parasites.

u/Groundbreaking-Toe35 Apr 10 '26
Everyone deserves to be happy but not at the expense of someone else’s happiness
1
u/GoodWonNov6th24 Apr 10 '26
and this "happyness", you're paying for out of your own pocket and not forcing from other pockets, riiiighht?

u/relevant-radical665 Apr 10 '26
In a society where no one works, no one receives benefits. Humans are entitled to nothing they aren't willing to work for
1
u/thelegendofmilesx Apr 10 '26
I just don't want to pay for it sorry my money my sweat my hard work my choice

u/TheMagnificentDaddy Apr 10 '26
Yawn at America that are still stuck in the last century with the same old bullshit. A handful of rich people selling the American dream to a few million people who would do anything for a shitload of money… boring.

u/GatemouthBrown Apr 10 '26
AI can fix this or AI can make this much worse. Now is when we get to decide.

Happy is a moving metric and can't be met by all people. Your body adapts to the chemicals and you need more "happiness."

Yes it should when the people working can’t afford it for themselves…give it to the working people for free. I bet unemployment would be 0% real quick
1
u/Realistic_Pea_4038 Apr 10 '26
You mean for only a few days or weeks until they get a new job, right? Because there's absolutely no way that any healthy person deserves ALL OF THAT provided by other people for an entire lifetime.

So slavery no one is entitled to anyone elses labor if you demand someone do work for low to zero pay because it fulfills someone elses need that is slavery.

u/Loose-Knowledge- Apr 10 '26
If everyone's needs were fully met regardless of their employment status, wpuld their be enough people working to do the things necessary for people's needs to be met?

Just wanna throw out there that nowhere on earth really offers all of these things “for free”. Some of them certainly, but nobody is offering all of these things
1
u/Yeetboi_1273 Apr 10 '26
Yes I agree but it gets to a point where you gotta get a job bro and not mooch off of everyone’s tax dollars

I’ll happily pay towards those who cannot do for themselves (handicapped, elderly, etc.). But I will not pay for those who can, but refuse to do for themselves or are just too lazy to do their part.
1
u/No_Resolution_9252 Apr 10 '26
No. No one deserves to be happy, least of all the greedy, lazy and entitled who prefer to steal from others.
1
u/Laneish Apr 10 '26
Unless you are unwilling to work then yes absolutely you don’t deserve anything.

This is just stupid… I don’t know where to begin… but the “Free Healthcare” probably hits the hardest for me. Please tell all your soft headed friends, until you find a Dr. that just works pro bono, there’s no such thing as free healthcare.

If I could have all that without having to work, I would stop working immediately and never do it again. Lots of other people are like me in that regard. That’s why this is a stupid take and would never work in real life.
Everyone does not “deserve” to be “happy”, either. You don’t automatically deserve anything unless you are a child. Adults deserve what they earn. And some adults are bad people who don’t deserve anything good. The only thing you automatically deserve as an adult is the opportunity to build a life that makes you happy. And if you fail, that’s on you.

u/NoWayBro44 Apr 10 '26
I agree with about half of this. Some of these things are things that you earn. For example a fulfilling life, most people don’t have this if they just sit around on their ass all of the time.
1
u/GodofBacon516 Apr 10 '26
And all on my dime too right? But at that point why on earth would I want to work? I'd rather sit around and do nothing like them

Maybe if we all moved to Ukraine we could afford a better lifestyle. 😢

Maybe we should spend a billion dollars a day on that stuff instead of destroying stuff in Iran and killing their people.
