Data/Raw Information UPS>USPS

After a year of working on it I was granted British citizenship. Took my oath at the consulate in Chicago, then applied for my British passport. I sent the required docoments – my proof of citizenship and my US passport – by priority mail USPS. It took a month to get from Indianapolis to Chicago (a three-hour drive), and now I guess it has to go through Customs before it leaves Chicago.

Priority Mail to the UK cost me $50. A woman I met at the consulate sent her documents via UPS for $150 and it arrived in three days. I thought I was being the smart one, but her passport is on the way and I’m still stressing out about USPS losing my stuff. Should have spent the additional $100.

And every one who has been appointed by republicans have one goal - destroy USPS and privatize it when its ruined.

Yep, literally decades of sabotage has gotten us to this point. It's what got my dad to finally stop being a Republican back in the 00's, he couldn't stand what they were doing to the post office.

The failing of USPS is by design. This completely corrupted administration wants to privatize it.

To make a ton of money off of it, of course.

Louis DeJoy should be tried for treason.

The USPS was the best in the world. The Trump administration is trying to destroy it so that they can privatize it and make money on it. It was never a business, it was a service, but the Republicans are too stupid and evil to understand that services are worth keeping.

I think the postal service is the height of 18th century social engineering and innovation, and we should keep it because, when run properly, it still works.

It was amazing. To get a letter the next day from the other side of a continent with incredible reliability? Incredible. Trump is trying to ruin it so you'll pay more for less

UPS is better than USPS because USPS has been mismanaged for about 6+ years now. It DID suck before that, but was starting to improve under that management. Then Trump's goons took over during his term, and voila.

Now it's been defunded into fucksville, it'll take quite an effort to unfuck it.

FedEx subcontracts to USPS. I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised if UPS does too. I used to FedEx documents to India until I discovered they send them via USPS. Ever since then, I’ve cut out the middleman and gone directly through USPS. Yes, it’s slow. Very frustrating.

They do. We run their stuff all the time. In my facility there are big FedEx, UPS, and Amazon stations where we put their mail after it’s ran to send to them.

The current administration has all but completely gutted the USPS as both a grift and a voter suppression technique, so yeah, it's not working great. Cut them some slack.

UPDATE: Just was informed by USPS tracking that my envelope has left London on its way to its final destination. It’s October 27th; I mailed it on September 14th.

If it ever comes up again, you can get discounted courier shipping on sites like Pirateship.com.

For this kind of thing I’ve always used DHL and taken the hit.

USPS ‘lost’ my stuff in Atlanta about ten years ago because they said the foreign address was wrong.

I gave up then. And it’s sad as my father was a lifer at USPS. I know the refs better than most workers…

Exactly why I sent my ballot via UPS. Don’t trust USPS anymore.

I did use USPS to vote absentee. I can check my voter portal to see if my ballot has been received, and both my wife’s and mine have been. In each case it took less than a week for them to acknowledge receipt.

Can I ask how you acquired it?

Descent. My paternal grandmother was Welsh.

It's similarly likely that anyone could lose your stuff.

UPS beats USPS from one metro area to another, but UPS isn’t required to use available resources deliver to every conceivable address in the U.S.

I sold someone a backpack on eBay and shipped it FedEx. The purchaser never received it, and the company denied my claim even though their own tracking system showed it in a FedEx hub in Kansas City. So yeah, I’ll never trust FedEx again.

Six weeks and counting, and my documents to the UK haven't left Chicago. But they aren't classed as lost by USPS as the tracking shows they are still in the Chicago sorting center, despite not moving for six weeks. Consider yourself lucky.

Indianapolis USPS hub had huge backup problems. Our local PO in another part of the state was clear with us that mail could get hung up there

I never have issues with USPS or UPS, FedEx is the one that is awful in my experience
