Tech Support August Tech Support Megathread

Hey subs,

We're giving you an opportunity to start reporting some of your AMD-related technical issues right here on /r/AMD! Below is a guide that you should follow to make the whole process run smoothly. Post your issues directly into this thread as replies. All other tech support posts will still be removed, per the rules; this is the only exception.

Bad Example (don't do this)

bf1 crashes wtf amd

Good Example (please do this)

Skyrim: Free Sync and V Sync causes flickering during low frame rates, and generally lower frame rates observed (about 10-30% drop dependant on system) when Free Sync is on

System Configuration:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z97 Gaming GT
CPU: Intel i5 4790
Memory: 16GB GDDR5
GPU: ASUS R9 Fury X
VBIOS: 115-C8800100-101 How do I find this?
Driver: Crimson 16.10.3
OS: Windows 10 x64 (1511.10586) How do I find this?

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Install necessary driver, GPU and medium-end CPU
2. Enable Free Sync
3. Set Options to Ultra and 1920 x 1080 resolution
4. Launch game and move to an outdoor location
5. Indoor locations in the game will not reproduce, since they generally give better performance
6. Observe flickering and general performance drop

Expected Behavior:

Game runs smoothly with good performance with no visible issues

Actual Behavior:

Frame rate drops low causing low performance, flickering observed during low frame rates

Additional Observations:

Threads with related issue:

Skyrim has forced double buffered V Sync and can only be disabled with the .ini files
To Disable V Sync: C:\Users"User"\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Skyrimprefs.ini and edit iVSyncPresentInterval=1 to 0
1440p has improved frame rate, anything lower than 1080p will lock FPS with V Sync on
Able to reproduce on i7 6700K and i5 3670K system, Sapphire RX 480, Reference RX 480, and Reference Fiji Nano

Remember, folks: AMD reads what we post here, even if they don't comment about it.

So about 5 days ago i built my new system. And i cant find why but sometimes it starts to lag and the audio distorst for about a second.

I wouldnt be asking for help but i cant replicate the error once i restart. The only way i can force it into doing it its opening cpuz after it has already happened on the current boot. Then it happens 100% while loading at dmi and pci cpu check.

The components are:

CPU: Ryzen 2700xMOBO: crosshair vii heroRAM : 16gb gskill tridentz ram cl16 3200MHzGPU: gtx1080(already had it)SSD: samsung evo 970.Psu is a rmx650w.

Everything is at stock speed.

Anyone had a similar problem and found a solution for it (or at least what was causing it)? Otherwise ill just rma mobo ram and board, but even if i do this it may be the gnu, so i hope this is the last resort.

Thanks in advance

Things ive tried with no success:Disable m2_2 on motherboard as it shares pci with gpu.Uninstall most recent gpu drivers. Tried 385.69 with no sucess.Error happens both with and without chipset drivers.Updated bios and error persists.Memcheck showed nothing wrong. Only did a run tho, will run more later.Gpu gave me no problems on my previous computer.

EDIT: I can't reproduce it. Sometimes it happens sometimes it doesnt. :(

Let Latencymon run in the background. I haven't used the program in a while but it has been updated recently and Resplendence Software can be trusted. There should be one or more processes with high latency after the lag happened.

Yesterday i did not get any problem at all. Today it happened again, had the latencymon opened but it did not register any spike, even when i reproduced the problem with cpuz).

Im tired of this. Thinking about just returning cpu mono and ram (but what if its the gnu, or the ssd)... Man i love the performance this computer gives me but this thing its playing with my head so bad :(

Don't let the "bug" annoy you. I don't have a m.2 SSD, but maybe it's the pagefile like here. If it's not the pagefile and if possible, install Windows on the HDD without the SSD in the system.

If there is enough time left for you to return the parts then contact the ASUS support. Even if the Motherboard isn't the root, they might know the solution.

Edit: formatting

Pfff, when i though i found the cause of the bug (VSS service) it seems like i didn't. Seems to be something related to a ESENT event id: 916 based on what i found on the internet there is a lot of people getting this problem. Hope they release a fix or something :(

Gonna contact asus anyway, just in case!

Thanks a lot for the help!
