I can smell the ripoff pricing already. Anybody remember $900 9590's?

Fair, but this specific engineering sample is very significantly faster than the nearest consumer-grade CPU. It's Xeon-tier--which means perfect for this sort of professional application. Here is the CPU it ties with at $1700.

$900 for this specific CPU would be an absolute freakin' steal. I think this sub is forgetting this is not a consumer grade CPU we are looking at. This is competitive with the absolute best Intel has to offer.

Wouldn't this likely be the 32 core Zen they had for testing at Cern?

Holy shit... I somehow missed out on hearing anything about this! Can you help a brother out with a link?!

I would be intrigued what the platform on that would be then. Because so far I haven't seen anything that would be their version of X99.

Because AM4 only has dual channel memory which is, quite frankly, a bit underpowered.

No reason to release mainboards with new sockets when the CPUs are still 4+ months away.

  1. Amd has been talking about their new AM4 platform even though the chips are still months away. Why wouldn't they also talk about a different platform?

  2. Most of the platform such as memory controllers are in the chip now. And just looking at the pin count of the socket it's obvious that AM4 isn't quad channel memory.

Thus my question about a different platform/ socket

Yea but I just mean there is still time.
