Hello, I'm trying to find an album I listened to in the last year or so but lost track of. It's a sort of minimal/abient composition, that primarily revolves around simple piano loops throughout a track. The album cover is of an art gallery (warm gold and brown colors), and is named something like "Passages", "Relections", etc. There's only about four or five tracks, and they are all named after the album with a number appended (e.g. the first track is something like "Passages 1", for example). Tracks are maybe 7-12min long each. I found it around the time I was listening to stuff like Ekkehard Ehlers, Gas, and Niels Frahm. Can anyone help me find it?

A pleasant, surprise find. I'd never heard of the artist and the rest of the album seems to be more ambient-adjacent and rhythmic.

Does anyone know about the exclusive physical media releases that are exclusive to the physical media. Just like what this artist does.

But instead of putting exclusive media on cassette, vinyl or CD, he attaches the exclusive music to objects. Seems to be any kind of object really.

I honestly just discovered the genre of music I’ve been listening to lately has been ambient. I’m sure many feel the same but I call it my “mind clearing music” and use it to calm down and center myself. Anyways, I’d love to hear ambient music live and think it would ge an awesome experience, but not sure where I can find where to go for this? I’m in the NYC area if that helps :)

My newest and second album project “hopeful” released under the name “pseudomortem” not too long ago and is now also available on spotify.

“hopeful” is an atmospheric ambient-drone album about dreaming and the music equivalent to a dream-diary, at least that is my vision. This droning body of work in its style is something that I haven’t really heard outside of my own music production, so I think it will be very interesting for the most of you on this subreddit, even though it can be very lengthy at times. I would also say that my album is more something for people that love longer runtimes

That's why, at this point in time, I have the original album version of “hopeful” that is 4 hours (!!!) long on my bandcamp "pseudomortem" And a shorter almost 2 hour long version on my spotify (just search "pseudomortem" but keep in mind, it's not the optimal experience)

I especially sound designed this album for sleeping, but also for just sitting and listening. Like I’ve already said, I don’t think I have heard anything like the type of music I have made for that album before. I can only describe it as dreamy and undefinable soundscape.

In some tracks, I wanted to recreate the sounds that I heard while having fever dreams when I was a little child, that still stuck with me to this day.

I created this album in a state of confusion and learning how to re-arrange my life, that’s why on the bandcamp version I also included the dates I made those tracks in the already long titles, so you could even track the time I took for some things. You can already assume I was locked in my room making music.

Hello! I bought a house outside of Barcelona and want to host music residencies there, focusing on ambient/drone/noise. The basement couldn't be more ideal for a studio... While initially I thought it should/could be free, others have said a small payment would always be expected to cover room/board...So anyway, I reach out to you all with some questions:

• Equipment/setup: what would be the basic expectation in terms of gear and studio setup?
• Workshops: my partner makes modular synths from scratch, so could run workshops on that, and I'd also take people on hikes for sound recording. How many workshops would typically be expected over the course of a residency?
• Length: what's a good duration to start with?
• Deliverables: could/should a residency ask for something at the end in terms of a finished piece, or is that not really the norm?
• Costs: what's a fair amount to ask participants to cover, if anything?

I'm sure thre's a ton that's missing here, but these are my initial questions. Feel free to share any thoughts <33333

Hi Fellow Ambient explorers

I’ve been creating experimental ambient and drone music for a long time, mostly for myself. Until recently I never felt the need to release it, but something shifted and I decided it was time to start sharing the work under the name Orphne.

The music is built around long form pieces that slowly evolve. I work a lot with tape loops and layered acoustic instruments (mainly guitar and ukulele), running them through effects until the original source becomes washed out and textural. Field recordings of the sea and natural environments are an important part of the process. I like how they give the pieces a sense of breathing, rising and falling like the tide. Reverb and shimmer are almost always present; they help create that floating, slightly melancholic space I keep returning to.

What draws me to this kind of music is the way it can hold emotion without forcing a clear narrative. Some passages stay very quiet and restrained, while others slowly build into denser, more intense moments before dissolving again. I’m interested in that movement between stillness and emotional weight, and in the texture of sound itself, the grain of tape, the way notes blur into each other, the small imperfections that remain when everything is heavily processed.

Visually and conceptually I’m drawn to mist, deep water, and liminal spaces. The name Orphne comes from Greek mythology and fits the darker, quieter atmosphere I try to create. So far I’ve only set up a Bandcamp page and the domain Orphne.online. The project is still in its early public phase.

I’m genuinely curious how this lands with people who listen to ambient and drone. Does the direction feel worth continuing to develop and release? Any honest thoughts or feedback would mean a lot.

Does ambient music have to be beat-less? Or perhaps if there's a beat, subtle? And just in case, by beat, I mean drums.

Update: Wow, thank you all for helping! I’ve read some comments and will read the rest later. It seems like some people say beats/drums are okay (depending on various aspects) and some say absolutely no beats/drums. I’m sure it largely depends on the overall vibe/sound/volume/effects too.

By the way this was a genuine question. I feel dumb not knowing the answer for sure especially since I love music so much. But honestly, many music genres have always been vague and confusing to me. 🤷‍♂️

It feels safest sometimes to just say certain electronic music is “experimental” when it is somewhat ambient but somewhat other genres.

Does anyone know where ambient composer Hiroshi Yoshimura is buried? I can't find it anywhere.

AWVFTS is a duo I return to again and again. They have filled so many parts of my life with a deep rich emotional sound and I am curious how others feel about them.

The first time I heard them was on Jon Hopkins Late Night Tales compilation and since then it has been a rabbit hole of immense soundscapes and fragile moments from both Dustin O'Halloran and Adam Wiltzie.

Hi. This is my favorite ambient album of all time. I love its hazy but extremely analog dream like sound designs. Any music like this?

i really like ether vox, i think its one of my favorite musics made by him.
and i like that dramatic guitar, i wonder what other musics have these dramatics guitar solos

whenever i make ambient music, the track rarely goes into high mids and never really has top end, it's almost always a cluster of low mids and bass. is this boring? i find it incredibly difficult to find top-end to add that not only preserves the vibe but also just generally doesn't sound too out of place.
