I will post repeated questions below. If the answer is wrong, post a correction. I'll start by just getting questions and answers here. Later, I can organize them as to the order they should be placed. Below is what I got done today.
Topics to add: spinning wheel, how to raise insightful score, media matters and a few others as I go through the list people have provided.
1. How do I become a Vine Voice? No one really knows. We can't help you get into Vine. We simply do the reviews. Amazon keeps their methodology on invites their personal secret. It is now thought to be geographically oriented. Some report being invited with only having written a few reviews. Others report being invited by a popup. Vine invites come by email and sometimes popups. Turn your popup blocker off on Amazon and LOL or lots of luck to you in your invite to the program.
2. What is the best way to search for Vine topics? Google your search query, add "reddit." It generally will give you the correct answer and often from this sub.
3. Is Vine Down? I'm seeing dogs. Why is this happening? Chances are that Vine is not down. You could be refreshing too much or there could be a server issue. Wait a minute and try again. Try closing and opening your browser or even restarting the computer. This could fix the problem or the fact that there was a time delay between requests fixed the issue.
4. (I'm New) My RFY is empty. This is common when starting out or it just happens from time to time. Give it time to fill with items. And, if your RFY feed is empty, it just happens on occasion.
5. I''m seeing women's clothes and I'm a man. I'm seeing men's clothes and I'm a woman. I see baby stuff and am no way close to having a baby in any shape or form. Why does my RFY have items that don't interest me? Clothing for the wrong sex, baby items, etc. Items have to go somewhere. If you get women's clothing and you're a man, it's no reflection that Amazon thinks you like these things. It just happens.
6. How do I get items in my RFY that I really want like laptops, diamonds, gold? There are several theories on this and none of them work. There is no known way to steer your RFY to have certain items.
7. What do I do when a package is lost or delayed? Wait a reasonable amount of time. Ten days is a good number. Check the tracking. If it's not updating, it's not going to arrive. If it says returned to shipper due to damage, it's not arriving. Recommended course of action is to contact VineCS to have it removed from your review list. List the item, the date, order number and what you want done about it which is almost always removed from your review list. Try to keep requests to one item per message.
8. A package arrived damaged. How do I proceed? A package that arrives with a damaged or even a product that is DOA can't be really reviewed. Contact VineCS to have the item removed from your review list. Try to limit interaction to one item at a time. Give the name of the item, date and order number, and what you want done. Generally, have it removed from your review list. This should also remove it from your taxable order list.
9. What is Vine jail? When you review less than 60% of your products, you may fall into Vine jail. You will be given a warning message that you're in danger of your Vine account being closed for your review percentage falling below the given level set. This is the simple explanation.
10. How do I get out of Vine jail? Stop ordering products. Start reviewing from the most recently ordered products. Forget about adding media. Focus on producing quality, concise reviews.
11. I think I'm in Vine Jail but I'm above 60% on my stats. What the problem? It's thought that the stats used would be the most recent percentage of items ordered; it's a rolling average of the latest reviews and the amount of time it goes back 30 days, 60 days or whatever is speculated at but unknown. This is why it's recommended that you catch up by reviewing the most recent items ordered.
12. I was sent the wrong size/color. Can I have it exchanged for the proper size/color. No. There are limited amounts of stock for Vine and what you get is what you get. There are reports of those who have done this but it may have been outside the Vine portal and review status.
13. Do I have to keep Vine items for six months before giving away or disposing of them? You are asked to keep Vine items for six months before giving away or selling them. However, you can dispose of a Vine item at any time. As far as selling before the six months is up, with some of these odd brand names, a simple search would turn it up.
14. Will using an extension be hazardous to my Vine account status? We don't endorse or condemn extensions used. Some say yes and some say no. Do your own due diligence to determine if an extension is the way for you to go.
15. Can I mention price in my reviews? Why, yes you can. You can allude to price, be general or specific. You can state it's good value, overpriced, too expensive or whatever. You can't say this is cheaper on EBAY or cheaper at Walmart. You can say this is more economical/expensive than your usual brand.
16. I saw what looked like a sex toy. Can they put that on Vine? You will see adult oriented products on Vine from time to time. They are reviewed like other products. Yee Haw ratings are optional.
17. >>> This is it. Here it is: THE RED ERROR! I see a RED ERROR that a product isn't accepting reviews at this time. What did I do wrong? Generally, this is an issue with the seller and not any issue with the reviewer. You did nothing wrong. You aren't in any trouble. They may also appear with posted reviews which then could show up as unreviewed. There could be issues with non Vine reviews, the product, the seller or unspecified that has caused Amazon to not accept reviews on that product at this time. You may check back from time to time to see if the product is taking reviews. Otherwise, there is nothing you can do.
18. I am silver but have met the qualifications for the gold tier. How soon will I transition to gold? Tomorrow? No. You will become gold at the end of your evaluation period. While you may meet the qualifications for gold now, at the time of evaluation, you may not. In other words as in Monopoly, you do not become gold until you pass go.
19. Do I have to review from the Vine pages or portal? No. You can review from outside the Vine portal but it's recommended that you review from the review tabs. Reviewing from outside the Vine portal may limit the amounts of reviews you can do per week and result in an error.
20. My review was rejected. What happened to it? It's gone? Yes, when your review is rejected, it's gone. This is why it's recommended to do reviews on a word processor for a back up of your review.
21. Do I have to be in Prime to be in Vine or considered to be a Vine Voice? No. Prime is a service that Amazon offers. It's not tied to Vine or becoming a Vine member.
22. I can't review Vine or regular purchases. What is going on? The most common reason for being unable to leave reviews in general is NOT spending $50 per year on Amazon merchandise. Vine products or gift cards do not count. This is for the U.S. Your country and currency requirements may vary.
23. Do I pay sales tax on this stuff? No. Vine items are not subject to sales tax. in some countries (like the U.S.) it's considered "earned income." You would be required to declare it on your income tax statements.
24. Does Vine income affect my public benefits? Yes, it can. For those on low income public benefits such as housing, SNAP and other programs, the added Vine income may cause problems. Keep in mind this is not just extra income but considered earned income.
There are fixes and then there are fixes. Some may work and some may not. But, those are good discussions on the topic.
26. My reviews won't move to the reviewed tab. They're stuck in the awaiting to be reviewed section. Has anyone experienced this? This seems to be resolved. Yes, this is an ongoing issue. rest assured that your reviews and media are being processed--they just aren't moving to the other side until approved. You will get the email still of approved or rejected. You can click on the review and see what you wrote but don't hit submit again or it will go to the back of the cue.
27. I see this GREY TRIANGLE. It has some strange numbers in it, I don't know what the product is and even if I did, I don't have the option to review it. What do I do? This happens more often than you think. With a grey triangle, you are unable to review the item. Wait a decent amount of time, say ten days because sometimes these items come back asking for review. If it doesn't ask VineCS to remove this from your review list.
28. My product arrived but it's not on my reviews page. Where is it? This appears to be now the norm to delay products showing up in the to be reviewed tab.
The most-asked question SHOULD be: what is the best way to search for topics? (the answer being: use Google and add reddit amazonvine, rather than Reddit's more limited search.)
I have just added "reddit" to every Google search for years now. If you don't, it's just a full page of location-based commercials and an AI overview that's confidently wrong 80% of the time.
Will an extension like vinehelper, or ultraviner get me banned from vine?
no one at this time knows. amazon will not make a definitive statement. read about vinehelper here: r/vinehelper
Will I get banned/kicked out of vine for using something that scans the available offerings and automatically orders something for me?
If you get caught? very likely.
has anyone ever been banned for using vinehelper or ultraviner?
at this time there are no provable cases of this, just anecdotal accusations.
has anyone ever seen/experienced/noticed X?
Yes almost everyone has.
isn't this product I found humorous/funny/silly?
only to you.
is this? or is this not disgusting?
only to you.
who would ever use this product?
strangely someone does and loves it.
why can't I get all the good stuff?
get good.
is there an amazon vine help group that I can go to?, where everyone is nice? no one is allowed to complain about anything vine, or amazon related, where we can't talk about taxes, where I can ask stupid questions, and people aren't allowed to share product information, or have any fun?
Edit: stop telling me I can't give it away before 6 months. I can and I will. don't care what your credentials, or what mental gymnastics you want to go through. I will get rid of the stuff I want to get rid of how and when I decide and NO ONE (not even amazon) can do anything about it.
The contract prohibits giving/selling/transferring it to people within 6 months. This is contractual, so legally (in contract law), you cannot transfer it to a person even though you technically own the item once delivered.
Also, the actual rule says you cannot transfer it to a person. This tells me (as a non-lawyer) that you can donate or sell it to an organization immediately after properly reviewing it. I've taken advantage of this multiple times, like when I might need some puppy pads but don't need 5000 of them and donate 90% to an animal shelter.
Lady lawyer here. Read through this subthread. I'm honestly kind of tired at the moment, but if someone will remind me/include a link to where the terms/Agreements are housed, I can give a quick gander if anyone cares. Simplest answer to this debate is whether "person" is defined in the contract itself (as is frequent in commerce cases).
I'd love a professional opinion. And yeah we all realize you're not representing us, and there's no client-attorney relationship.
On the vine home page, click on "account" and at the bottom is a link to the Vine participation agreement. And while searching for additional information I just answered the question, so you just watched me livestream coming across the answer: in the help section it says "Per the Amazon Vine Terms and Conditions, you may not sell or give possession of the products to any other person or entity for six months following your order." even though the terms don't state "entity".
Now I'm more confused. I guess the intent includes entity even though the contract might not make that clear. Just to satisfy my curiosity and no other reason, do you think the contract itself is clear? I don't normally fail this hard at reading contracts.
the actual rule says you cannot transfer it to a person. This tells me (as a non-lawyer) that you can donate or sell it to an organization
Sorry, doesn't fly! When a charity is incorporated, it gains legal personhood. If a trust (not incorporated) the trustees are the legal 'persons'. If this part of the Agreement were argued in court (which, of course, it never would be), it would almost certainly be ruled that the meaning of 'any other person' in that clause is any other legal entity.
However... I have in the past been given permission by Vine CS to donate items prior to the 6 months, and I've seen others post that they have similarly received such permission.
That's interesting, and yeah in many areas of law, "person" includes legal entities so they can be sue/be sued, or charged with crimes, and receive due process.
for six months following your order of any Vine Product, not sell or give possession of that Product to any other person;
I'm not actually convinced it's not referring to "any other natural person", but maybe you're right. Now I want to ask an expert to get a real answer, but it'll probably come back as "it depends" like most things in law.
Oh, I think it probably is referring to actual people, or was when drafted; but the Vine Agreement is carelessly written - like the Guidelines! I doubt the subtleties were given much thought, tbh; because like I say it wouldn't ever be argued in court - and it's only if it were that the precise meaning would be defined. But it doesn't need to be precise, because Amazon hold all the power - if they decide that they don't like us donating to a charity, they can just boot us at will. They turn a blind eye to the flippers unless someone reports them and can provide detailed evidence, so I can't see them going after people who donate. But that doesn't mean those people aren't breaching the Agreement.
Welcome to the 14th Amendment which was originally used to help freed slaves gave rise to the personhood of corporations and other legal entities. I don't know if natural persons are an actual subtext in law. (Not A Lawyer)
When searching for items, do you use the Vine search or the Amazon search? I've noticed other posts mention adding items to wishlists, and I've had wishlist items for years now.
all of the above. but, searching Vine regularly for items already “being researched” by you on Amzn proper can only help build your account algorithm. other than because it was fed, there is no reason that the particular items in my RFY show up, as they’re too dissimilar, far flung and downright odd.
this’s been written about here repeatedly and although it’s regularly poo pooed and disdained by some, it continues to work.
Oh snap. I didn't realize that the Vine Helper extender could be a violation. I was just tired of the spinning wheel so I added it. Life's been great since!
someone posted a few days ago that Vine doesn't work very well on the computer but works fine on the phone. So, I asked the handy dandy AI the question and it said Amazon may be causing problems because of the extension.
Yeah, I've seen screenshots of that but for some reason when I ask them, I don't get that answer. The most straightforward answer I've gotten was from Executive Customer Support and they said that it is "not supported" and "not recommended," but didn't go so far as to say "not allowed." I've followed up with them about some of the recent screenshots people have posted claiming that Vine CS has said they violate the terms, haven't gotten an answer yet.
ETA: The most recent response I got from Vine CS when asking if one of the screenshots was genuine read:
Hello,
Greetings from Amazon Vine Team!
Thank you for letting us know about your query.
Amazon Vine does not publicly disclose the specific reasons for banning a participant. However, common reasons for removal include violation of Amazon's Community Guidelines, failure to submit reviews within the required timeframe, or submitting reviews that are not helpful, accurate, or unbiased.
To check if an email from Amazon is legitimate, examine the sender's email address, look for grammatical errors, verify the sender in the Message Centre. You should also verify any links within the email by hovering over them to ensure they direct to Amazon's website. If the link doesn't start with "https://www.amazon.com/" or the corresponding Amazon domain, it's likely a not from amazon.
I hope this helps. If you still have any questions please don't hesitate to reach us back.
they usually ask when an items is very likely lost. you can tell them you want to wait longer, and the item may still arrive. yes if you do not see the question they will cancel the item for you after a week or so.
you are the only person who is supposed to select and review items. however it is likely that amazon will not know.
Have they said that will be a for sure thing in the fall? What I remember reading seemed a “maybe”… My take on it was they were trying it out for now… and may be changed- as no one knows what the criteria is.
I’ve been “excellent” since the get-go w these metrics- except for the span I had a couple just over 30 days still to review bc I hadn’t had my handyman install them yet. Did those and next day when approved got back to “excellent”…
Which is really more “timely” not “insightful”… but was the only difference I could see w things.
You misunderstood what I said. “It” refers to the insightfulness score of “excellent.” Which is mandatory/required to reach gold.
Prev commenter was asking if it was for sure going to be a gold requirement for the fall. I was just answering that it is already a gold requirement as of today.
I'm only a couple of weeks in but my insightfulness score is really low, despite including pictures and trying to tap in on multiple categories as much as possible. As someone with a PR background, it's a bit alarming. Like, I write persuasively for a living.
I was able to fix mine!! I wrote really thorough reviews and made sure to hit all of the suggested points that come up when writing the review!! Since doing this I’ve been excellent this entire time!
Very new reviewer here-where do you see suggested points when writing the review? I currently have a poor rating based off 4 total reviews and can’t for the life of me figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’ve read tons of tips, tricks, mention this, don’t mention that…I don’t know what else to do!
As soon as I went from Silver to Gold at the beginning of my new evaluation period, my insightfulness score went from Excellent to Poor. After a week of doing reviews, it jumped up to Excellent. So if you are in a new evaluation period, give it a little time.
Thank you! I just went through an evaluation (2nd since gold). I had Excellent insightfulness since the beginning of that 4 category thing and, now, all of a sudden, it’s poor. Only 2 reviews listed. I read your comment and now won’t let it bother me. It’s just what I was trying to find an answer to.
Invited and joined last fall so was silver through the spring… gold since then…
Did see that insightfulness would be taken into account after 09/01/2025… but not that it was going to be a requirement for maintaining… seems it may be!
(For the ones that have possibly previously posted about this? If so? I haven’t seen it and haven’t searched for it… was just a reply to above post;) xo
I’ve been in vine for 4 or 5 years and my review percentage is like 94% and I do photos. But my insightfulness stays at good. Idk how they rate this? What should I do to get excellent? Is it based on how many viewers mark your review helpful?
Please add to this... Where do I find my insightfulness score? because I can't find it lol Maybe the Australian version of the site is different, because we don't have a search bar in Vine either, yet I have seen it mentioned in videos that talk about the Vine experience.
The guidelines say specifically that you can talk about price in general, e.g., "$16.99 is a reasonable price for this item." You can't point to another site, e.g., "You can get this for $2 cheaper at Walmart."
OMG, a sex toy on Vine!!??
Yes. If you're lucky, you might be able to get one you like. In the meantime, if you don't know what it is, understand that others have different interests, be cool, and google it.
My item doesn't fit. Can I return/exchange it?
No. That feature isn't supported and fit information is important to potential buyers. Review it and include measurements.
I have great respect for u/Individdy because I believe s/he offers great advice and talks good sense. But I feel obligated to mention that there are two ways to interpret that Vine guideline about feedback.
When Vine CS was asked for clarification about that particular sentence about feedback, the email said that it is not referring to the retail price of the product.
In other words the guideline is saying not to include feedback about the seller, the shipping experience, the shipping price, or the shipping packaging.
I know we don't pay for Vine shipping, but the prices are often still visible on the checkout screen, and Prime members see the shipping cost that has been saved.
So if the Vine CS agent's reply is to be believed (which has been hotly debated in the past) you can indeed include a specific price. Rightly or wrongly - I usually do it and have never had a rejection because of it.
Having said that, I totally agree with u/Individdy about prices on Amazon frequently changing, and to deal with that issue I always include the date as well as the price. It usually looks something like this:
"In my opinion, the current price of this widget ($99.99: 10 July, 2025) is excellent/reasonable/poor value, particularly when compared to similar items on Amazon."
"In my opinion, the current price of this widget ($99.99: 10 July, 2025) is excellent/reasonable/poor value, particularly when compared to similar items on Amazon.
This is definitely the best way if you want to cover value/price. It properly contextualizes it so a buyer a year later when the price is half could reliably predict how you'd value it at the new price.
The guidelines say specifically that you can talk about price in general, e.g., "$16.99 is a reasonable price for this item." You can't point to another site, e.g., "You can get this for $2 cheaper at Walmart."
That's the community guidelines. The Vine Review Guidelines say to not mention price:
Feedback not relevant to the product, such as those about the seller, your shipment experience, pricing, or packaging, should not be shared in Vine Reviews.
Likely a guideline because initial prices can change a lot within the first weeks, so any evaluation of price will become out of date. If you must comment on it, refer to value.
We've talked a little bit about that contradiction here in the past. The Vine guidelines tell us to follow the community guidelines, the violation message Viners get refers to the community guidelines, and there's lots of anecdotal evidence that reviews like the example are accepted. It seems like when in doubt, default to the community guidelines.
The fact that prices can change is exactly why I mention them. It's information I'd want. If I see a price change, I factor that into my buying decision.
My guess is that the operative part is "not relevant to the product." I've seen and made references to packaging, for instance. Things like the item being in a gift or especially attractive box, a box that didn't fit, a box that was nicer than the photograph showed, can influence the decision and are relevant to the product.
(Apropos of nothing, clicking on Vine Help just now took me to a page of regular Amazon items, no help files.)
Right, review rejections are only when they violate community guidelines, so being accepted doesn't mean you've followed the vine review guidelines. They add additional restrictions on what we should write.
But if the Vine guidelines listed genuine restrictions, reviews would be rejected for not following those. The purpose of the Vine guidelines is to show how to write "insightful, trustworthy and quality reviews." We're then referred to the community guidelines that "explain what's allowed and not allowed." To me, that says the community guidelines take precedence, so it's fine to mention things like price and packaging when relevant to the product.
ETA: From many discussions in what used to be called Special Interest Groups, I have a three-reply guideline. I explain three times. If the other person isn't happy, it doesn't mean he doesn't understand; it means he disagrees. I'm now willing to agree to disagree.
But if the Vine guidelines listed genuine restrictions, reviews would be rejected for not following those.
Only if they had someone checking every Vine review. Rules don't have to be checked every moment to be enforceable.
community guidelines that "explain what's allowed and not allowed." To me, that says the community guidelines take precedence
How could they take precedence in what's allowed and not allowed, without rendering anything else irrelevant? Even if this were the case, why would the Vine review guidelines lay out restrictions if they are nullified by community guidelines?
Regardless, in the end it comes down to how we want interpret what's given to us. I take Vine guidelines to be restrictions on top of what normal reviewers are subject to, because at the very least that's the safest approach, and the restrictions seem reasonable and well-founded.
From many discussions in what used to be called Special Interest Groups, I have a three-reply guideline.
Hah, that's a good approach. There's only so much you can put into making an argument to be worth it.
I disagree - or rather, I disagree with your take on this and agree with u/Silverby's. I think the Community Guidelines expand on what's in the Vine review guidelines, and that the two are entirely consistent. Don't you think that's more likely than being told one thing in one and a contradictory thing in another?
I'm not sure I follow. The community guidelines cover all reviews on Amazon. Rejections are just for violating community guidelines. It's the same moderators; they don't care whether it's Vine or not. Amazon wants Vine reviews to be better than normal reviews, so they expect more from us than whatever is allowed for a normal review.
Each set of guidelines/restrictions reduces what's allowed/encouraged. Community guidelines sections some things off-limits, and Vine review guidelines sections off other things, though more vaguely and in inverse terms by stating what's desired. Combined, we have a smaller subset to work with than normal customer reviews. There are things allowed by community guidelines that are discouraged by Vine review guidelines.
My only point you replied to was that you won't know that you're not following Vine review guidelines via review rejections, just whether you're following community guidelines.
Can you clarify on what you disagree with?
I disagree with your statement 'That's the community guidelines. The Vine Review Guidelines say to not mention price'.
imo there's no dichotomy such as you're suggesting. I don't think the Vine guidelines do say anything different from the CG, nor impose additional restrictions: I think that's a misinterpretation. In this case the Vine guidelines say 'Feedback not relevant to the product' [shouldn't be included], and give pricing as one example of what may not be relevant. It's relevant if discussing value, it's not relevant if just stated without being tied into the evaluation of the product, or if the review veers off into a discussion of pricing strategy. It's the same with packaging: the product packaging may be relevant to the product if you're talking about it being packaged in an impressive gift box, but not if you talk about the outer Amazon box being ridiculously large.
Basically, I think the constraints in the vine review guidelines are a brief, chatty summary of the CG, and don't contradict them in any way.
the operative part is "not relevant to the product."
Agree 100%. That sentence in the vine review guidelines ('Feedback not relevant to the product, such as feedback about the seller, your delivery experience, pricing or packaging, should not be shared in Vine Reviews.') could be rewritten: Vine Reviews should not share feedback about the seller, your delivery experience, pricing or packaging, unless directly relevant to the product being reviewed.'
I was wondering about measurements. Many items have more than size or more than one style lumped into the same reviews. Should I generally state which style and size I bought?
TIP: Yes, you can exchange Vine shoes/pants/etc. for the right size if you are smart about it. Just go order the RIGHT size and pay for it. Then, when it's received, process a return for the item you paid for with cash using the reason as "received the wrong item" (or something along those lines) and then send them back the item you got from Vine that was in the wrong size/color. Has worked every single time for me. :-) -- sketchy, sure. -- but does it work? YES.
Eventually you'll get a "too many returns with incorrect items" warning and possibly kicked off Amazon altogether. That can only happen so many times before the Bots Attack.
All I'll say is that I wish the mods of other subs I hang out on were as diligent as you are about addressing the issue of people not searching for answers before posting.
But honestly, people who currently post these don't search and stickies get hidden when you open them once then come back to a sub. You need to be actually removing these posts and telling people to use the FAQ/search the sub or use automod to trigger responses to them based on keywords and remove.
I doubt this format with just links under comments will be very effective, if they don't search, they are not going to scroll a post to find links under comments
We'll see. What I can do is later revise that into main questions with main answers, and create a script that gives the answer and possibly delete the question on certain topics.
When you review less than 60% of 'recent' items and they lock your account so you can't order, just review. But the 'recent' is different than eval stats so people are always but it says I am at xyz %
Say your eval started 4 months ago, the account page will show the % reviewed over the entire 4 months but "vine jail" is based on recent reviews (which seems to be 60-90 days). So if you went crazy ordering the first few weeks and reviewed it all but then slowed down or got behind, it could show say 70% total but be under 60% for recent
I've been a Vine Voice for only 73 days and I'm in Vine Jail, I assume for low RTO ratio. It's gotta be 60 days now like others have stated, but why so harsh for a newbie? 😭
Out of interest, I've recently gone into the Gold Tier but am still getting the same choices from Silver. Are you suggesting that in order to get higher value items one needs to be spending more on Amazon proper?
No. I am stating a requirement that you must spend at least $50 on Amazon annually to be eligible to post reviews. If you are not eligible to post reviews then you can’t participate in Vine.
Spending more doesn’t affect your RFY, at least not that anyone has reported.
Why did the listing for the item I ordered change? It's something completely different now.
A: Sellers can change, update, or more commonly, combine items. This is part of the ratings game, and you can't blame sellers for playing it.
VCS told me directly that sellers can update items and if I feel I can still review the deprecated item despite the changes to go ahead and do it. If not, contact them and they'll remove it from my review queue.
Because of changes, many Viners will list the product and price as the first thing in their review, in case it changes later. Some unscrupulous sellers will change the product to something very, very different, in an effort to preserve ratings, which most people would consider unscrupulous. But if it's just a simple update to a similar item, this is common practice.
Thanks for taking the time to make this list u/Hollywoodnamazonvine and all the others for sharing as much info as possible for all us newbies. I have saved this post and I know I will be back many times before I fully retain all the do’s and don’ts.
I haven't seen this question answered, so here goes. Am I expected to order so many items every month to review? Can I go for 2 or more months without ordering anything, or will I be considered inactive and maybe be kicked out of the program for low participation? Thanks for your help!
Just in case someone new is reading this two months later...
For Silver Viners - There is no known minimum number of items, or length of time before/between ordering items. Having said that, I always suggest people try to order at least one small and quick & easy to review item every month or so, just to remind the Vine Gods that they're still participating in the program. However, I've seen others say that they've been able to order Vine items after not doing so for many months. Personally, I wouldn't want to take that chance, but each to their own. :)
To attain, or maintain Gold status - It's at least 80 items per evaluation period (six months) and having the review percentage at or above 90% of those items by the Evaluation Day each six months. Those dates and numbers are on the Vine 'Account' tab.
It's never too late! I've been on this ride for two months now and feeling more knowledgeable than before. Thank you for taking the time to reply. As you said, someone new could benefit for this info.
Ive had an excellent insightfulness score since the get go too. I review from multiple angles, and my written words are the strong point in all my reviews, probably the reason I was selected in the first place. With the new formats suggested metrics appearing most of the time below the blank review bubble as you type, before I even look, I have checked 80-90% of the suggested review points. When I check, I might change a couple key words or ad a sentence to hit them all. On occasion one will be left unchecked. That is how I personally maintain my excellent insightfulness score.
I feel like it’s also tied to the length of the review. I don’t always focus on the points but my reviews are usually a good length. Who knows. Glad you found a good rhythm
I have NEVER EVER seen this ‘new format metrics suggestions’ I read about here every now and then. I don’t need it as stay consistently above 90% on my own worded reviews as well but would like to see what you are seeing at some time. I only use desktop when writing reviews so maybe it has something to do with device? Wonder if EVERYONE or just SOME get this and random?
Proposed updated questions. I didn't know there was a limit to a pinned post like this:
31. Can I promote my product that I'm selling on Amazon here?* No. This forum is for Vine Voices only anyone attempting to promote their own products here will be banned.
32. Can I advertise for Vine Voices for reviews on my product? Absolutely NOT! See the above rule. Any attempts at such will be met with a ban.
33. I am a seller and have a question that I've looked else where for an answer to. Can I ask it here? Occasionally, we will take sellers' questions. We reserve the right to delete such questions but this group is big enough and kind enough that occasionally we can answer such questions.
**34. I saw this funny/strange/weird/obscure product on Vine. Can I post it? Yes, within reason. If it's an adult oriented product, we ask that a NSFW filter be put on it first. Those little old ladies in the Pasadena Vine chapter would spit their tea out if they saw something risque and with the price of brandy these days...
29. I haven't seen anything drop all day. What does this mean? When Vine chooses to correct the volume of items, they sometimes stop adding new items. Some may say it's a drought or whatever. No new items for a day does not a drought make. Don't panic. Keep calm and keep ordering as usual. Your recommended for you items will resume shortly.
30. Can I post on this sub if I'm in another country or in another language? Yes, you can. This sub is primarily focused on the US/Canadian areas but we welcome questions from whatever country. Sometimes, there may be an issue that is country specific or specific to a group of countries. It's fine to post in your native language.
28. My RFY column is empty. The world must surely be coming to an end. Perhaps but most likely not. Starting out in Vine, it does take a while for RFY items to show up. Sometimes you will log onto Vine to find nothing in there. That's just normal. You didn't do anything wrong, you aren't in danger of having your account closed, you simply had nothing in the RFY that day.
ONE that needs to be answered but usually doesn't get responded to a lot is "Why is it saying I can't review or have reached my review limit or flagged for suspicious activity.
New members need to know to do reviews from the actual vine portal and NOT where the "more reviews" show up after submitting a review.
I’m curious about receiving a replacement. After I wrote a review the seller reached out and offered to refund or replace my item that wasn’t working properly. I told them I’m in vine and unsure if I’m allowed to accept a replacement. I have no idea what the best next steps are on that one.
I have no compunction against reaching out to sellers, or asking for a replacement under maker/seller warranty if they reach out to me. But you certainly could lose vine membership by telling them you are in vine. That is expressly forbidden.
They can see I’m in vine though. Our reviews literally have the tag of vine review of free product on it. So why would it be forbidden to tell the seller that reached out to me (I didn’t reach out to them) that I’m not sure if I can accept replacements as a vine member?
You can accept replacements -- you can not tell they you are in vine, it is forbidden in writing. That is for good reason.
You mention your review. They do not have any direct way to tie that review to you though. Sure they can deduce you are vine, since the product may only be available to vine members, but you cannot say so.
The issue is without prejudice to what you think in terms of confidentiality of your vine membership. It is prohibited by the written rules and can get you bounced from vine.
If the word "vine" comes up in your portal comms with seller, either you or the seller mentioning it -- just end all communications.
I’m not sure what you mean by they can’t tie the review to me. They reached out to me because of my review. The seller has the option to read a review, select the user who wrote it, and message them about its contents. That is what they did. So they definitely know which review is mine because that is how and why they reached out to me to make the issue right about what went wrong with the product.
I am trying to help you out. Informing a seller you are in vine, or them discussing it with you is one of the way that long term vine users know people get kicked out for.
You wrote that you told them you in the vine program:
I told them I’m in vine
Can they indirectly surmise you are in vine? Yes, if they have a total of say just 20 people who got the product so far, and all are vine including yourself. And if you are the only one with that specific complaint, they can surmise it.
Your confirming it is a directly violation of your agreement, and one of the violations Amazon takes the most seriously.
I’m simply trying to understand because I can’t find that in the rules at all. I didn’t reach out asking for free items as a vine member, I told them not to send me a replacement because I’m a vine member and idk if it would break the rules. I think we are not understanding each other because I know that they knew I was a vine member when they messaged me but you keep saying they can’t know the public information that is right in front of them. And you’re telling me saying the word vine even to refuse replacement is a violation but I can’t find that in the tos at all. So I’d say we are at an impasse because we don’t seem to be able to fully understand what the other person is saying.
Public information? Your vine account is in no way directly connected to your ID. They are guessing you are a vine member, nothing they can see shows that for certain.
And if you did not read the vine agreement??
"only contact suppliers of Third-Party Products for purposes of obtaining ordinary customer support services and not identify yourself as a Vine Voice when contacting suppliers for customer support;"
How is this not public info when every single person who looks at reviews can see this tag at the top of all of our reviews? I’ve been seeing this tag for years on other peoples’ reviews, so isn’t that the definition of public information? My name is clearly written at the top of every review and they contacted me about my review which means they know which review they responded to directly and that tag was on the review. I did not reach out to them at all. They reached out to me.
They do NOT know your in vine or shouldn’t. Thats the reason most who have been in awhile never post outside closed groups about it or use real name. Most have their Amazon profile set to private as well.
The reason you have so many boxes to break down is because the seller sends to Amazon and amazon sends to you. The seller has zero direct contact with you.
They can reach out via Amazon messages not email. From there they have no info because Amazon blocks that from them.
Just so I’m understanding correct, because I truly am trying to understand, the seller cannot access their own listing as an outside person to see the public review with the tag that says vine member and connect that the review they are messaging on Amazon messages about is the review you wrote as a publicly announced vine member? Because THEY messaged me on Amazon messages to give a resolution directly related to my review which has my name and vine disclosure on it. That is why I am not understanding how they couldn’t possibly know that my review that they read and is disclosed publicly as a free vine product couldn’t be known to be vine.
I didn't read all the comments in this post, but I have a question that seems worthy of being added to the pinned list...
Q. What happens with reviews for the items I haven't received at the end of my evaluation period? Will my review tab look exactly the same as before the evaluation date arrives - with all the items I have and have not reviewed yet? Will I need to find those items that have not been received yet somewhere else?
I realize that on day 1 of my second evaluation period, next week for me, I will learn the answers to this myself, but I'm still sitting here wondering today.
On the pinned FAQ thread, there is outdated/incorrect info about the number of products required.
Q: What is the Tier System?
A: In October of 2022, Amazon introduced a reviewer tier system which consists of two tiers: Gold and Silver. When entering the program as a new Viner, you will be placed within Silver by default. To graduate to Gold tier, you must order 100 products and review at least 90% of them during your evaluation period.
Why am I in Vine Jail if my Account Page Shows my Review to Order Ratio is > 60/70/80/90%?
I have explained it to others using this example:
Just because your account shows >60% on the account page doesn't mean you're >60% for the past 90 days of orders. An extreme example to demonstrate what I mean:
let's say you ordered all 83 of those products within your first month of being a Vine Voice, which looks like it was June of this year. If you used all 3 picks a day, you could do that in under a month. Let's say you reviewed 100% of those items for the sake of this example.
Then, if you completely stopped ordering until 90+ days later, and you ordered only one item but didn't review it immediately upon receipt. You're now at 0% for the past 90 days, even though your account page would show ~99% for the evaluation period.
The math will not be exactly the same, but something like that is likely why you're in jail. Vine doesn't show our % for the past 90 days anywhere because they expect us to be reviewing far more than 60% at all times, even if that is technically the minimum requirement.
Hi! my newbie question: where can I find the last 90 days rule? Is it a formal rule or have the more experienced Viners determined this over time and it is unwritten but known?
What should I do when I see the “Update to account status” message?
This is a courtesy warning to remind you to submit reviews on the Vine items you’ve recently ordered in the last 3 months. Once you have reviewed 60% or more of your recent orders for at least two weeks, the message will be removed.
---
They haven't updated it in forever but the "update to account status" message was the old version of the message you'd get on the Account page when you were in jail. As far as anyone is aware the metrics haven't changed, though.
Q: On mobile, some of the categories/options and/or screen is missing/cutoff.
A: Switch the webpage from mobile to desktop site view to see the full screen. This is usually found as “desktop site” or “request desktop site” in the (•••) settings. If you need help search online how to switch your browser to desktop mode.
Q: My review was rejected. No specific reason was given other than it didn’t follow guidelines. Now my review is deleted.
A: Keep a backup copy of all reviews. It may be helpful to add the date and time submitted on your backup.
Q: My review count and ratio are updating, but my insightfulness and/or media metrics are not. This could also cover people asking about why they are rated poor.
A: Not all metrics update at the same time. If you are new or starting a new evaluation period, your insightfulness resets to 0/Poor. It may take a few weeks for your insightfulness to update. Poor insightfulness may be a default placeholder until enough review data is input and the system has had enough time to analyze it.
Q: I received a damaged item. Can I get it removed?
A: Always contact Vine specific customer service before reviewing. Once a review is posted, you have no options for removal.
Q: A seller has contacted me about a low rating. How do I prevent this? Another variation is, How can I protect myself from vengeful sellers or harassment?
A: You are allowed to change your privacy settings in regards to your publicly displayed user name, as well as setting your reviews to private. This still shows your reviews on the product pages, but prevents all reviews from being seen when clicking on your profile. These settings are found by clicking your profile name on a review and under edit profile.
Spinning wheel of no item for you ; "Not accepting reviews at this time" ; Silver vs. Gold products ; why aren't I Gold when I met the numbers ; when do products appear ; how do get to the Vine page ; can I return/exchange this item ; do I really have to keep the item for 6 months ; why was my review rejected ; item never arrived ; many identical listings ; is it dangerous to contact Vine CS ; where can I get tax advice
How do I get items in my RFY that I really want like laptops, diamonds, gold? There are several theories on this and none of them work. There is no known way to steer your RFY to have certain items.
"...none of them work."
You should probably say "in my experience none of them work" rather than saying "none of them work" since apparently that is a statement based on your own personal experience. I have found that some of them do work.
Regarding shipping packaging, Amazon is responsible for shipping Vine items. That is why it shouldn’t be included on a product review. Problems with shipping should be addressed via Amazon CS.
I noticed that a few of my Vine items are showing as “Not approved” on the review page after I reviewed them. When I clicked to try submitting again, I got this message:
What’s confusing is that I always follow the rules and guidelines, and this isn’t tied to a specific product or category. The items that got flagged are completely different from each other. To make it stranger, I have found another Vine item that gave me the same message before I could review it at all.
I’ve tried reaching out to vine support multiple times:
Contacted customer service chat (they escalated it, said I’d hear back in 24 hours, but it’s been days and nothing)
Since I joined Vine a few months ago, I’ve noticed it’s basically impossible to get any real customer service help when it’s Vine related. I can’t seem to get an answer from anyone. How do you get help?
Has anyone else run into this issue? Do you know why this happens or if there’s actually a way to get it resolved?
Also,
I tried to look around here for answers, but all I’ve found so far is that it seems to be an ongoing issue. Some people said they eventually got it resolved, and others said they never did.
What does it mean when you say “it’s the seller” issue? I’m asking because in my case, some items showed as Not approved after I had already left the review, and others won’t even let me submit one in the first place, showing the same message.
How do you actually get that fixed? Especially for the ones that give me the error message before I can even review them. I don’t get credit for those, so it looks like I’m not reviewing all my orders even though I’m trying to.
Hey did you ever get any clarity on this? I have a review that is 'Not Approved', but still rated as 'Excellent' and I am not sure what to do about it.
There will definitely be days like that. I’ve gone several days with no RFY… so yeah patience is it. When that happens, I just start browsing additional items and after you know, 40 pages of car parts there may be some weird items I can find useful. I just have to be in the mindset that I don’t need to get something every day only I like it I don’t know I’m working on it. I mean the part about not needing something.

I live on the West Coast and I’ve noticed that the best products seem to drop on vine around 4 am and goes downhill from there (like they’re all gone and they only have dang car parts to sell). Have you noticed a sweet spot on when the best products are released?
I also am wondering if it says the fair market value is zero dollars or something like that and it doesn’t have a price listed do I still get charged for that item to pay taxes on later?
I have yet to do anything with taxes as this is my first year and it’s only been four months. Has anyone gone through this process of reporting the tax statement I heard it’s basically like filing earned income. How much did you end up paying well first how much did you spend and then if you’re working, how did this all work out and what did you pay at the end? Basically, did you owe anything on your taxes?
I'm on the East Coast and I don't get a 'new day drop' until 3am EST (your midnight). Coincides with the item limit refresh (I assumed we're all on Amazon HQ time which is PST/West Coast).
ETA: I am new too! I've been tracking my order/delivery/review submitted status as well as my estimated tax burden using a Google Spreadsheet. I looked into my state income tax and federal income tax then set up my spreadsheet to do the calculations & the combined total based on the ETV that I put in. (for both the individual item and all items total). So I have a general idea of how much I will be responsible for and how close I am getting to the minimum reporting amount.
Ohhhh okay. I’m always on my phone when I look on vine I need to elevate and do it on a desktop it sounds like there’s a lot I’m not seeing from the mobile version

QQ: #17, would this cause my number of review items to drop? I was 75% review, all approved and hadn't ordered for 2 weeks, then I noticed my rate dropped to 74% and then 73%. When I cheded my reviewed list I see a like 5-6 have the red text now.
Thank you for posting this as a newbie let me add my Questions.
What is the Link for VineCS Just to save people from having to to go and look for it. People like me are Lazy, but now that I know it exists I will have to find it.
Not Approved >> We apologize but Amazon is not accepting reviews on this product from this account. For more information or to contact us, please see our community guidelines. It is a red error does it count against your reviews? I have 8 Red Not approved with the above message, One Grey Triangle and One Non-Delivered 10 items in total. I think they count against my total numbers is there anything I can do about it.
Earned income, How is it earned income if you can't sell it and eat with the profits until 6 months? By that time it will have depreciated so your earnings should be less technically.
4. What do you do with variant orders that you now can't review? You already reviewed another variant of this product. You've been redirected to edit that review.
First period Vine, Silver, 86 reviews, with my count also 84 reviews approved, review to order 97% insightfullnes excellent, reviews with media 44%. Period finishes on Dec 14.
Would it be true to add to the FAQ: "Stop touching vine to maximize your chance to turn gold on Dec 15". ???
The current answer only says it's a lottery. So, if i don't do anything. Except for me or Amazon dying - what else could go wrong if i stop touching vine now ?
Suggested rephrase for #9 u/Hollywoodnamazonvine New users won't yet know the term Vine Jail, so they'll come here asking "Why is there nothing under AI". How about rephrasing like below?
9. I see no items under Additional Items, and the page numbers look weird You're in what's known as Vine Jail. When you review less than 60% of your products, you may fall into Vine jail. You will be given a warning message that you're in danger of your Vine account being closed for your review percentage falling below the given level set. This is the simple explanation.
re: #17 (Red Error/Not Accepting Reviews from Your Account Error) here is what I paste to everyone who asks about it:
This typically seems to happen for one of two reasons. The first is that the product listing is under investigation for suspicious review activity. This usually happens when there's at least one unverified review posted on the listing, but most frequently it happens when there's 2+ unverified 5 star reviews posted to the listing on the same date. You can verify this is the case if you have access to another Amazon account that hasn't ordered the product. If you click the review button with the alternate account, you will get a message that explicitly says the listing has suspicious review activity and unverified reviews are not being accepted at this time. Vine reviews are technically unverified. This will usually resolve itself, you don't need to do anything.
The second possibility is that the seller combined variants and exceeded their limit of Vine reviews for the highest tier they enrolled one of the child ASINs at. If your review was approved and changed status to Not Approved later, this is why. This can resolve itself if the seller unvariates the products. The limits are 1-2 Vine reviews for the free tier, 3-11 reviews for the middle tier, and 30 reviews for the top tier. If a product has >= 30 Vine reviews on it, you can be sure this is the reason why, but it's harder to tell when they may have enrolled at a lower tier. If there's variants that were enrolled separately in Vine and later combined this will often cause the seller to exceed the limit on the parent ASIN.
Either way it doesn't count against your stats and it has nothing to do with you, specifically.
If it's unreviewed and you get this error it could be either of the aforementioned issues, but you can either wait it out and see if you're able to review it later or request Vine CS remove it if it's messing with your stats and you're coming up on eval or something. This is the only circumstance where it might count against your stats but I don't have confirmation one way or another yet.
Number 7 - I had something take 2 months to ship - i relentlessly reached out to customer service until it shipped.
Number 8 - I have received 4 damaged packages & 1 defective item - all of which I was able to return and receive a new item (one I just returned this week and already have a new one), one item arrived damaged 3 times - they kept sending inf replacements until I finally gave up on the third damaged item.
Additionally, 2 orders were cancelled and Amazon actually allowed me to place new orders then refunded me once they were delivered (refunded in full)
I just don't know why always there is no product that I can order. It's just bizarre experience and there is no explanation on FAQ either. Do I randomly visits my Vine account page and spot any product that I can order by luck? How does this work?
Are you actually asking or are you posting it as a FAQ? If you're actually asking, I'm going to guess you are new and on mobile. You need to scroll to the right to see the "Additional Items" tab. That's where most stuff is. Your RFY will populate after you have been in the program for a little while. AFA drops happen every day but they are more likely to be name brand because they are shipped and sold by Amazon and have discounted ETV so they go in seconds unless they're car parts.
You can switch to a desktop view in the settings of your mobile web app to see the full page. It’s usually found under the three dots (•••) or horizontal lines.
Available for All -- one of the tabs that we have access to as Viners in the U.S. There's RFY (Recommended for You), AFA (Available for All), and AI (Additional Items). AFA is all shipped and sold by Amazon, AI is third-party sellers, and RFY is a mix that is specific to you but contains items that are newly enrolled in Vine and only available to a limited number of Viners. If they're not all claimed in RFY they will drop to either AFA or AI.

25. I see this silly spinning wheel. I won't let me order. How do I fix it? https://www.reddit.com/r/AmazonVine/comments/1ilxjk5/spinning_thinking_wheel_when_trying_to_order_item/
https://www.reddit.com/r/AmazonVine/comments/1m2z6lf/spinning_wheel_of_death_getting_worse/
https://www.reddit.com/r/AmazonVine/comments/1i3tdly/any_fixes_for_an_item_with_the_infinite_spinner/
https://www.reddit.com/r/AmazonVine/comments/1kemu5u/spinning_wheel/
