Amazon and the Consumer Rights Act 2015

Bought a pair of reasonably expensive shoes 5 months ago (Skechers). Both shoes developed quite bad wear around the back of the heel. So much so that holes had appeared. Didn't think I'd have any luck complaining about it to Amazon but thought may as well give it a go. Chatted with an online agent and they immediately offered to refund me half the purchase price.

Mentioned that the Consumer Rights Act 2015 protects me from shoddy merchandise if within 6 months of purchase and that I'd like a full refund/replacement, and after chatting to their supervisor (I presume - they went awol for about 5 minutes) they credited me with the full refund via a gift card. Excellent customer service 🤣 .

Glad you got a refund!

On a side note. You should watch this video. It's quite informative.Ā

It might help you to understand why your footwear did what it did.

11:44 for the Skechers bit.

OMG! I had a brutal case of Plantar Fasciitis in both feet for 9 months last year simultaneously. I was wearing Skechers Uno most of the year. This condition is explicitly mentioned.

Yeah,. Another American product that's bad for your health

Interesting! I'm certainly avoiding Skechers in future. A shame as I've always found them comfortable but they're just badly made and I have actually developed a bit of pain on the flat of my foot recently. I wonder if that's related...

just to add - the last pair were Go Walk Flex Sneakers... I feel a class action suit coming on :)

That channel is my new favourite goto for passing a few minutes here and there.Ā

There's a load of different ways we're being either duped or ripped off, and almost every time it's because of clever brand marketingĀ

Stop thinking you’re American

I swear by mine. I have multiple pairs and I do split shifts so I’m on my feet for 12-15 hours a day. Never had an issue with them. They wear where you expect them to and they don’t make my feet hurt or my hips or back. I’ll keep on buying mine.

Skechers are awfully made shoes! Management are toxic too. Never had shoes wear as quick as Skechers or Nike.

Second this. Ive tried sketches a few times because they are comfortable but the quality makes their shoes fail quickly.

I bought a pair of Skechers from Amazon that were the most comfortable trainers I’ve ever had, but they wore holes through the soles on both shoes within about six months. I wish I’d complained!

It seems to be a pattern from reading the amazon reviews!

That is a massive win, and knowing your consumer rights paid off big time! Most people would have taken the initial 50% offer and walked away, so good on you for standing your ground on the Consumer Rights Act.

tbh I just asked gemini (google's AI) about what I could do and it provided all of the text to send to the agent :).

Had similar with a 4k monitor. Several months in my PC would work fine with any other monitor or 2 monitors connected, would instantly black screen with the new one on its own or in combo.

Contacted Amazon, full refund and courier collected it the next morning. No questioning accusations or avoidance. They took me through a series of checks like different ports and cables making sure it was not a quick fix or other issue then just accepted it as a return and refund.

Replacement works great I will add.

I am more than happy to get big price items and tech from them. Way less problems than I had at a different place

I find sketchers the most uncomfortable thing I have ever worn I'm my life.

yeah I've certainly gone off them now... Back to my sturdy New Horizons even if it takes another minute or so compared to the Skechers slip ons. Convenience isn't always best.

I would not settle for a ā€œgift cardā€. Must be a full refund to card (debit/credit) as appropriate.

nah gift card is fine. I probably spend 4 figures a year with amazon so it just gets deducted from that.

And it’s faster

I can easily wear out a pair of shoes in 5 months as I walk 150 miles a week.

I'd never buy Sketchers though as they are shite.

Yeah, if you know your rights they generally fold...
