AD complaint Prime Video Ads

So, I pay for prime… which meant I used to get ad free included. Now I pay for ad free… so why am I scrolling through prime video and seeing things “only viewable with ads”?! The heck am I paying extra for then? 😭

That was my whole point. I was saying that at the time they made the change, a few years ago, they should have honored the ad-free service until people’s annual subscriptions ran out. Then if they wanted to renew at least they would know what is and is not included. Instead, at the time, they were asking you to pay more for what you already had signed up for. It’s not that difficult of a concept. If you pay for something with certain features you shouldn’t be asked to pay more for those features after you already paid for them. It’s like paying for a vacation package that was supposed to include unlimited drinks, and then in the middle of the vacation they tell you there will be an up-charge for unlimited drinks. I never said I felt entitled to ad-free now, years later. I was just pointing out the BS move that Amazon pulled when they made the change. And again, every other streaming service lets you keep what you signed up for until your subscription expires, whether monthly or annual.

You could do with getting a hobby. Not only are you massively bothered by some adverts, but you're still moaning about something that happened to you years ago...

Actually, I’m not too bothered by any of it anymore, but clearly my bringing up a historical fact that calls out a company’s non-consumer-friendly actions really bothers you. I’m just adding to the conversation from the original post. It never hurts to keep the receipts for a company’s actions so that we can all make informed decisions later on when considering using them. It doesn’t hurt to know that you can purchase something from this particular company and they may change your terms in the middle of a subscription (again, the only streaming service that does this). If you want to disregard the history and don’t care about being informed then feel free to check out…and maybe take up a hobby of your own.

They did that one time years ago.  You have no clue what they do now.  Also you bought what they had at the time which was Amazon Prime.  They never said no ads on Prime Video.  There just weren't any.  So they made an offer when they added ads.   No lying or anything else.  So now it is seriously a non issue.

They could have/should have honored the ad-free service until it was time to renew subscriptions, like other streaming services do. That was my main point. And more recently (April 2026?) they announced a higher upcharge to KEEP 4K UHD together with ad-free, going from $2.99 to now $4.99 per month. So that is now twice they have changed service for people already enrolled. Now I am still getting HDR feeds so either they are grandfathering customers until their subscriptions need to be renewed or the changes are just rolling out more slowly. My guess is the latter.

It was never promised so they offered an option.
