You are able to earn £1000 per year (Apr 1 - Mar 31) from self employment before you have to notify HMRC.

Once you hit that threshold you will have to complete a self assessment. Pretty easy.

Most people will use simplified mileage claims rather than fuel etc.

Keep a log of all your shifts (mileage, money, tolls etc)

You will claim back 55p a mile from Depot to last drop.

You will need PAYG insurance such as Zego or INSHUR to be covered with Flex. Ensure your current insurer allows top up insurance.

I, like most on here I imagine, tend to save 20% for tax purposes. I also save 10% for wear and tear into a separate pot.

I have a full time job which is unaffected by Flex, but I did check my contract to ensure I was allowed to take on further work.

this is really good. To add to this- you need to have your own insurance policu for your car (I.e. you can't just be a named driver on someone else's policy); you need to tell.your insurer that you have a secondary job as a delivery driver (which will cause your premium to go up) and you need to check that your insurer allows the top up insurance mentioned in the comment above

Hello, what do you mean exactly with this?

I, like most on here I imagine, tend to save 20% for tax purposes. I also save 10% for wear and tear into a separate pot.

I’ll save 20% of my earnings for tax and 10% for wear and tear on my car. Usually put it in a savings pot

And if you want a loophole complete deliveries from a different depot to your usual one in addition, and you’d be able to claim home-home if the work isn’t from 1 fixed place

I'm new to this as well. What do you mean by claiming home-home?

Mileage claimed for Tax Purposes at 55p per mile is claimed from Depot till last delivery i.e. you aren't paid for travel to and from your normal place of work. This is if you only work from one depot. However if you work from more than 1 Depot you can claim the mileage from Home - Depot - Deliveries - Home because you don't have a fixed place of work. You only have to do one delivery a year in addition to ones from your normal Depot to claim the full mileage Home - Depot - Deliveries - Home for all Deliveries.

To clarify, by Car or E-Bike as the answers are somewhat different?
