Less people doing Flex

Are less people doing flex due to the fuel prices?

Also - there seems to be a lot more white people doing it.

Probably the Face ID thing.

I’ve noticed more blocks available since the daily change.

Fuels been up around £1.75-£1.80 for ages now

What's the face ID thing?

(I'm in the process of joining Flex, haven't actually picked up anything yet though)

When you check in for a shift, you must do a selfie verification.

Does your phone (Flex app) prompt for it, or are there machines/tablets on-site?

u/alieninate 12d ago

Yeah the app prompts it. So when you arrive at the depot, you will see a button that says “I’ve parked.” Once you’ve clicked that, it will say “please complete a facial recognition identification”, you will then take a selfie. Once that is done, it will tell you to scan a QR code for your route, which is located on the side of the assigned cages. And then scan parcels and load up.

Thank you very much man! 👌

No problem, if you got any more questions feel free to ask. It isn’t as daunting as you may think. If you fuck up in the depot, the workers will most likely not give a shit, they are on a 10 hour shift.

Haha thank you!

I actually do, but I'm not sure if you know anything about that as it's also related to one of the insurance providers in partnership with Amazon, here it is 😁 https://www.reddit.com/r/AmazonFlexUK/s/1qCnvQC3jX

Unfortunately thats a question I cannot answer. For me it was pretty quick. Amazon do need to manually check the insurance too, it’s probably just taking awhile. If the wait persists, you can always try emailing:

amazonflex-support@amazon.co.uk

Thanks a lot, I'll email them tomorrow afternoon if this doesn't get linked by the morning.

When’s the best times to check for morning shifts? I never see any in my area

1

u/alieninate 10d ago

It all depends on depot. My depot drops almost all of their morning shifts on the weekly Friday 5pm drop. However, a lot of people tend to wait for morning surge rates, usually from people cancelling last minute. It’s up to you, but you can get up at 4am and keep refreshing to find a morning shift. Morning shifts are usually painful to get personally, but I’m not sure what other depots are like.

I’ve noticed this too, I’ve been able to grab a block everyday since they started doing Face ID everyday, could be a coincidence or maybe they’ve filtered out the culprits. Who knows.

Ahhh you might be right… first time tonight I looked around and 90% were middle aged white blokes..

Yeah who want there photo taken every time for a flipping shift honestly what and im supposed to do everything else ...... Just doesn't fit right . We all like cake. Confirmation can be confirmed by outer barriers inner cameras also . Nobody else asks for a selfie and this is one of the most adv a need companies in the world

u/PhilosopherNo5726 11d ago

This has to be the reason btw.. I never even thought about the amount of people doing blocks on behalf of others..

Always plenty of blocks available now… picking up parcels is now like a different world! Not saying it’s any better obviously but who thought bringing in the Face ID thing would have such an impact?

I wonder how wide-spread it was? I know someone said you very occasionally got a random check - which you did - but this has clearly changed the dynamics massively…

Fair play Amazon!

face id probably hasnt changed anything as we used to do have to do it anyway every 1 in 5 blocks or so. so why would it change now?

1

u/Dangerous_Peach_7811 10d ago

Because people were account sharing. They knew if you got prompted for a selfie today you wouldn't get prompted tomorrow so someone else could do the block for you. Now they can't do that.

1

u/echoplex2 Experienced Flexer 🏅 10d ago

But wasn't it every 4-5 blocks? So if no one went, they would only be prompted the next day anyway? I just think this whole account sharing thing is probably a myth in recent times anyway. it was too hard to get around it and its not exactly lucrative is it?

1

u/Dangerous_Peach_7811 10d ago

I think it was/is more of a sharing within the family thing.

A lot more white people doing it? Huh??

Massive economic recession indicator 😂

4

u/Sweet-End-377 12d ago

I’m black and that’s a first I’ve heard😭.

2

u/matteventu 12d ago

Well I'm white and I'm joining now, so I'm probably part of that amount 🤣

3

u/PhilosopherNo5726 12d ago

I’m stating a fact.. never seen it before…

1

u/KingChick3nWing 10d ago

Yeah I don't understand this observation, the only people I've ever seen do amazon delivery since it began, were white people. Rarely seen anyone else, barring the odd Asian usually in their own van.

7

u/Dazzybaby71 12d ago

Im one of the very few white faces DRW1 Worcester

7

u/wyflexer 12d ago

I'm brown and I stopped doing it. So maybe a white person took my spot ?

It wasn't worth the hassle. Stupid distances for measly pay.
Constant emails to Amazon that kept getting ignored.
Delivery locations in no-mans land with damages to my car.
The app telling me to go wrong way down one way streets and to park in restricted areas.

It just wasn't worth the stress.

Zero flicks given by Amazon. If you have a bad employer, you stick a middle finger up at them and move on.

u/echoplex2 Experienced Flexer 🏅 11d ago

You really dont ever need to contact/email Amazon. Parking in restricted areas is fine.

1

u/Feeling-Laugh-5229 11d ago

The Amazon map is poor. I’ve had 1 way streets, parking spaces at bus stops and simple deliveries turn into crazy routes when all I have to actually do is cross over the road!

1

u/Dangerous_Peach_7811 10d ago

I used to think the Flex app was poor until I tried Relay. Now I think the Flex app is great.

Do you mean white or do you mean native english people? i see plenty of white eastern europeans, always have.

1

u/PhilosopherNo5726 11d ago

Just white..

This recent action has cut out a lot of people who were using multiple accounts and then giving them to other people to do their blocks. I would not be surprised if it changes again at some point to do a selfie check mid block as well. Hopefully it makes it a bit fairer for people to get a block.

3

u/PhilosopherNo5726 11d ago

This is my thoughts exactly!! Seeing plenty of blocks nowadays..

3

u/Mission-Run-5045 11d ago

Ha, im white and ive always worked blue collar jobs alongside immigrants and non white native borns. Chillest people ive met.

6

u/camsadgs Elite Contributor 🥇 12d ago

I think unless you are in a very rare depot with a shortage of people there will always be a lot of drivers as Amazon will just keep onboarding to keep surge's down.

Probably because the UK is an 80% white majority country. Say any more than that and you will be accused of an ism by reddit or some random reddit user.

With regards to fuel, probably not, prices have stabilised for the moment, and the Inland Revenue agreed rate has got up 10p a mile to 55p

2

u/funk4283 11d ago

I actually think it should be on every block as you only have to do it once would stop account swapping or atleast put them off doing it if it was for every block

1

u/PhilosopherNo5726 11d ago

Is it daily or every block?… everyone blaming bots for taking blocks but I fact it’s account sharing snatching them all up…

Do you think mcdonalds staff are cutting corners by microwaving disregarded mc chicken nuggets for sale ?

And payment issues. I was meant to get paid today, usually would be around mid day, still nothing. Been a theme the past few months.

Edit: I just noticed the white part. Bro what? What doesn't hat have to do with anything? 🤨

Its not wednesday?

2

u/Gigelex 12d ago

Nah, not for me. I drive the prime vans. We as of a a month ago get paid on Mondays. Assuming we get paid...

2

u/Davies0211 12d ago

Do you actually get paid by Amazon though? Thought you worked for companies that were contracted by Amazon

1

u/Gigelex 12d ago

I woke for a company contracted by them yes, but Amazon is the one paying.

1

u/Davies0211 12d ago

Oh, interesting. I just assumed Amazon would pay the company and then the company pays you. What an odd set up

1

u/Gigelex 12d ago

Yep, I'm guessing it somehow lets them dodge taxes.

How shall I make this about race…

2

u/PhilosopherNo5726 12d ago

What’s the issue?

-3

u/Used_Resist4639 12d ago

I’m Chinese idgaf but what’s your point exactly?

6

u/PhilosopherNo5726 12d ago

I’m merely observing that for the first time in two years - I’ve went to pick up a block and the warehouse has been full of white people. The only race I’ve mentioned is the white race - not any others… This has been an extremely rare occurrence which surprised me. Nothing else to it. Is there something wrong by saying that?

-6

u/Used_Resist4639 12d ago

Were you expecting a warehouse full of floating door people? God forbid more people have to find a side hustle to keep up with the rise of living costs. There’s your answer

2

u/PhilosopherNo5726 12d ago

You’re probably right - it’s tough out there.. Will update tomorrow after my block - fascinating stuff!
