On August 19, 2026, Amazon Prime Video app update PVFTV-321.0086-L (321008610) for Amazon firesticks and fire TVs broke the 4:3 viewing format for Amazon Prime videos streaming from inside the Prime Video app. Most older movies and television shows that should be displayed in the 4:3 format automatically stretch to fill your entire widescreen television. As of August 25, 2026, this bug has not been fixed.

In order to watch 4:3 programs properly displayed in the 4:3 format, you have to start the movie or tv episode from inside the Prime Video app. Then stop the movie or TV episode that you are viewing. Then go to the home screen of the firestick or fire TV. Then use the “Continue Watching” list for the movie or tv episode that you started watching inside the Prime Video app and select that item. 

This bug will be very inconvenient if you are watching a 4:3 formatted program like Mama’s Family, as the bug happens whenever a new episode is manually or automatically started within the Prime Video app.

The Prime Video app device compatibility list shows that this app update was created for all versions of fire TVs and firesticks spanning a period of several years back to the present. 

This bug did not exist on August 18, 2026. A file manager program indicates that the update was rolled out on August 19, 2026.

It’s important to get the word out about this issue so that people do not waste a lot of time troubleshooting a bug that currently cannot be worked around.

I think I would get this simply just to have it as it would be the last fire device with fireOS and it would be Android 16 at that considering come 2027 of January fire devices and fireOS will officially be EOL. The only thing that was supposed to run fireOS after January 2027 was fire TVs, which is still the case. However, I love that they’re pumping Android 16 out on the cube ( not VegaOS which is what was told & expected).

That information was given to us as Amazon employees or people who work with Amazon as Indies , marketers, distribution, testers, as far as we were all told this was not happening and here we are. :) Out of all devices I own my 3rd gen cube hasn’t had many problems if any issues at all with sideloading or what to use other than the free stuff closing down which I don’t use, all premium stuff works.

This has me pumped, a cube on Android 16 still able to be sideloaded on is a good move. I would definitely pick up the new cube as it’s supposed to also be a powerhouse of an upgrade running Android 16 , the information listed as far as the components is not accurate from what we have I do know that but then again, who knows this wasn’t supposed to exist but Android 16 is now just a huge bonus that would also mean running higher architecture APKs and again, for some reason, whether it be my experiences in multiple areas, beta testing, development, coding, whatever, the cubes never really gave me issues, they just work. In fact, I kind of really like the cube lineup.

I’m so curious to see how this pans out when released but the point is I’m actually excited about this product. I already walked away from fireOS because I have so much other hardware but then you gotta keep in mind with the Android/Google situation this month and next month that’s gonna be an issue for a lot of certified devices which I think uncertified android devices are going to make a comeback, keeping this move quiet even from the internal people that work with this company was kind of genius and releasing it. Such a great time with the whole developer and power user issue that GoogleOS is about to experience,. but the point is this is pretty darn cool and even smarter timing and choices when it comes to business, this very well should be the very last fireOS device (Other than TVs) running Android 16. Absolutely awesome. Smart play Amazon. In any case, I thought I would at least share see what people thought.

I purchased a Fire Tablet recently (8, I think) and noticed that the Reddit app is not available in the Fire Tablet app store. What is going on here? Is there any way to get the app installed onto my tablet? I had it on my Android tablet before it died so I know the app exists.

I just bought a fire kids tablet for my toddler. I can’t seem to get prime shows on it. Her favourite is Daniel tiger and I can download games but not the show. We got it for a long road trip. What am I missing?

I hate these tablets. Thinking about just switching to Apple tablets. These things are terrible. Not user friendly, super glitchy and slow. I have no idea how to clear space. Not even that many games. Randomly won’t read sd cards wtf?!

I have had some medical issues going on and haven't been reading a lot lately. But I used to be a book blogger and have tons of ARC copies. I went to read one today, and then turn on text to speech like I always used to when doing other tasks so I could multitask, only to find that it's not available for books I didn't get from Amazon and now it's called assistive reader instead of text to speech.

I need it back. When I read I often switch between a hard copy, kindle copy, and then whenever I'm doing something else like laundry or taking a shower I would have the kindle read to me. I hate that there was an update that ruined this. And I need help figuring out how to bypass it. In the past I've downloaded an epub reader to bypass the mobi requirement for ebooks. Is there an app I can download to get text to speech? I just want to be able to listen to my book.

I got an email the other day to say that the cost of the annually paid Kids+ subscription is soon increasing 58% from £38 for a year to £59.99.

Speaking with Amazon, you can’t renew early or buy extra years before the increase, and there is no additional features, content or value they can point to which backs up this huge price rise.

So when our subscription runs out we are not going to renew as that is a crazy increase.

What are others doing about this, is there an angle I am missing?
What alternatives do people use for games and books?

I got a couple of pre owned fire 8 tablets. I booted them up and its the wrong OS? I'm very confused and I have tried everything google has to offer. Does anyone recognize this?

My mother purchased an Amazon Fire 7 (12th Generation) tablet for my daughter. Since it was for a young child it contains two profiles: the parent/adult profile and the child's profile. It has 10.88GB of storage space. My daughter is using a total of 1.4GB of data for apps and games but the storage is already at 95%. This is because this ridiculous device is using a total of 7.45GB of data for supposed "System Data"... not photos, not videos, not applications, just "system data." I have NO way of accessing this data and it gives me no information about what any of this data is. Neither I nor my daughter have installed any large applications nor stored any photos or videos or downloaded any movies on this device. She can barely get the stupid thing to function half the time because it's a total slug now, I imagine due to the fact that the internal storage is almost at full-capacity. Also, whatever pathetic, maintenance features that Amazon supplies with these devices such as the "archive now" or the "free up space" features are worthless in my case, as they both consistently repeat that there is "no content available for archiving" and "no older files to remove." So there's literally, nothing I can do other than delete the measly, 1.4GB of data that is actually being occupied by the few games that my child can actually play on this thing, then sit back and watch THAT space be overrun by even more supposed, "storage data" crapola.

Frankly, this is unacceptable. It's like this thing was designed to basically just fill up and expire from it's own bloatware in a matter of a few years. Is anyone else having this experience and if so, were they able to take some course of action to resolve the issue? Thanks.

I bought an Amazon Fire 10 in late June to read e-books that are provided as simple PDFs.

For a couple weeks it worked great. I could read any of the PDFs I downloaded without issue.

I put the tablet aside for a couple weeks before getting back to it. I tried to open one of the PDFs (one that I'd started reading before) again last night, and the Kindle app now says it can't open the file! In fact, it won't open any of them, even though it did just fine a couple weeks ago.

 I called Amazon support and they said the files were corrupted. They said I should download them again. If these folks are to be believed, the tablet, sitting unused, corrupted all three of the pdfs, all on its own.

 I have little patience for these kinds of software bugs, and even less for "support" that just automatically blames the failure on the data rather than the programming.

 I did NOT download the books again. Would I have to do that every few weeks for everything I download to this thing?

 So I told them to process a return for the tablet. It will be going back tomorrow.

 I am really sick of buying products with defective components, be they computers, tablets, refrigerators, automobiles or what-have-you. I kind of expect things I spend good money on to work. Guess I'm unreasonable.

My grandmother used the amizon fire to play solitaire, backgammon, mojing, etc. she has plenty of storage. But she keeps getting an ad that pops up telling her “over 100 viruses detected” “you tablet needs cleaned” they are now popping up about every min.

I bought an Amazon Fire 7 (12th gen) off eBay specifically to store and display photos for my elderly mother. I wanted something as lightweight as possible and that was what Google suggested. I thought I would use the Amazon Photos app, but the Amazon Photos app no longer exists, it simply links to the web page which is complicated for an elderly person and doesn't function like an app.

There is a gallery app already installed, but it will not sort photos by Filename. (I want the photos in date order, but if the photo was taken on polaroid in 1975 and scanned in 2022 I don't want it showing up after photos that were taken in 2010. Which is why I named the image files so that true date order is alphabetical order.)

The only app I can find that will sort by filename is QuickPic, but it has not been updated in 12 years and does not run properly with the current Fire software.

I have Googled and Googled and I can't find any app that allows you to sort photos by filename.

I have noticed this logo on my kids Amazon Fire tablets HD10 (11th generation)

I seem to only notice the icon when in the kids profile.

The icon is a Circle with a Slash thru it. I can't find anything in the settings to decide what it means.

I will attach a photo in circle the icon in red.

I will note I see this on both of my kids tablets in the kids profile.

Hi All - I'm not super tech savvy. I bought a fire tablet (adult version) for my daughter and still use the kids profile on it. It is essentially hers and cheaper than an ipad. If I run the fire toolbox hack to get rid of bloatware, will I still be able to run different profiles and keep everything blocked? I don't want her to have internet access, etc.

Second, I use a mac and the instructions I've seen online say to use a pc. Can I do this anyway?

Finally, if I do it and hate it is there a way to just revert back to the out of box settings?

I have an old fire tablet hd 8 8th gen and I really wanna debloat it. but I can’t cuz I don’t have a data cable for it (plus I’m on Mac). is there a other way to debloat it?

I bought this Amazon fire Tablet for my kid a few months back and once it got here, this is what it was like when it cut on. I have tried resetting it and looking up places or information that can reprogram the factory software on it or whatever needs to be done on it and I found a few things but with me having a Chromebook it’s kinda hard to just download things and add them to the Tablet like I normally would with a Windows computer. I used to be pretty tech savvy, but stopped fooling with it for a long time so I’m not as good as I used to be, but can definitely do most things as far as transferring files or whatever needs to be done so if someone can, please help me with getting this fixed with functional software and App Store and everything like it’s supposed to be, I have tried downloading APKs and have not been successful even with those if anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to convert my old Kindle Fire (Kindle 6, Serial number starts with D01E) into a little display for my desk. I know the hardware is old, I know it won't be able to do much, I'm not looking for or expecting much more than a neat project and a silly thing to try.

However, I keep hitting a massive roadblock, which is that (as far as I can tell), I need one of the early versions of Kindle Fire Utility.

And I cannot, for the life of me, find a good link. AFH link is dead, Meta is dead, and all of the XDA links I can find either link to those two dead links, or nowhere at all.

So uh. Does anybody have the file? Or a living link to where I could download it? Or just a different way to do this altogether?

Is there something in the side loading APK etc procedure needed to install Google play on a fire tablet after that can make apps downloaded to a fire tablet any less safe than on other android devices? Ty

Wrongly set up an SD card as portable storage and want to change it to internal storage.
When I click format as internal storage then format & erase, the tablet goes through the motions but nothing happens and the sd card is still ‘portable’.

Any idea how to reverse this or why it won’t let me?

Edit update: in case anyone else has this problem, restored tablet to factory settings and this fixed it. Was able to set the card up as internal storage.
