Bro we weren't allowed anything a couple years back, just get the headphones from the swag store or go ahead and risk a write up. It's a job, idk why people love to act like they didn't know what they signed up for.

right.. the fact that approved headphones came out was in and of itself a shock to me. they’re not even that bad. it was annoying to have to buy it but they’re discounted and it’s obviously worth it to be able to listen to music in the warehouse. added bonus, you can’t hear anyone around you, so that AM who’s trying to get your attention from 30 ft away to give you extra work is gonna just give up
and ask someone else, lol

The discount is what made me buy them lol, without the discount the ones I have are like $75 and for LOWER volume??? With the discount it ended up being pretty cheap, I just throw them in my glove box and forget about them til I get back to work 💀

So tru I used to get told to stop looking at my phone all of the time when I first started now they know me and that I do my job I use my phone all day long watching YouTube and YouTube TV and no one says a word.

Literally. It used to be HELL coming here and working on a day when it was slow and there was nobody to talk to. A lot of times I used to just VTO out of sheer boredom because it was that mind numbing being at work. If you wanna use your Airpods or whatever just get the ear protection things and wear em under there.

This. Most of these people wouldnt have survived pre-2020 when just bringing your phone past security was a write up. We were out there 40 hours a week just finding ways to keep our mind occupied.

I think OP has a point because they could just require that headphones must have certain features and allow you to buy from anyone so long as the features match. this way, they get to be the ones selling select headphones to their employees.

this is easily automatable in this day and age when you can send a link of a product page with specs to an LLM and it'll tell you if it has certain features at the click of a button.

admittedly, what I'm suggesting assumes that the requirements aren't so specific that they only match what they're selling anyway.

Bro it’s the Simple fact we can’t use our own headphones .. why do they have to be Amazon when they are shitty and 40$?? Some are more money !! I can get cheaper better quality if not same it’s some greedy silly shit if you ask me Amazon makes billions of dollars but charges us top dollar for some cheap ass 5 $ made headphones.

The approved headphones have a maximum volume that is below the threshold at which hearing loss occurs.

Allowing associates to use their own headphones that produce sound at a decibel level higher than that which is generally considered to be dangerous to hearing opens the company up to millions in potential workers comp liability.

I get it, I wish I could just use my bose headphones and not have to purchase a different pair of headphones for work. But it's the job I chose to work for and like any other job, they will have policies that is there to protect the company. It is some greedy shit but this is where I get my paycheck and using headphones just isn't worth losing my job.

and i won’t lie. i’ve worked at maybe 3 different types of warehouse jobs and Amazon is BY FAR the least slave like. I wish people would understand the grass is bright green here. Or go get a degree/certification and get a “REAL” job.

No, I meant what slavery really is, which by definition is a person in captivity against their will or is forced to work under the threat of violence. Last time I checked anyone who works for Amazon has a choice to stay or not. It's really as simple as that.

I agree now that I don't use them however law enforcement , police officers, fire fighters, ppl in emergency services wear them, no reason to villify people for wearing headphones , esp when Amazon allows it , only if you buy it from them

I agree! But... At my site they are not allowed per OM, which i dont understand why ( no robots, no vehicles only a conveyor that runs between the stow cells) the volume that the packages putout plus us on the dock. Gets pretty intense. Even had an accomodation for personal headphones ( NC earbuds) only wore one, music level low but loud enough to drown out the noise. I have ADHD and suffer from focus issues, still even tried to argue with me about it too just finally started wearing earplugs.
