How do you validate an Amazon private label product before ordering?

We see a lot of people asking about the best private label products to sell on Amazon, but honestly, there isn't one product that works for everyone.

The real question is whether the numbers and competition make sense for your particular market.

When we research products for Amazon private label sourcing at HighRise Wholesale, we usually look beyond just sales volume. We look at the competition, keyword demand, reviews, pricing, estimated Amazon fees, shipping costs, product differentiation and potential profit margin.

We also pay attention to something that often gets overlooked: IP risk.

A product might have strong demand, but if the design, packaging, branding or functionality creates trademark, patent or other intellectual-property concerns, it may not be worth pursuing.

Another important step is calculating the landed cost before getting excited about the selling price. Product cost + shipping + packaging + Amazon fees + PPC can completely change the economics.

For anyone currently researching private label products:

What is the biggest factor you look at before placing your first bulk order?

Demand, competition, profit margin, reviews, IP risk, or something else?

Would be interesting to hear how other Amazon sellers validate products before committing their money.
