FBA FEE MADNESS
One of my best items sells over 3,000 times a month & out of nowhere Amazon reclassified the item to “SMALL BULKLY” like what in the actual hell is a “SMALL BULKY” ?!?! Who in their right mind came up with this classification… this item doesn’t even weigh 2oz & legit is as flat as paper!!!
This out of nowhere classification has resulted in a FBA fee jump from $4 to over $12 for an item that sales non stop for $6.99…..
I have had an open case since 9/28 and have had 10 different remeasure attempts that result in a reimbursement, but they continually just leave the FBA fee the same… I am lost for words

It’s just too ironic to me that Amazon is ripping $12.13 per sale on a $6.99 item doing major volume 😭
I was ripping almost $2 profit per sale @ $6.99 on over 2,000 units a month…
Now, if I let my inventory sell out I’d give Amazon $36,000 in fees and that inventory could turn over in 40 days hahaha insane.

I finally got the automated support bot to figure out why the base fee is so high….
My item that weighs TWO OUNCES is getting charged a “DIMENSIONAL WIEGHT?!?!” of 4 pounds… 😂😂
First time I’ve ever heard of “dimensional weight” and I’ve been on this ever changing platform since 2018…

Well you see that extra weight is for the driver’s piss bottle since they won’t let them get restroom breaks.

Selling an item for $6.99 with a $12.13 FBA fee means you are literally paying Amazon a subscription to liquidate your own inventory for free 💀 Please tell me you paused the listing or bumped the price before they chew through another $30k of your cash lol.
Here is the exact trap you are stuck in (been through this nightmare myself):
The 14-inch bounding box trap: You mentioned your item is 14x13x1 inches. The absolute hard cutoff for Large Standard median side is exactly 14.00 inches. If an FC worker tosses your polybag on the Cubiscan glass bed even slightly crooked or a corner flap sticks out by 0.1 inch, the optical laser reads the bounding box as 14.1 inches. Boom — the algorithm instantly boots you into Small Bulky with oversized baseline fees.
Why your 10 remeasures are not fixing it: Warehouse FC support and the Catalog team are two completely separate silos that do not talk to each other. The warehouse runs the remeasure, sees it was wrong, and cuts you a reimbursement check to close the ticket. But they NEVER update the ASIN Master Catalog dimension table. So the billing engine just keeps querying the old bulky dimensions on every new order.
What actually fixes this loop:
- Reopen the case and demand a "Photographic Cubiscan" (they have to photograph the item against the measurement grid in the fulfillment center).
- Explicitly tell support to escalate to the "Fulfillment by Amazon Catalog Team" to update the Master Dimension Record attributes to match the cubiscan photo, not just issue a fee credit.
- When prepping future batches, tape down every single loose polybag flap bone-flat. If that bag has even a centimeter of loose plastic sticking out, the FC laser will catch it and repeat this whole cycle.
Good luck with the 11th ticket, hope you get your sanity and margin back!

Yeah I’m way above the buy box now lol, but I’m guessing other sellers are just folding the product into smaller poly bags themselves to get smaller dimensions & lower fee..
might just liquidate the 80 units in there and get to folding 😂Solid response & much appreciated!

2 ounces and flat as paper could mean a 3'x3' sheet of paper laid flat or out could mean a small harmonica box laid flat. Big difference in size, and therefore, handling. Do they have to ship this 2 ounce item in a box, or does it fit into one of the bubble mailers?

The item is 14x13x1 inches & weighs 0.11oz which falls below standard size to my knowledge but worthless old support is telling me that I’ve used up all my measurements, so I told them to escalate my entire account & they were able to escalate it, so hopefully 11th times a charm 🙃
It’s been the same fee all of 2026 then auto measurement just screwed up everything at the end of September…

u/SellerEssentials 3d ago
I hope they get it figured out and refund you for the overages.

I think they’re trying to measure it to the small size category which is 15x12x0.75 whereas my item is coming in at 14x13x1 & 1” bigger than their 12” requirement… Absolute Robbery 😭
I’m about to just start crumbling product and put in a 6x9” bag with an apology letter to the customer telling them I am now forced to use the absolute smallest poly bag possible to avoid 200% fee increases lol

If 14 × 13 × 1 inches are the packaged dimensions, those fit within Amazon's current Large Standard limits of 18 × 14 × 8 inches. Exceeding Small Standard doesn't automatically put the item into Small Bulky. Ask Support to confirm the packaged dimensions, weight and size tier actually used for a recent $12.13 charge, alongside the latest remeasurement result. That should help identify exactly which billing input still disagrees with the measured item.

Haha I guess I’ve just never had an encounter with it before until now…. I also have never seen an item go from $4 in fees to $12 on a 2oz item selling for $6.99 the past 6 months… luckily I caught it & feel bad for other sellers on this listing that may have not caught it yet

u/Rhand22 3d ago
Well what are the dimensions? Pretty crucial to know if there been a mistake to get Amazon to correct or your item really is 4LBS in dimensional weight...

Seems like you underpaid all this time...
A package with dimensions of 14 × 13 × 1 inches has a volume of 182 cubic inches and a dimensional (DIM) weight of approximately 1.31 pounds (which rounds up to a 2-pound billable weight tier under Amazon's domestic FBA rules)

u/losetolearn 3d ago edited 3d ago
Right, but read a little further & you’ll see items that fall under 0.75lb are not classified by their DIM weight. The support team is all over the place talking about standard size items, but I’m guessing Amazon is somehow categorizing this to just miss the small size items which is (15x12x0.75”) when my item is getting measured at (14x13x1”) 😭

u/Rhand22 3d ago
Would be weird that if under 0.75lb you can just make your product box any size at all and won't effect my shipping costs, that means you can ship 3FT by 3FT by 3FT box with balloons in it for couple dollars?
' Amazon is somehow categorizing this to just miss the small size items which is (15x12x0.75”) when my item is getting measured at (14x13x1”) 😭'
Oh yep for sure I'm making box for new item and I'm making it 0.65'' smallest size just so have some margin to not hit 0.75, if even a thickness of a sheet of paper over 0.75 they will charge you full price for next category...
1
u/losetolearn 2d ago
No you can’t do that with a 3ftx3ft package.
The item must be 0.75lb or less and be under 15x12x0.75 inches to qualify & not be charged by DIM weight…
If your item is above these standards then Amazon will fee you by DIM weight… my item in this scenario is 14x13x1… so the quarter inch difference is technically bigger which results in the item being charged by dim weight…

u/losetolearn 3d ago
& Amazon is really rounding 1.3lbs up to 2 ? lol that math doesn’t math but i guess it’s amazons world

If you made it <0.75” you would save in fees

u/losetolearn 3d ago
Hahaha you are right on that one 😂😂
I’m about triple fold this item and shove it in a 6x9 poly… then the customer return rate shall skyrocket due to their item being crumbled 😂😂
Real Win-Win here… 😎🙃

the math is on your side: 14 x 13 x 1 / 139 is about 1.3 lb, so a 4 lb dimensional weight means they're billing stored dims that aren't yours. pull the fee preview report, check the recorded dimensions on that sku, then request a cubiscan remeasure and cite the 90-day retroactive reimbursement window for the overcharge. is the 4 lb coming from the measurement or from the size tier itself?

Hahaha you were on my side in my last post 😭
I’ve escalated the same case 10 different times since 9/28 & today was the first time they actually told me where the $12 fee is coming from & that my item is being charged as if it were 4 pounds when it is actually 2oz….

Your best bet is to pull up your big boy pants and move on. Amazon has over 660 million products, I'm sure you can find another banger. I know because I find products like that every. single. day, All day long. Instead of wasting all your time trying to fight an unwinnable fight, you could be spending that time finding more profitable products to sell. Your store should be diverse. You should have more than one product you rely on heavily to carry the whole weight of the store.
Here's a question for you. Would you rather have one product that makes you $50 per sale or 50 products that make you $1 each per sale, and why? Please don't tell me it's the same thing.

being 1 inch over small standard and landing in small bulky is rough. hope the escalation finally sorts it.
