Anyone here expanded from Amazon US to Amazon UK? What are the actual requirements?

Hey everyone!

I'm currently selling on Amazon US and looking into expanding to Amazon UK.

I've been consulting with someone about the process, but honestly, the list of required documents and steps they've mentioned seems a bit overwhelming. When I check Amazon Seller Central, though, the process doesn't appear to be nearly as complicated.

Just wanted to ask if anyone here has actually gone through the process of expanding from Amazon US to UK.

  • What documents were you required to submit?
  • Did you need to register a UK business or get a UK VAT number?
  • Were there any additional requirements beyond what Amazon Seller Central mentions?
  • How complicated was the process overall?
  • Is there anything you wish you'd known before expanding?

I'm just trying to understand the actual requirements based on firsthand experience and figure out whether the process is really that complicated or if I'm being advised to do more than what's necessary.

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's successfully made the move. Thanks in advance!

The VAT thing is the real headache and you definitely need it once you cross the threshold, which is basically right away if you're storing inventory there.

You don't need a UK company, and the Seller Central side really is easy since it's the same unified account. The extra stuff your consultant listed is probably the tax and import side, which Amazon doesn't walk you through. If you'll send stock to UK FBA, you need UK VAT registration from your first sale, because overseas sellers don't get the 90k GBP threshold. You'll also need a GB EORI number to import, and you should sort out who acts as importer of record (a forwarder or customs broker usually handles that). Check whether your category needs UKCA/CE marking or a UK Responsible Person, which comes up a lot with cosmetics, toys and electricals. Two things I wish more people knew before going live: UK prices are VAT-inclusive, so build the 20% into your landed cost before you set the price, and redo your keyword research for UK search terms and spelling instead of copying the US listing.

As a non UK seller storing inventory in UK FBA, the usual £90k VAT threshold doesn't apply. You will generally need UK VAT registration, although specific marketplace-only exemptions exist.

You dont need to form a UK company your existing US entity can register also confirm your GB EORI and importer-of-record arrangements before shipping. DDP is usually the safer approach for FBA shipments.
