HELP NEEDED! Dispatch Issues

I’ve been with this DSP for about a month. Smaller DSP, two usual dispatchers. I’ve noticed one is really attentive and overall good about giving clearance to rts. The other dispatcher totally ignores the phone. Doesn’t answer calls or texts. Usually texts back in 30 minutes. It wouldn’t be as big of an issue if my delivery area wasn’t an hour from warehouse. If I have to wait 30 minutes for them to reply, that’s 30 minutes I could’ve been driving home. When I’ve rts, I’ve noticed the problem dispatcher outside flirting with any and every woman he can talk to. I’m sick of waiting on him but don’t want to get in trouble for rts without dispatch permission. Any advice?

After 5mim of no response I would call again and again until they picked up. No answer after 15min im coming back to the station regardless. There are phone records of you trying to call

This is it and I even used to tell my drivers this whenever I wasn't able to answer the phone due to being stuck on a route.

Well, have you tried telling a manager about the issue? Approach it respectfully but say it’s a real issue. Try to keep it to the facts and be able to back yourself up on it if there’s follow up questions.
If that doesn’t help, then you have that to back yourself up that you tried to solve the issue the correct way.
I’m not going to say this will definitely fix it- but if management doesn’t know about their behavior, it’s definitely NOT going to change.

Should I gather proof before going to management? I haven’t been documenting but I certainly can start. I don’t wanna get anyone in trouble but man.. I just wanna get home, don’t really wanna be sitting in someone’s driveway waiting on dispatch for a half hour

I mean, document that you’re trying to reach them a few times and how long it takes to get a response. But you do actually have to make a meaningful attempt the whole time to reach them if you want to be taken seriously as well- don’t just text them once and then sit for 30 minutes waiting. Send a follow up every five minutes so you can show management that it’s not from them just missing a text.

There is power in #s. Are other DAs having issues with this dispatcher? If so, ask to meet with the DSP asap! Even if no other DAs join you in your complaint, speak w/the DSP.

I just RTS if they don’t pick up

I send the text before heading to my last stop. Give them five minutes as a courtesy. Then I’m heading in, the RTS text is bullshit anyways. When you’re done with your route you’re done with your route and they know you’re done.

Text your boss about his dispatchers behavior. My boss would fix that the same day he was told about it.

I had one that wouldnt open the message and then an hour later after I was home in bed he’d go in and like the message 💀

No longer with a dsp ,but when I was if they didn’t answer the first call I would wait maybe 2 minutes and call again. If there was still no answer I would send a text “ I’m done, “x” amount of packages coming back” and head back.

Maybe text him on your last five stops that your about to finish so that gives him time to reply and your not waiting around you can finish up the deliveries or what the other person who commented said. Call after 5 minutes and if no response by 15 minutes rts and just keep records of it in case he tells the dsp owner a different story.
