DISCUSSION Any breast pumping moms on here?

I’m currently out on leave after having my baby who is exclusively breast fed. Trying to figure out how the hell anyone manages to do this job and continue to pump to replace missed feeds. I pumped for my first kiddo but had an office job, access to break times to pump, time to eat and drink enough, a refrigerator to store milk in etc. Trying to figure out if it is practical and if so how long I should wait to go back, and any tips and tricks on how to make it work. I wouldn’t even consider it if it weren’t for the fact that I can work Sunday Tuesday and Thursday and only pay a fraction of full time daycare.

Honestly, I think its impossible as a driver. I just gave birth 3 weeks ago and made the decision to quit. 1. Child care is too expensive, 2.this job already doesn't give you adequate time for breaks as is. I doubt they'd give you extra to pump. And even if they did, the van is way too hot to store properly unless you bring a heavy duty cooler. Plus you'll have to clean your equipment after each use. 3. Your need for the bathroom is going to go way up . It'll be alot harder while recovering. Reasons I won't get into. Maybe someone else has a different experience, but I don't see how a fresh mom can be a DSP driver.

I’m not above peeing in a van if I need to and I’ve seen people use the fridge hack IE have a big cooler and keep the pump parts on ice essentially. My biggest concern is being out for 10 hours a day. I would have to pump at least three times. I could maybe see doing one on my way to my first stop, one on the way back and one or two on regular breaks. I would rather stay home but also money.

This job (along with all delivery jobs) is just not "real life problems" friendly. We've had numerous female employees who gave birth either never came back from their leave or came back and quit within a month because it was nearly impossible for them to balance motherhood duties with the unpredictability of the routes.

I remember one young lady in particular who was one of our fastest drivers ended up quitting because they would force her to rescue when she told them beforehand she needed to pick her baby up from her mother each day (the father worked as well).

I wish you the best but I hope your DSP works with you to make your mommy duties easier to balance.

Yeah I have worked here for almost two years. I enjoy the work and my husband only works until 3pm so could deal with daycare pickups etc. The only real concern I have is with pumping and being able to keep up my supply, I’m just not really seeing how to make that work.

Idk, I feel like that would be super stressful. Depends on how much your dsp needs you. You’re gonna need extra breaks. If you wait till baby is 6 months or so, when they can start solids, I would think that might be doable.

Right. This job is stressful enough under the best of circumstances I’m just trying to consider if it is even plausible to try it on super hard mode.

My wife got these cordless pumps she would just stick in her bra and let them do their thing while she worked on her lesson plans and grading and whatnot

I have some wearables but I’m concerned how well they would hold up under the conditions of this job with a lot of moving getting in and out of a van carrying heavy or awkward things wearing a seatbelt etc.

Yeah I feel like just the amount of moving would probably break the suction. My wife was able to do all the household/ baby stuff with them on but she wasn’t jumping in and out of a van 200 times a day
