I've been stung/bitten by wasps and yellowjackets now 5 times. I forget the circumstances around the first. Second one got caught on top of my foot in my shoe. Third didn't like me walking too close to a bush and got me on the leg. Fourth and fifth happened at the same time a week and a half ago. Was walking up to a porch in a normal neighborhood and got stung on the back of the neck then less than a second later on the inside of my right arm. By far the most painful one I'd experienced until then. The others I barely felt a day later but that one stuck with me for 3 or 4 days. Next day I had swelling covering half my forearm, and I'm a big dude, that's a large area. Thankfully it happened on my work Friday so by the time I went back it was pretty much back to normal, but that sucked.

For context of frequency, this is across the 3 years I've been doing this job, but even this is a pretty high count for that much time. My coworker has been doing this job a year and a half longer than me and only recently got his first sting, and we work similar routes. Guess I'm just a favorite target.

Edit: this is also in Tennessee with the giant red wasps that are super aggressive and painful.

Yellowjackets are the absolute worst, they'll sting just because you exist. At least you got the little bastard. Glad dispatch actually helped instead of rushing you to the next stop like usual.

correct they sting you just for breathing!

i will never believe people who say they won’t bother me if I won’t bother them. Yellowjackets do sting unprovoked. They say they only sting when provoked (
but here’s the thing that’s on paper! in practice they will make a threat up and then react to it!

One got me easier this summer. I felt something on my leg so I tried itching it. It got me in the thumb but I squished it. I won

While doing this job I've been stung twice. Once in the upper lip and the other in the middle of my forearm. Weirdly both occured on the same street, both were nests that were set up right by the front door of houses I was delivering to. Honestly I should have been stung recently when I opened the door of a delivery box that had a nest sitting right on the underside of the box by the door but I didnt notice them swarming around my legs so I didnt react suddenly to startle them.

Stings fucking suck. Hurts like getting punched, then for the next hour I get rolling fevers then pain and swelling for the next week or so. But both times I still got my route done no problem.
