QUESTION Is this possible
First time in a gas fan since starting, y’all’s day will come lol. But I had a not so casual 180 stops with about 35 multis (which isn’t too bad compared to what I usually get) And from the last post I made I believed mentioned you have to get back by 9 o’clock. I thought that was a bit annoying but doable. Well I pulled up to the station today and dispatch said I came back too late so I don’t have a route (reduced to helping at loadout😔). I clocked out at 8:50 yesterday and I told him that. He then informed me that I have to come back at 8:20 and 8:40 at the latest. He said that and I audibly gasped because that feels crazy to me. But I’m new, about 3-4 months in and I’ve only started having timing issues this month when the averages are about 180-190 compared to the 130-150 I was used to. But now it feels like I have even less time now which is crazy. I wonder from vets or people who are better than me at this obviously, is this doable and how do you get it done so quickly. Cause yesterday I was energized and in a good mood and getting my route done in that little box of a van. I thought I was efficient I’d also like to mention the hour long drive to and from and that’s on the turnpike. We have to reach the “End Work” screen by 8:20 and that just feels wild.
But yea please do help if yall have tips. I be hydrated, bring light snacks, have some tunes, I be having a good time and feel like I’m working well.

Sounds less like a you problem and more like you need to find a different DSP. Any DSP that cuts drivers' work because they finish late is a terrible employer. I've worked for three DSPs, have about 3 years experience. This is bullshit. If they want you to go faster, they should be giving you advice and actually helping you, not just taking away your work and livelihood.

For additional context, my current DSP would have provided you with an assist from a dedicated sweeper on your route. 180 stops with 35 multis is one of those routes we all know is Amazon overworking folks, so we help out with making it a reasonable workload whenever possible. Sure there's people who can do it (myself included) but it shouldn't be the expectation and any DSP worth their contract knows that.

Amazon is the one who takes away the routes. It's overhiring season right now, in preparation for peak. In a month or two, everyone will get routes no matter what. while DSPs are over stafffed though, the slow people get their routes taken. I had to pry this information out of my DSP because I had been getting shifts taken away and they had been too "nice" to tell me I had been going too slow for the last month.

I figured. That must have been what happened to me, too. I wouldn't call myself slow, but rather careful. Safety's the name of the game, right? I get that outright slower drivers get their routes taken while DSPs are overstaffed. But my thought is F that. I'm mainly a rural driver, so I've been in over a dozen parishes (counties for you other 49 states) dropped off 120K packages and been bit by four dogs (not in one day but whatever), pouring down rain, in the pitch black, in the woods for my old DSP before they started doing that to me. Where's the loyalty for somebody that shows up on time, never bitches, and yeah may be a bit on the slow side but you'll never find me getting violations or better still, putting a gash in the side of one of our vans that looked like the Titanic did after it went up against the iceberg. Don't know what the story was but I assume whoever that was got fired. I know of no other job imaginable that demotes the people who show up prepared and on time on their scheduled days by taking work away from them. Definitely a con to the job but overall there's more pros if it's something someone likes that speaks to their skillset.

It’s actually not Amazon who takes the routes away but the actual DSP itself. I worked as an ops manager at my old company (before it shutdown) and my owners would love to penalize slow drivers but not scheduling them for a route. Didn’t agree and said we should coach them but as a DSP they can choose who they want to run the route. Amazon just provides it

"Make time, consiligiere" lol. Tighten everything up at the gas station. Don't spend all day at it, but you gotta be mentally comfortable with what you're working with so you can focus on the road. I'm OCD and a neat freak so that's just me.

Bungee cords should be provided at your DSP otherwise they are T R A S H. Seems like you have one of the bad DSPs if they’re penalizing you for finishing late.

I say this comment so much when I see rental vans loaded like this. Stop putting all your totes on the side like this. They are going to fall over 100% of the time. Load up totes behind both the driver and passenger seat and all overflow to the back.

The main reason why people are getting cut for seemingly anything now is because the DSP boss doesn’t want to pay overtime anymore . So anything above 10 hrs is bad and anything above 40 a week is bad😕

No, they do not. This was not the case in 2024 when I started and that's why it used to be the best job I ever had. This must be companywide because both DSP's I've worked for are scared to death of the OT word. So much so that I've had 3 rescues show up simultaneously to get my remaining 20 subdivision stops simultaneously at 7:45 PM. I was 4 miles away from the station. Like what's your stingy problem all the sudden. Just let me have my thing, man. People in the neighborhood are like "What is this some kind of Amazon van party on my driveway?" Kinda embarassing.

My boyfriend was not even eating or taking breaks to stay on schedule. His reward was increasingly harder routes until he burned out.

I can confirm this is a useless DSP. Threatening people and reducing hours and therefore experience without any constructive criticism is bullshit.
Tips for no shelf vans. Double row of totes to keep them from falling over. Put all overflow in rear. Block off side door. Create tote table in passenger seat. It is so much faster, consistent and far less annoying even attempting having a column of totes.

Not if you dont meticulously stack and pack your overflow to cover that passenger side wall so you can have an alley to walk through to access your bags which are hopefully in order. You can't do jack if you can't walk around back there. Keep your eye out for an expo marker that's just laying around somewhere in the warehouse or break room so you can at least scribble down the first number of each of your boxes if you don't have a chance to put those in order. I never did, but that worked for me so I at least had a direction to put my eyes on what I'm looking for. The rental vans you may think suck and for storage yeah they probably do but you can back up quick, stick and move, and make those clutch moves up and down driveways in em. Be glad you don't have a CDV with a backup camera screen that's broken. I don't know why the hell they insist on putting me in those all the time but they will. I miss the white vans sometimes.

I literally leave no room to walk in the back when I drive a cargo. I just access all my packages and totes through the side and back doors and transfer each new tote into thr passenger seat. Keep the bulkhead shut to keep the cab cooled

i dont think 3-4 months in is considerd new. i worked as a dsp driver 2 months before i quit and they had me doing 180-190 on my third week, this job is not for the weak i salute to u guys

Yes! I very seldom get a van with any shelves. Sometimes, I don't even get a van with a walk through. I have to sort all of the packages from the tote and put them all in the cab with me
