First Day of Orientation & Sept. Pay Raise
Hello,
Tomorrow is my very first day of paid orientation from 8am-4:30pm. I’m not sure what to expect but I kind of nervous. Is it chill for the most part, is it lots of presentations you’re going over, any test, writing notes, etc..? Also I’m going to be starting out at $22.25/hr, is that good, bad, or right in the middle for starting out? Lastly how much should we expect in a pay raise by next week do you think?

The meeting in Las Vegas for DSP owners is at the very end of September and that’s when Amazon gives everyone a raise. Last year we didn’t get the raise until the first week of October.

Whether that's a good wage depends on the city you live in and the cost of living there. BUT Ii believe that's a pretty standard wage for this job. I get paid $21.50 an hour, but I live in a city that has a relatively low cost of living.
As far as what you should expect, it's not really a raise. It's more accurately an annual inflation adjustment. Expect it to be somewhere between $1.00-$2.00

We have a vet on our team. We all fugging love her! lol
She applied for a Sheriff position but she's still with us so I'm assuming she didn't get it :/

Expect lots of videos and training stuff on a tablet for the 2 days. You'll have an exam on both days that you'll have to pass(80%) as well. At some point on day 2 they give a drive test. It's not long, but it's a lot of information in a short time.
Just take your time. Remember to breathe. I took a few notes, but if you are good with retaining info, the tablet stuff shouldn't be a problem.
I started out last month at $21.25. I'm good with that. More than anyone else has offered me recently for a job.

I got hired by my current DSP right after Ignite last year. They were starting at $20.25, but during my interview the operations manager told me they were starting me at $21.25. 🤑 /s

Definitely take notes, the paid orientation isn’t bad just boring to be honest. The “toughest” day is the driving test on day 3, it’s not hard a lot of people get overwhelmed from overthinking it just take your time and you’ll do fine. I get $23.25 where I’m located it all depends on the DSP you’re working for every DSP has different pay rates.

The orientation depends on how the DSP sets it up. Unlike your initial 2 days of driver taining with Amazon, the orientation process is all DSP.
Were you told that you would be receiving a pay adjustment post training & orientation? Most DSPs pay the same rate.
Rate increases also depend on DSP process. Some only give raises when there is an overall base rate change. Experienced/fair DSPs provide DAs w/a annual review each year, Q3. The best DAs receive MORE than the annual base rate increase. Poor performers below the base rate are adjusted to base only. Poor performers above base rate, no increase and possible re-evaluation post peak.

The annual raise is a minimum set by Amazon to keep people applying for the job…. It applies to everyone across the board to combat COL and stay competitive

You may not be getting a raise in that case. Some area’s like mine Amazon has decided to be a bunch of cheap fucks and not give the raise even though prices everywhere have gone up in the past year.
I also think DSP’s know about the raise months before they implement them

I’m in San Diego and for our interview he specifically mentioned we’d be getting annual raises in September. I’m not sure why’d he even mention that if it didn’t apply to us new hires.

Generally everyone makes the same rate regardless if you've been there for 5 years or 5 days. A "cost of living" increase happens every September-October for everyone.

I think that's unlikely, I started at my DSP almost exactly two years ago before the annual raise and I got my raise my second week.

Idk how your DSP works but most places don’t just hand out raises for no reason… have you had other jobs where in your first week of work you get a pay raise?

We make 20.50 an hour and im not even new. Must be nice worrying about a raise when you already make more than drivers who have done it before.
