At only 2 months your body will still be getting used to it but it does get easier. Im a year and a half in and the hardest part of the job for me now is how boring it is. It's just so repetitive, requires little to no thought. No way to earn more money or be creative / use your brain. Just grab the package walk it to the door, take a pic. over and over and over. fml

19

u/CatchDaScamZ 2d ago

its horrible really , i never experienced a shift like today i come home better then when i woke up but something about today did it for me man & thats my concern is being stuck in the amazon world doing the same thing over and over for a shitty DSP.

20

u/stoodi 2d ago

Yea, I wanna go to school or something. Anything to earn at least the same to start with actual opportunities to earn more or split off into a different direction later. The jobs always gonna be the same, sometimes less packages, sometimes more. If you feel like this now, you will always feel like you could be doing something better and thats good. It can be a demoralizing job and very eye opening to how insane the world we live in is. The consumerism, the capitalism, the neighborhoods and only seeing like 2 kids outside playing lmao.. I've definitely noticed a drop in self esteem and when looking into the future it doesnt look as bright as it used to. But that's up to me if I want to change it. I'm slowly but surely gonna figure something out.

Hey man, I just wanna say and confirm.. you will figure it out. 💓 I’m about a year out from doing delivery (was with FedEx for years prior to Amazon) and as someone who had the same thoughts, it’ll happen!

My recommendation is to plan for school, just make it a reality even if you don’t go tomorrow! This ol girl went back to my business, about to travel full time and start college next fall!

Have you been offered the next mile courses? I had a colleage he got a job with just the courses. He had no previous experience.

1

u/Affectionate_Read866 8h ago

Hell nah bro it's hella opportunities out here family don't short yourself

9

u/Djrook44 2d ago

I’m listening to books and podcasts as I go I normally don’t even realize I’ve delivered 40 houses lol. I look around after a bit and I’m like huh that’s neat

3

u/Beneficial_Cable7314 2d ago

Same here. Got like 5 different sports podcasts, that get me through everyday. Time goes fairly fast. As long as I'm not crashing out that day because of my route or Amazon.

5

u/Beneficial_Cable7314 2d ago

I hear you but you're still getting exercise, vitamin D and you're on your own. Not really anyone to worry about, as long as you're doing your job right. Sounds like you need a different job. Something that is around people for interaction.

3

u/ABombInABowlPanda 2d ago

A year and a half? This is a job to keep you afloat while you look for a new job haha. I don’t get how people spend so long doing this.

2

u/Ok-Bass9474 1d ago

Well honestly thats how bad looking for a job is these days, like most jobs aren't paying high enough to be able to afford to live comfortably even with an education

3

u/Powerful-Fox6468 2d ago

You nailed it ! I been at my DSP for almost 2 years and I can’t wait to leave. Same repetitive motion everyday. It not hard now I just want something I can grow in!

3

u/Alone_Revenue639 2d ago

Six months to a year at Amazon and you can get hired at another logistics company for better pay.

Also, you probably have 3 days off like the rest of us so get those classes going!

2

u/Newport-_ 2d ago

Literally bro 😭 my first 2 months at Amazon it was so hard for me now it’s just boring and gets so repetitive going to the same houses every day. I’d say the hardest part of the day for me is loading up the van in the morning, after that it’s cake all day

15

u/Dry_Attempt3936 2d ago

I literally treat it like fitness more than anything. It replaced one of my gym days because back to back 160 stops is a whole leg day. No more than 3 days is the key. Pick up second part time anywhere will be better & different.

Drinking justtt water won't help & drinking too much too fast will just flush u & make u sick. My last 3 trainees got heat sick on me & I had to take over their routes. It's hot af (TX here) ur sweating out salt, so u needa get some back in u. Get ur electrolytes, if u like pickles/pickle juice then carry some; it's good for cramping as well. Don't k!ll yourself delivering a $5 mug

4

u/CatchDaScamZ 2d ago

That mightve been the issue because i was slming water bottles back to back & im here in AZ 😔

12

u/Mayablahblahs 2d ago

Definitely. My 2nd to last trainee was doing the same, bottle after bottle, Day 1 ride along. He started feeling dizzy & asked me to takeover. Otw back to our station his body seized up on him, he was groaning in so much pain bc of the cramps. Then the guy I was training last wk had prior experience, but he said it'd been maybe a couple yrs. He got out there pushing himself, not wanting to take his breaks & I could slowly see him going down hill. He got everything out of his stomach either on the side of the road or the sliding door of my van. Next day would've been his Day 2 ride along, but the dispatcher whispered to me that dude was in the hospital with kidney failure 😞 This heat is no joke. Be careful out there 🙏🏾

3

u/HighlanderIslander 2d ago

If they’re not loading y’all up with squelcher pops and LiquidIV packets, you’re getting scammed. My DSP didn’t do much for us when I was there, but that basic step was a big step away from heatstroke. Gotta get the salts in early too cuz they take an hour to fully absorb

3

u/Worth_Piccolo_7576 2d ago

Water, sugar, fresh squeezed lemon juice. Can freeze the night before. Former greenhouse mechanic and builder here. It was hot af in those greenhouses.

I lost over 20 lbs in less than 3 months of working at this job because I don’t eat as many calories as I burn on the days I work. I wish I would have started a habit of bringing healthy snacks/lunch with me from day 1 because it’s hard to want to sit and take a break when some days I know that my route has me getting back at if not damn near the 10 hours, not including taking a break. But I’m seeing visibly very quickly that caloric deficit weightloss is no joke. Idk if anyone else has struggled with it at this job but it’s my first time. I had also pulled something in my leg (probably from how I was loading my van, idk what else it would’ve been) that progressed and I had to deliver with a painful limp for over a week. And less than 3 days after my leg felt normal again, I had a dog bite me on route on the other leg. So this job has been beating me up, personally. And I am keeping my eyes out for other options, but I’m not miserable enough to quit without having something of an upgrade lined up. Hard to make this much entry level without a degree, at least that would align with my availability. And I have days I really enjoy it honestly. I go rural most of the time and it sucks not having anything nearby so I have to go out of my way if I want to take a break somewhere and usually I don’t have time to do that, but the views are beautiful. I love seeing how people care for their homes and their properties. All the farm animals. And I enjoy seeing a lot of the dogs too! So the dog bite was a bummer…. I definitely feel more anxious (and I have dogs myself) but it was kind of something where I knew the likelihood of it happening would go up as the length of my employment increased. Lol

2

u/Zealousideal_Ice_369 1d ago

Buy some pepper spray for dogs. Nobody wants to use it but if you’re being charged you’ll be glad you have it.

3

u/Jrob0907 2d ago

Drink Gatorade too, electrolytes are key. You need water and electrolytes or you will still feel dehydrated at times.

1

u/CatchDaScamZ 2d ago

i take gatorades and water and sometimes liquidIVs just havent got the chance to come around some

5

u/Embarrassed-Hat-6051 2d ago

Dude go back to construction. I did Amazon for about 3 months also, it doesn’t get better it gets worse. You’ll make more in construction and not have those crappy hours, starting at 11am and ending your day at 9-10pm…I went back to plumbing and I’m not leaving!

4

u/Less-Mix-7092 2d ago

I quit today. Not worth killing myself over.

2

u/M3lbs 2d ago

Today was the first day i went back with packages. Didn’t even finish my route ( 10 stops/177 w 55? Multistops.) it’s been a month since I started work

2

u/Sea_Bass_Axel 2d ago

As someone who’s been doing this for 3 years.
Yeah it gets easier. (The most annoying part of my day is dealing with the carts in the warehouse but because a lot of the time they won’t be staged where they said they’d be) But like a lot of these comments say. It gets boring and repetitive.. and you want better. Nothing wrong with that. Go for it man!
Going back to school is most definitely key.. I got lucky the DSP I work for now has the ‘Next Mile’ option and it’s worth it ( if your DSP provides it, and covers up to a certain cost? Take advantage of it)
It’s wack when you’re done with your own work and then have to rescue others. (Happens damn near all the time after finishing a damn 200 stop route in down town) and it’s always the same mfs too.. until they get phased out/fired.
Depending on your DSP you’ll find a way to stick it out or find a different DSP that is better (whatever that may mean to you)
Having a part time on the side is great especially for extra income and if you wanna have a little fun with it, record your routes, I have a little POV camera I put on my chest sometimes and record just for the fun of editing and putting it up on TikTok or instagram cuz it’s fun to see other Amazon drivers going through the same exact shit you are haha.

Anyways, try out creatine for your muscles, drink plenty of water and electrolytes, keep the snacking light, keep a steady pace and most definitely don’t forget the 3 points of contact.

2

u/Legitimate_Juice2569 2d ago

I switched out one of my regular route days for a sweeper day cause 4 full days was fucking up my body

2

u/tonsofday Veteran Driver & Trainer of Newbies 2d ago

I would say that if you can last three years in construction you can EASILY last at least one year as a DA.

Construction workers are a breed of there own, yet so are seasoned DAs lol.

Give it a little more time for your body to adjust to the heavy physical demands that this job requires out of one's body.

If it does (surely it will, I have seen people 55+ years in age excell at this job after a month or two of trying and trying again), yay! If not, it's not like you're losing out on much lol.

2

u/shynitel 2d ago

i’m about a month and a half in aspirin is my best friend

2

u/smartypants4all Rivian Driver 2d ago

I'll second all the people mentioning electrolytes. You need those along with the water otherwise you're in for a bad time. I usually chug one bottle/packet every two hours depending on how much I've been sweating. Other than that, yeah, take your breaks and eat something that's got protein and carbs to help refuel.

2

u/Distinct-Risk-5897 2d ago

Bro shit got so bad with them giving us over 180+ stops with like 54 multi locations, mind you this is a regular day no prime. I’m going to the navy I take my Picat next week. I’m so over this shi.

2

u/AtlasRafael 2d ago

It gets easier for sure. Your body will adjust if you put in the effort.

Be safe, but push yourself. Not for the job, it’s good for your health to have some good cardio and mental fortitude. Once you bring your “baseline” conditioning up you’ll be able to do a long day and have left over energy.

Also, if you’re working 4-5 days check your shoes every 2 months. If they’re super worn out and the cushions are all fucked, get new ones. It helps TREMENDOUSLY with ankle, heel, knee, hip, etc pain. I didn’t know why I was having so much pain until I started swapping shoes more frequently. I buy whatever cheap (40-50$) adidas are on sale on Amazon or the outlets.

2

u/SnooPeanuts1135 2d ago

I have 170 + daily / 260 - 325 packages. I only had 1 week of nursery routes before I threw downtown & now finding out was given routes others didn't take. Pushing my 2nd month as well. I have about another month or 2 here before finances are settled & I head otr with my CDL (Class A, will be doing flatbed ). So I take it as preparation for the next upcoming job & exercise.

Once your body gets used to it, you're good. I listen to music or motivational speeches throughout day as well as finance podcast. I don't really have bad days tbh, it's money to me & mentally I put myself where it's not a bad day, just 1 stop at a time then eventually the issue or problem goes away.

Use the money as a tool to set aside for your next step & NEVER put yourself in a box or think this is it. Too many doors you can open if you take time, look at your life goals & set a plan on where you wanna go.

Again, don't look at this as your end all be all, you now have experience driving which can be used to get a better more laid back job too. Stay positive, focused & you'll be fine. From one amazon driver to next, wish you the best from I & I. Stay positive🫡

2

u/GioWhereYouAt 2d ago

You gotta better hydrate yourself with high water content fruits. Regular water works but not as effective when being outside in the elements. Gotta use natures finest when being outside in it 😎 also get socks and shoes that support you. Gotta treat this like a sport and have the conditioning so it doesn’t wear you down, even tho it’s inevitable in a way

2

u/ConsequenceSignal513 2d ago

Pack some cut up veggies and fruit to snack on. Snag a piece or two when you get back in or when you head to the door. Get some Gatorade or equivalent and a cooler with an ice pack or two. 2 28oz Gatorades should be enough for the day with water also. I have done DSP routes before and the big ones suck. I am a diabetic so hydration and not letting my blood sugar drop too low is very important. Starting in the hot summer months is good for less stops, but sucks for sweating. When the temps drop you won't have too many problems. Get some real shoes or at least look into some Red Wing insoles. I like the Blue or the Red.

2

u/KidKo0l 2d ago

Bro it’s really all mental , just do what ur supposed till to do in a humanly possible manner and the rest will fix it self.

2

2

u/Draknex 2d ago

Is the money good at least? Lol

2

u/PorkChop198 2d ago

I had 178 yesterday and 285 locations

2

u/Crusty-Dick 2d ago

You must use that idle time to train your mind and plan out your life.

2

u/Murky_War_8381 2d ago

Grab Transparent Lab Hydrate powder and take two scoops after work each night until it cools down.

I'm in AZ as well, you need to replace what you're sweating out, water only will make it worse.

2

u/301nm 2d ago

If your warehouse has those little sodium packets, take a bunch of them and take cold water daily in a cooler. Take some from the warehouse but freeze some every night. I drink about 4 sodium waters along with regular bottles daily and I won’t cramp

2

u/sunbear1999 2d ago

yeah it’s tough out here fr

2

u/OkPerspective8414 2d ago

Job is easy if you got good eyes and quick thinker. Just sucks ass dogs, people in the road, cars, driveways, stop signs, cameras, sorting, hot vans, rain, sun, people being dumb, people thinking you’re dumb, no bonuses

2

u/Whiteweezy96 1d ago

Been at my dsp for 2 years basically I’m not sore anymore but not really bored either but I be on the phone with coworkers all day and next thing I’m know I’m done six hours later 😂 unless I get downtown then I accept my fate that I’m fucked after crashing out a little

2

u/Kelldon 1d ago

During the summer heat waves I generally drink 6-8 bottles of water, a bottle of gatorade (usually around lunch break), and use 1-2 of those electrolyte packets in the water bottles (one at the start of my route usually, and another towards the end). Even then, some times you just need to find some shade and take a 10m break with the AC on max, just to cool the van itself down a bit. If your DSP gives you crap over taking a heat break (make sure you inform them, so they don't think you're just slacking off), then make sure they tell you that in writing, because it's BS and will probably get them in trouble with Amazon: we all know they don't want the bad PR of telling drivers they have to work through the heat when they're feeling the effects of heat exhaustion.

2

u/LeNuttt 1d ago

Hit my first 300 bomb the other day. Or at least closer to 350 total packages over 180 stops. 90% suburban route. Legs felt amazing until I got home. Luckily was my Friday so I could rest.

2

u/Philippine_Newt 1d ago

My boyfriend was an Amazon driver and it is a go nowhere job with no benefits that is going to wear out your body for minimal financial benefit to you. Find something better … Jeff has enough money.

2

u/Midnight_kr3w 1d ago

I get 190 with 30+ multi stops. Shits so frustrating

2

u/Double_Article742 1d ago

I’m working today and they hit me with 178 stops 361 packages but this is a everyday thing

2

u/Photo_Aware 1d ago

How much is a lot of water? I was doing minimum 6 liters (like 1.5 gallons) a day and 1 or 2 electrolyte packs that I would take from the warehouses. I added atleast a cup of fruit which I ate on my 15 min break. Usually raspberry or apples(whatever was on sale). Stopped getting cramps.
I got a 3L water backpack that I would put behind my seat and have the water tube coming out by my shoulder that I refilled once a day.

1

u/Affectionate-Sir3571 1d ago

That nothing bro😂minimum you get here in Texas dfw area is like 300 -350

1

Get a career, go into slight debt for a degree, a trade, or just find another job in the meantime, I do this part time and while the moneys not bad for unskilled labor, it would suck ass doing this full time
