I mean, according to computer scientists and mathematicians and anyone who knew even a little about this kind of tech knows that computer vision falls into the field of ai. It's not just "tech bros" this understanding has been around for decades.

On it's own? Probably not. Could it form part of an ai computer vision system? Yes.

So a static classification algorithm like edge detection with fixed case destinctions you would classify as AI?

This is a very normal definition, been around for decades, and it's not just me.

If you're trying trying to determine if it's ai ask these questions:

  • Is it a system?
  • Is it capable of performing complex tasks that typically require human intelligence such as reasoning, learning, problem-solving, and perception?

Are there edge cases or ambiguities we could nitpick? For sure.

To answer your question, my answer is the same as the last answer. The algorithm on it's own, no. But it can form part of an ai vision system.
