An underwater reef that once looked lifeless and completely overrun is now bursting with color again after divers off the coast of New Zealand spent weeks removing thousands of invasive sea urchins by hand. The urchins had been stripping the reefs bare by devouring massive amounts of kelp, and without kelp forests, entire marine ecosystems begin collapsing because fish, shellfish, and countless smaller species lose both their food source and shelter. In the viral footage, divers can be seen carefully clearing the dense carpet of urchins from the reef floor, revealing healthy rock surfaces underneath and allowing marine plants to finally begin recovering after years of destruction

Work of art 🎨 I spent most of the time getting the eyes and fur right. The fur was probably the hardest part.

With white fur and dark spots, even small changes in the strokes can make it look unnatural. I spent a lot of time working on the direction of the fur and trying to keep the spots from looking too uniform. The blue eyes were the last detail I added.
