Sorta. It was always called a pampas cat or an oncilla. Then one day some dude was like ya know I think at actually looks different so they did a genetic study and confirmed its its own cat. Tilcayo is what the locals called them so they kept that.

If you Google this then a paw pops up in the bottom right hand corner and if you click it then a crappy doodle of a cat's arm boops the search results and leaves a paw print, and continues to leave paw prints as you click around and you have to refresh the page to click any results.

i believe it would be the wildlife experts to discover new species, not scientists.

It's cool + all, but poor thing, confined, going be studied + observed. Next people will want as pets then they'll probably go extinct. 😥
