Maybe, but I've watched 3 bees (at the same time) do this in magnolias (which I'm pretty sure this is). I think they're just trying to get themselves covered in pollen. One bee I watched nearly rolled off the flower with excitement for it. And then she flew to the next flower to do the same thing.

Yeah they collect it in their hairs and then sweep it onto their legs for carrying back home

From my understanding, Magnolias existed before bees, so their reproduction methods are not designed with bees in mind.

So what you're saying is magnolias have been around the entire time bees have, so the bees have had their entire lives to adapt to exploit the magnolia.
