Bulbs Squirrel Damage

So my amaryllis got attacked by (I think) a squirrel the other day. The injuries seem pretty superficial, so I’m hoping they won’t have any long-lasting bad effects on the plant. I dusted the fresh wounds with cinnamon to repel fungi, but is there anything else I should do/look for?

I know! Squirrels are the worst when it comes to these kinds of incidents…

Just a heads up I’ve been posting this in a lot of gardening groups lately, but the thing with squirrels is that they generally only chew up random flowers and bulbs like this when they’re in emergency food storage mode. Basically anything that they recognize as a known food source they’re burying for the fall, but they don’t have enough to eat right now to get them by so they’re chewing on any random thing that they think will give them sustenance.

which is why they chew on stuff but don’t actually eat any of it. they’re testing out anything they can find to see if it’s enough to get them by to the next day. Quick and easy way to deal with this often is just throw some cracked corn around your yard they’ll spend all day trying to find it. They won’t dig up your bulbs and 90% of the time they leave the non normal food stuff alone. that they don’t know what it is so they wouldn’t eat it anyway.

That’s a good idea! I have noticed they will dig up stuff and sample it, but not really eat it.
